FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.
irm https://get.activated.win | iex

>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

>What version should I install?
>W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021
Binary identical to Enterprise except no MS Store or apps
Preinstalled with: Edge & Win32 system apps
10 years support on "IoT LTSC", 5 for "LTSC"
Manual version upgrades
IoT LTSC 2022: https://pastebin.com/rHcgvYS7

>W11 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2024
Same as W10 version except:
UI written in React Native aka JavaScript including: Start, Taskbar and Explorer that lags even on i9s
Use only if you fell for the 12th+ gen Intel meme and need the new CPU scheduler
Wait for IoT LTSC 2027 if you can

>Installing apps on LTSC
Use WinGet/Scoop or install MS Store in CMD with: wsreset -i

>W10/W11 Home/Pro/Education/Enterprise/Enterprise IoT
Preinstalled with: Edge, Win32 system apps, MS Store, OneDrive, Weather, Movies, Music, Candy Crush, etc
Auto-reinstalls apps on feature updates

all vidya works on LTSC right?
>>
>>106705412
There's a small amount of games that devs have made only run on 22H2 or higher (which is rare) but LTSC 2024 running on 24H2 you'd have no problems there. In the OP there's a pastebin tutorial on how to install an enablement pack on an LTSC 2021 install to up the feature pack from 21H2 to 22H2 making anything that arbitrarily didn't work now work fine.
>>
Want to install LTSC on my parent's old PC that they rarely use but they need some of these default Windows applications so do I go for normal non-IoT LTSC?
>>
>>106705450
If you need UWP programs then you can honestly just use normal Enterprise with the ESU licences activated instead, which gives the same EoL as normal LTSC now.

Man, gonna vent a bit here,I hate this obsessive update culture.
It all depends on when microsoft lets you 'downgrade' to Beta/RP
The other option is to do a fresh install but man the data on this PC is an unorganized mess.
Also, it was the OS was changed from W10 to W11 when I explicitly advised them not to do so willy-nilly.

ok guys i have a question (PART 2)
i switched from my normal windows 10 to windows 10 iot ltsc and everything works perfectly and its very nice smooth transition
however now, minutes after initially booting the pc for the day the screen will go black, and my gpu's fans will rev up to the maximum - i just have to manually turn off my pc to make it stop
on restart, the computer will work fine without doing that for the rest of the day
it has to be a driver error giving it some sort of power or heat failure reading, right? since this has never happened before and only started since i switched to w10 iot ltsc
my cpu is a 4790k and gpu is a 2070 super
i did the ddu driver removal to fresh install my latest nvidia driver and so on but it did not help
i also physically took out my gpu and made sure everything was cleaned and connected right
no help though, still black screens and gpu fans rev up to max speed like 10-30 minutes after turning on the pc for the day requiring a manual turn off and turn on before it functions properly
>>
>>106706389
I have a similar problem with my 2070s, although no black screen just revving ut to max when in a game menu / playing a game. Although might just be that my sensors are fucked, since i am on w11. Have you tried just reinstalling windows again?
>>
>>106706443

i have not tried reinstalling windows again since i already reinstalled my dumb programs but i guess that is the next step huh

I want to save my Firefox profile because I'm planning to reinstall Windows. Most of the important files (like prefs.json) can't be copied even if Fireshit is closed because I apparently don't have sufficient rights.

How the fuck can I just force copy those files? Don't want to make an account with those fucking whoresons.
>>
>>106707281
Have you tried using robocopy to force a copy to your backup? Remember to use flags like /E and /COPY:DAT for proper copying.
>>
>>106707799
thanks but I figured it out, it's been so long since I've used it I forgot about booting up in safe mode, that worked fine

Any way to make W11 explorer less laggy?
>>
>Avoid W11 at all costs unless you bought crippled hardware (Intel estrogen cores) that need the new CPU scheduler in W11.
>5X more demanding on hardware for less performance.

Is this really true? Does debloating not improve performance? I just bought new hardware and wanted to start fresh with the latest shiny os
>>
>>106708572
Enderman said once that for some reason, entering File Explorer in full screen mode (F11) and then going back for some reason speeds up things, I tried it but couldn't notice something substantial.
>>
>>106708958
it is not, OP is very autistic and imposes his bias without consulting the thread.

11 used to have performance issues prior to 24H2, but now is on par with 10 and in some areas it surpasses it. The idea of 11 feeling slower now comes mostly from its UI (Start Menu, Taskbar, File Explorer, etc), which feels a bit heavier due to its implementation, but when it comes to games, productivity, etc. then it's the same if not slightly better than 10.

