Bad take. English degrees are more valuable.

Technology is not going anywhere though. Or does he think we will become HR Giger biomechanical beings?

Yes please. Borg my shit up. But, make it horny. Seven of Nine, fuck that 10 out of 10
>>
>>106690859
To some degree that's how it used to be. Jobs were waiting, but it wasn't the insane gravy train it has been for the last 10-15 years. People got into CS because it was interesting to them. Also why game developers 20 years ago were considerably better.

if there's no "job waiting when you're done", then it should be illegal for colleges to sell you a degree in it without disclosing that and having you sign a waiver

I have a BA in English. I went back to school recently to get an AS in cyber security because I couldn't find gainful, full-time employment. Did I just go from one frying pan into another?
>>
>>106690996
Cyber security is still good.
The thing with softskill degrees is that you need to network and convince people that you're smart & easy to work with.
>>
>>106690859
>English degrees are more valuable.
lmao no, they're 100% worthless.
on hte other hand CS is only fine if you learn domain-specific knowledge, for me it was 3d rendering and physics, for some others it's embedded, eletronics, etc.
pure programming like webdev is absolutely worthless, even more than english or art degree, if you learn webshit at uni you should run, it's a waste of your time and money.
>>
>>106691135
Correct. Systems programming is always going to be in demand. But we don't need an ocean of halfass javascript programmers shitting up webpages now that we've got AI. If your resume has the phrase "full stack" in it, you're fucked and you should kys. If you're just a general systems programmer, you've got nothing to worry about.
>>
when you make an effort early on in a project to establish robust, minimal patterns that can be copied and adapted (which is what you and your colleagues will do anyway), you fall into this pit of success where your past investment pays off massively and good code proliferates. ai generated code ignores the established patterns and shits up your code base with inconsistent, worse versions of the existing patterns, the way of least resistance is no longer copy pasting, which depending on the quality of the existing code leads to a consistent, easy to reason about whole, but letting ai generate the sixth version of querying for user information that differs in yet another crucial detail. ai is great if your code base is already a bowl of spaghetti and everybody stopped caring a long time ago

There's literally plenty of CS jobs, the degree is only worthless because Congress refuses to let Americans take t hose jobs by allowing H1B to exist. A congressional repeal of h1b fixes the CS market overnight, no such thing can happen for English
>>

STEMfags are the worst thing to happen to higher ed. If you want a job right out of school go to a vocational program.

>ActivateWindows
>>
>>106691151
There are way more web dev jobs than systems programming jobs though. Probably like 100x more.
>>
>>106692238
Well that's kind of the point. Not for much longer. The more mechanical and repetitive the programming task, the more vulnerable it is to AI automation.

meanwhile in texas, there's 0% income tax.
>>
>>106690996
Unless it gets you a license or something, a degree is just a way to learn things in a controlled, structured way.
Just learn properly and you'll get a job anon. Also do some certifications and shit like that on the side. Cybersecurity is pretty much the only software field where they matter.
>>
>>106692238
The bigger and less complex a type of work is, the higher it will be on the automation chipping block.

Also, the difference in job ammounts only matters at the start. Once you are in, the number of entry level jobs will act as a filter and you will only be competing with the other few experienced dudes.

The way CS is taught these days, this is absolutely true. There is little market value in being able to create non-deterministic finite state machines by hand.

funny thing about this is that these fucking niggers like Thiel are very much transhumanists. They don't like trannies either because they believe they aren't going far enough. Why even bother having a body all together? Shit is really fucking stupid to me because what makes you is at least your human brain. If you just make machine copies your human brain those are just copies not the original. They might be YOU but not the original you. Entire thing is fucking moronic. We should at least keep our brains and just stick them into machine bodies.
>>

We still need urban planning for accommodating all the new houses we need for illegal immigrants and the high African birth rate plus environmental science to unfuck the climate, those are the only two degrees worth doing now.

kek

Everything runs on tech, jobs aplenty for those that can actually speak to other humans and master some basic skills in the field.

its funny you can tell which posters are students with really wishful thinking about the job market and their future.

>oh im not going to be unemployed because actually... heh... im better. my area of interest is EMBEDDED!
k dude, much much smaller job market and you still have 0yoe in a hypersaturated market. theres literally at least 100k other retards just like you with the same ideas in their head. 100k is probably a low estimate, theres 100k BS degrees awarded every signle year lol

but dont let that stop you, you were the kid that sat alone at lunch in highschool because you are totally smarter than everyone. you deserve this high IQ job because you definitely arent just another loser with an ego.

40% of all software engineering jobs are held by immigrants. you are not getting any work unless that changes. remember this post when you spend 2 years straight looking for a jbo that doesnt exist: you are a fucking idiot
>>

If you are too retarded to push yourself into a stampeding crowd running towards a cliff then that's on you. CS is still seeing huge amounts of applicants despite all the news about how there is basically no hiring. Those retards deserve decades of unemployment just for being morons.
>>
>>106690859
Based.
Imagine no more nepobaby fratty tech bros, just a smaller circle of more passionate, more autistic, classic geek type people doing what they do for the love of it.

These were the conditions of CS graduates in the 70s / 80s.

I'm a swe with 15 years of experience

skill issue, there is no such thing as an oversaturated market for good swe, I recruit them for my team now, from this post I can infere what kind of retard you are, no one like you, your teammates are talking shit in your back constantly because you're a deadweight.
>but dont let that stop you, you were the kid that sat alone at lunch in highschool because you are totally smarter than everyone
sorry you had shit highschool years my dood.

what kind of cesspool are you living in? the US? it's only mutts who talk about oversaturated market and issues to find a job when those are plentiful

the unemployed english lit major is a meme anyway, average lifetime earnings of english lit grads are about the same as those of math grads, and nobody ever jokes that a math degree is only good for helping you calculate change in your career as a barista.
>>
>>106696173

"lifetimes earnings stats" are skewed by the fact that boomers/gen Xers could get a degree in fuck all and still get hired at any corporation for any job at any point. From there on they obviously climbed the ladder and now occupy high paid managerial sinecures. This is not the reality on the ground for gen Z, quite the opposite. People need to stop pushing this lie. It's absolutely cutthroat now and you get weighed down with a mountain of debt to boot.

>that's interesting, isn't copy pasting bad? i want to learn, please explain dear anon
when you are asked to implement something, your first thought should be: "did we solve something similar already? if yes, how did we solve it, because i want to take advantage of all the knowledge and bugfixes that accumulated over the years instead of making all those mistakes again". after you found the piece of code that already solves something similar, you either call it directly, which usually doesn't work because why are you implementing the exact same thing again, or rather copy paste it into the place you need it, adapt it to your use case, then factor out the commonality and reuse it. if the code you copy paste is well structured, it's trivial to do this. if it's a bunch of last minute decision making intertwined oopfest full of dead code nobody bothered to remove, your colleagues will copy it as is, don't do the refactoring part because it's too hard and now you have duplicated code
