Could the right Linux distro make the iBook G3 still usable or semi-usable today?
>>106705377No.
>>106705377I was going to say Debian but currently only ships the ppc64 architecture (so you need at least a G5 for installing it). The only viable OS is NetBSD in this case.
>>106705377Why would you use Linux on such a beautiful machine when you can install Leopard?.
>>106705448No wait, also FreeBSD works apparently (picrel)
I lusted after one of these soooo much when I was a little kid. The first computer with wifi IIRC.
>>106705377use the search engine
>>106705470Sure but what's the point, i guess is better than sticking with macos9 but you're still stuck with outdated software (afaik).
>>106705377Probably. What do you want to do?
>>106705499The dude with the website I linked the image from has lots of stuff running on it, including modern tools.https://sizeof.cat/post/ibook-g4-software/https://sizeof.cat/post/ibook-g4-development/

>>106705496Now, now... install that openbox.
>>106705475https://youtu.be/HFngngjy4fk?t=40https://youtu.be/1MR4R5LdrJwCould've sworn Phil jumped while a page loaded, but I guess not.>The first computer with wifi IIRCI'm sure someone will cite a long forgotten/overlooked non-Apple device, or something that never made it out of the lab. But I remember a friend at the time pondering getting one to play with the wireless, and he wasn't a Mac guy. Just Windows and early Linux nerd.
>>106705377Needs a frutiger aero theme
>>106705651But OP already is a fuitnigger airhead?
https://www.openbsd.org/macppc.htmlThen install IceWM or Xfce
>>106705474OpenBSD also works on those.
>>106705377Eehhn...depends on your use case i guess since you could in theory just use it for writing and stuff or as a terminal but nothing remotely modern will workwhich sucks because they're gorgeous machines
>>106705377These and the fold-out thinkpad keyboads always make me sad about how far we've fallen.