Be wary of the 11 hater that will post outdated benchmarks

I'm not saying that you need overkill computer hardware like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the RTX 5090. You just need modern computer hardware and you especially need an SSD that you install Windows 11 on it.

Well there aren't a lot of recent news about the SSD thing, but there hasn't been a lot of new cases too, which probably means it's not as common as people said it was, but MS also hasn't addressed it fully, they just said it wasn't the update, but also didn't say what the actual cause of it was, so it's still a bit of a mystery

I've got a couple questions
>is it possible to fully disable or outright delete any trace of the "Recall" """feature""""?

>what is the best way to get the cleanest win11 pro install?
my job ties me to the shit versions but I want to gut it as much as possible.
>Is building the iso better than a debloat tool?
I was leaning towards the iso but then I thought of any future updates installing shit again
I found a debloater called talon, it has its own scripts (all public https://code.ravendevteam.org/talon/ ) as well as using scripts from winutil and others, seemed like the easiest most complete option and this one does include a script that prevents shit from installing again with updates (at least for the pro version)
what would you guys recommend?
>>
>>106722523
The Windows features program does indeed uninstall files from the feature you chose, like Windows Sanbox or virtualization tools, so Recall files get removed from the machine. but if you want to make sure and double check you can always use DISM

 dism /online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:"Recall"

if you want deep cleaning tool, just use WinUtil, but I'd recommend to first uninstall all the stuff you can (apps, startup processes, privacy toggles) manually before you decide to start tinkering with debloaters, sometimes people don't really need to go that far to feel comfortable

I would recommend against using more than 1 deblaoters because one is enough to make irreversible changes that in the case of something breaking, you won't be able to fix it, mixing 2 tools would make things even more complicated

if you want to use Talon then stick with it, WinUtil already has some options to disable apps that MS might want to install, but keep in mind that there are apps that Windows labels as "System apps" which are enforced even in LTSC editions, so they might be unavoidable like Windows Backup unless you brute force remove them (which to be honest it's often not necessary unless you're super picky)

Another less deep but more friendly options is ShutUp10, which has an option to prevent Windows to update apps. It's a popular tool but it's closed source if that gives you the ick

Piracy makes sense when you're poor, but if not, you should compensate a developer for their labour. And these days, you even have resellers and gray-area keystores to purchase from, so even the poor have no excuse.

How? Why? Don't game installers require Admin and potentially install yet another anti-cheat driver that runs in your kernel? I haven't used Windows for gaming in awhile. If you're serious about isolation, you'll probably need to switch to Linux and use the steam flatpak. Remember to tweak the permissions with flatseal.
>>
>>106722523
You can also use an unattended install file https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/

>>106723250
>anti-cheat driver that runs in your kernel?
This is that client-service. While I'm sure some competitive multiplayer games may require it, I haven't ran into any issues with the games I play.
>>
>>106723420
Ok well if the installer required admin, you'll still get infected and have your data stolen...
>>
>>106723885
The steamapp / store itself from Valve is much less likely to carry malware; the games installed thereafter do not require admin privileges. There have been steam games which distributed malware, either intentionally or due to a targeted developer, since these games run at the level of the current user, on an normal system they'd have read access to documents, and in a particular case, bitcoin wallets.

While Valve's software isn't going to outright plant trojans and steal bitcoins (one hopes), the steam client service they install does snoop all over your machine, looking at the DNS cache and scanning other running programs. That's by definition a sort of spyware even if not for a malicious purpose, I'd prefer to avoid it.

Just uninstall it again. Future feature updates will only be "enablement packs" so they will have a much lower impact on the current system configuration than in the past.

On the configuration side LTSC editions don't actually do much more than you could easily achieve from an offline image.
>>
>>106723983
>the games installed thereafter do not require admin privileges.
Huh? I'm pretty sure steam will do stuff like install M$ redistributables, directx compilers and other shit along with the actual application code (which will run some arbitrary code) and at least 2 out 3 of those will require admin because of where they're installed.

You can install steam games anywhere you want. It's quite common to move your "steam library" to a separate drive. In any case, this is what I do, it works. Giving my main user a "deny" to exec the steam.exe is just a trick to prevent myself from accidently starting a game under the wrong user, since all "steam" games will launch that first.

