OK so
VPN over TOR
or TOR over VPN?
>>
>>106702842
Neither.
Only if ISP blocks TOR, then TOR over VPN.
>>
>>106702874
But then why is it recommended to use a VPN with TOR?
>>
>>106702874
you can use tor bridges to circumvent isp blocking the tor network
>>
>>106702799
they REALLY hate this combination kek
>>
>>106702893
then nobody sees your clearnet ip going into tor
>>
>>106702799
if your isp blocks you from using tor you need to jihad their office
>>
>>106702959
but what if the vpn is compromised?
>>
I don't know much about Tor.

But if the three-letter agencies control both Tor relays and relevant VPN servers, would there be any difference between using one or both?
>>
>>106702985
so what? all they see is you're going into tor
>>
I still don't actually believe in VPNs working. Like, I'm pretty sure if I googled something outrageous on purpose, like 'how to bomb a school,' I'd get on the FBI's watchlist despite using a VPN.
>>
>>106703008
True. TOR over VPN really is the way to go.

True, I used to do that on my high school's wifi so I could lurk 4chan in class
>>
>>106702893
it's not
the only people who say that are schizo's doing the kind of shit that makes you a target like pizza production and are worried about some 0-day deanonymization vulnerability
vpns make you stand out more, and there are better ways to achieve the same outcome, like connecting to tor on a public network
>>

>using tor with a vpn
what a fucking retard.
>>
>>106702991
they can control as many relays, exit nodes etc. as they want, they still can't see the traffic and still can't trace it to anybody. they're merely providing free bandwidth.

Lmao, it actually pisses the feds off.
>>
>>106703221
Well I do, i torrent using i2p, my traffic is encrypted for free, no need to pay for a vpn, problem is that I can't install torrents on the clearweb
>>106703232
>i2p is from the CIA
No it isn't, everyone acts as a node on i2p and that is good, making the network faster, secure and not depend on centralized slow honeypot nodes like tor, your traffic will be mixed with other nodes making it really hard for feds to do a deep packet inspection on you, the encryption of i2p itself is stronger than tor, join i2p anon and contribute to the network as well, be a node!

Wasn't saying it was, it likely does have feds on it hunting for criminals and even if they supposedly don't, what does I2P even have that isn't CP dumping communities? i imagine it's far more barren than TOR.

let me pull that one out of my ass
>>
>>106703396
>what does I2P even have that isn't CP dumping communities?
An official i2p forum, a site dedicated to downloading i2p torrents (safe from CP), a site that acts as a registrar, displaying eepsites for you to find that are free from CP.
>>
>>106702799
>I don't get how bridges work
>>
>>106703678
Hmmm, might give it a try then.
>>
Don't you have to somewhat know what you're doing to run a TOR node without potentially getting in trouble?
Is I2P the same? The "everyone is a node" thing sounds scary.
>>
>>106704905
No, you're talking about exit nodes, normally other Tor nodes are not being targeted. I don't know of any case in which I2P got targeted by law enforcement and it'd be way harder to prove since I2P doesn't connect to the clear net so the feds would need to be part of the I2P network and just as much aid criminals to claim you're doing something wrong.

>>
>>106704905
You're confusing exit nodes, on i2p you can't connect to the clear web, everyone on i2p is a middle node, even if you're routing illegal traffic to an asshole it's going to be encrypted by other nodes & you, nobody will ever know if that traffic was linked to you as well.

legit ones like mullvad have been raided and nothing happened as a result, because they don't log user ips to disk, and it gets purged from RAM after like 3 minutes. Their entire business is protecting users, they're not going to get caught with their pants down and lose everyone.

I use a VPN to dodge porn ID verification, torrent without DMCA notices, protect myself on public wi-fi, and to stop Meta and Google from tracking me across the Internet. Trying to guarantee immunity from investigation and prosecution of federal crimes is a much different question, and one that probably won't be answered by a $5/month subscription. VPN user != criminal, even though what the conversation is always inevitably dragged back to from both sides. This is why the nanny state wants to log everyone's text messages, because conversations around privacy immediately devolve into bomb threats and illegal porn.
>>
>>106708225
this
its for torrenting and making your ip non-doxxable without serious effort
>>
Vpn --> tor = ISP can't see tor traffic therefore a subpoena asking the ISP if you were on tor between 3:23 am to 3:51 wouldnt be able to be answered. They'd just see generic VPN packets
>>
Wouldn't VPN -> Tor -> VPN be the most secure method of browsing if you were doing something naughty and your threat model are like state sponsored actors / oppressive government regime / spies? You need to hide that you're using TOR from your local network, then you bounce your shit around tor, finally your exit node connects to another VPN so when you connect to your final destination you show up as a random vpn user and not a tor user. I've never done this because I'm not a criminal but now i'm curious.
>>
>>106708691
residential proxy is probably even better because they're botnetted, but the poor guy on the other end will get possibly prosecuted
>>
>>106702799
I honestly never understood this anti-VPN argument, its just a server you connect to holy shit, it depends on how the fuck you use it
ISP > VPN > Tor > VPN > Tor > VPN > Tor > VPN > I2P > Tor > VPN > I2P > VPS from fucking China > Tor again because why the fuck not > VPN > yet another VPS but you didn't pay for but h4xed into > socks5 proxy from a free site > VPN > Tor
>nooo actually that is bad because you are not supposed to do that please stick to the browser only!
>>
Yeah but you've gotta do it behind 4 or 5 proxies.

I've found myself increasingly interested in i2p simply because it seems like a fun playground for making sites without having to pay for a domain or worry about autistic retards hunting me down and trying to fuck with my life over internet shit.
< Also captcha funny.

is that an officer from the child-raping police, a officer from the raping police who is still a child, or a child who is raping a police officer?

Regardless of the security implications, Tor is slow enough without adding more nodes. Also if you are worried so much about being de-anonymized, you should probably think more about the environment you connect to Tor on, and maybe not use a browser with the largest attack surface known to mankind. Also none of you have to worry about using bridges or hiding Tor usage from your ISP, LMAO none of you need bridges and it's already fucking obvious by now that you're a Tor user.
