chromeos is linux and it has taken over Apple's once sacred education market

lies.

half the k-12 schools have ipads. only poor schools have chromebooks and they are jelly.

Using macOS is fine if you're not a geek. But to be fair, something like Arch isn't really that hard to set up with additional tools and some tutorials.

I like my M4 MBP (first Apple product) but my god that keyboard is shockingly bad. How can they have such a focus on premium hardware and think that's okay? I have also not found success trying to use it as a desktop replacement. They fight you every step of the way with peripherals. Obviously I am supposed to buy their overpiced 5K monitor and their keyboard and their "Magic Mouse."

I use a logitech G309 mouse, a keychron keyboard and a shitty external monitor with hdmi without any problems. what do you mean? macbook pro m4 pro
>>
>>106707562
Display scaling is fucked. When you use a mouse, you have to go change the settings for acceleration and scroll direction etc, and change it back when you want to use the touchpad again. I know there is paid third-party software for these things but that's fucked up. Everything is engineered to get you to buy the Apple peripherals and not think about it.

I envy you
almost every single piece of software I use is significantly worse on macos, even things as simple as a fucking music player
>>
>>106707941
That's odd, my situation is reversed.
I use both daily and almost everything is more painful on Windows. Using the system at all feels terrible, it's like they purposely made it without thinking about the end user experience.

Yeah that really grinds my gears, if you map the top row to function keys like a sane person, the volume control keys will be on the opposite side from the fn key

The hardware is amazing but good god I am not dealing well with macos
admittedly some of it is because I'm used to winblows, so switching to subtly different shortcuts etc is really annoying but there's so many tiny annoyances everywhere I could write a book about it
>>

Damn anon, you're about 5 years late. Most schools abandoned chromebooks years ago for base ipads. They're dirty cheap and they hold up way better.

Buy a mac, have to install an app to have an alt+tab that's not out of a windows 1.0 beta.

Want to launch an app with arguments from the dock, you can't.

I installed linux on my mac mini I haven't booted macOS since sonoma release.

But hey, I've heard there's window snapping now, maybe in 5 more years It'll be usable,

Wouldn't a chromebook, being a desktop, be a better option than an ipad?
I have an ipad and it's a toy, it's pretty much iphone with bigger display.

kek that's pretty good
>>
>>106709009
Afaik it was added on sequoia, maybe it's disabled by default, idk, I stopped just after installing sonoma... that was a buggy as fuck release for me.
>>
>>106708647
Never heard of foobar2k. Apple Music isn't enough?

IrfanView? Can't Preview do most of this?

Excel? Microsoft's Mac Business Unit generally does a good job.

Most of my software is free or for utilities, they cost a small amount.

I've never noticed a problem with APFS and file searching. APFS is a big improvement over HFS+.

For normies, the basic tiling provided by the macOS manager may be too much.
>>
>>106708524
Macos is terrible when it comes to file management
Sometimes folders will require you to scroll for 80 minutes to find the only icon inside while others are just a garbage pile of fucking icons
Inb4
>just use the clean up feature
it should do that automatically?

>Buy a mac, have to install an app to have an alt+tab that's not out of a windows 1.0 beta.
>Want to launch an app with arguments from the dock, you can't.

Normies don't know & don't care about alt-tab.

The macOS way is normies have no idea what command-line arguments are.

You mean the Finder can just drop shit into a folder. There's a "clean up" menu it to fix that.

The finder should get more work. See Siracusa's spatial finder rants.

You just realized that because launching macOS apps with arguments isn't important.

solved the issue by just dragging a bash script to the dock

its all about expectations.

i expect linux to not behave like windows and mac.

linux delivers
anything else is cope
i use linux because i dont want a mac or windows and it does exactly that

hows it working out? im looking to switch once sequoia goes EoL
each software update feels like the OS is getting slower and slower (8GB RAM on idle should not happen)

You can't drag bash scripts to the dock you need to first convert it to an app, it's easy to do but then you have two icons on the dock, the one for the script that starts the app and the one for the actual app.

The other way is modifying the app package itself but you need to do that every time the app updates.

On windows or most linux DEs it's just right click and change the arguments.
>>
>>106712831
Nah, I'm on the latest intel one, still supported so I can still update macOS but I only got it to do a native port of a phone app to iOS and I needed xCode... I decided to try using only macOS for 6 months to see if I can get used to it, it was a terrible experience.

For the intel ones you just need a T2 kernel and extract the wifi firmware from a macOS install (there's a script to do that in two clicks)

No, you can't, in this case is not that hard to just, ie. create an automator workflow that runs an script and save it as an application, then you can add that to the dock, but apple scripts can't be added to the dock, or at least it was this way up to sonoma.

And again that will cause two icons to be displayed when the app is open, one for the "script" one for the app, it's retarded that you can't just add arguments to apps in the dock.

Found an easy guide explaining the process.

https://cloudlearning365.com/?p=1607

On pretty much any other OS you can drag and drop, and then add arguments without having to end with multiple icons for the same app on the dock.

>>106714371
You can't add SCRIPTS to the dock
> Yes you can cause I've folders, images, pdfs and weblinks
.... SCRIPTS, how adding pdf files to the dock disproves this?

#!/bin/bash
echo "SCRIPTS!"

Save that as YoUcAn.sh and add it to the dock, post the results.

You depend on their frills on how the machine will look and perform though.

Tahoe or ''macos 26'' is absolute ass looking garbage. The rounded corners are so extreme that I'm almost willing to bet that in a years time mac windows are gonna be full-on circles. Their designers need to be fired - but first they need to fix this shit.