BitLocker, and only in its default configuration, "requires" a TPM. Again, it degrades gracefully if it's not present, and if you know what you're doing, you can set up BitLocker with a password or whatever.
In a way, I actually like the fact that Windows 11 24H2 kicks the hard requirement up to Nehalem: there are certain processor features that C2Ds didn't have that caused parts of the security system to simply shut down, because there were no fallbacks, emulations, or clever ways around it.

Wifi 7 requires Windows 11.
People don't seem to understand that there's a whole lot more to Wifi 7 than just a driver. The whole stack needed to be updated for the new security and radio configuration options, which aren't going to be backported to Windows 10, ever.
Your touchpad is far simpler: there's almost certainly a Windows 10 driver in circulation that's compatible with it. It's just that your machine is designed for 11, so the drivers on your manufacturer's website likely assume they're going to be installed on 11 - and fall apart when they're not.

Both winget and scoop are quite good for installing most windows programs. Writing a simple powershell script to reinstall most of your programs is a plausible thing to do now, and only takes a few minutes.

Tried W11 for a few months and it was pure pain. Going back to W10 has been fantastic, windows feels snappy again instead of the bloated mess that is W11. Even games had a significant performance increase.

Only problem has been resets when going into hibernate mode. Still figuring that out.

These threads probably got thousands of posts like this one in the past month but I'll make it anyway.
My PC already has an activated w10 pro. Do I only use the irm command to change the edition to enterprise if I want to get 3 more years of security updates? Do I need to do anything else afterwards (enable or disable some settings so that w10 works normally or having to disable some telemetry that got re-enabled or added with the change of editions)?
Older family member also has a w10 PC that he uses for things related to work mainly. I plan on doing the same thing for him, but his PC also has a lot of unused leftover files and software. What software is recommended for dealing with various junk files and leftover bloat? Also how do I properly set up windows defender for them so that it isn't intrusive and privacy-invading as anything microsoft-related because I may or may not completely trust their Common Sense.

I forget if you can switch versions with the irm command from regular consumer Winhoes. Someone else can chime in.

- Use Shutup10++ to disable telemetry and other nuisances (you can still use this in Winhoes 11, too).

- Use Glary Utilities to clean up their machine. Before that, you can clean up temporary files by going to Properties after right-clicking on your C drive in Computer, then click Disk Cleanup. It will display info first, and you can select what to delete.

- "Common sense" is uncommon and simply a bullshit argument used to fellate one's own ego. Don't worry about it. I think the better description of their "state of being" is simply "inexperienced".

when changing the windows edition from home to lets say pro or enterprise, do I need to back up something or is it just a simple change just like how when you activate windows or the ESUs?
>>
>>106743863
It's a simple change that just unlocks more parts of the OS as the edition is changed. It's been a thing since Vista but made better in 7 and beyond.
Just run MAS's edition switcher and choose the edition you want, and it'll get to work and the install will restart after a loading circle. Then you'll be back in your install and the edition will be changed, which'll then need to run MAS again to activate.

Changing editions shouldn't cause any problem. After switching to Enterprise just check if your Windows is activated with HWID and your ESU with TSforge

I pulled a 500GB HDD from an old DirecTV set-top box. It's a Seagate Pipeline HD 2. Upon plugging it into my desktop Windows doesn't recognize it, so I pulled up disk management and it's there but when I try to initialize it, I get an error that says
>The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
I also tried cleaning the drive in diskpart and it said it was cleaned pretty much instantly so I dunno if that actually did anything at all.

Any ideas?

"I/O Error" almost certainly means it's broken. Confirm by firing up Event Viewer, and checking the System log for errors involving disk, msahci, etc.
If it actually DOES turn out there's nothing wrong, perhaps dropping to a command line and trying DISKPART might give results: sometimes it's happy to do things that the GUI Disk Management console doesn't.

sorry for shizoposting but I can't help it:
bought a volume license key for Office 2016 Standard, got the ISO from the seller (100% genuine MS iso, at least all the hashes check out)
is there any chance because I'm using a volume license that if I use Outlook that some guy in the company or wherever my license is from can acces any of my stuff?

No, normal Office licensing doesn't attach stuff like that to VL.
Things get a bit more interesting with Office 365. Again, it doesn't actually follow the license itself, but there are ways of remote configuring it to ensure it's "part of the enterprise" it meant to belong to.

The drive is showing up now, I formatted it. Checked SMART status and there's a warning.

You've been told you already multiple times: the Win95 context menu (which was largely unchanged for 27 years) was designed for 640x480 screens. Not too many of them in circulation anymore.
