And what are your most used ports on it?
>>
>>106706218
They don't use any because they don't buy intel processors or macbooks
>>
>>106706218
Docking? I'm blushing UwU.
>>

HP G4 120W
No complaints, it works great with my USB4 laptop (even the 2.5G NIC); the same cannot be said however for the Lenovo one I have, which disconnects all the fucking time or the monitors go into sleep mode and can't be woken up until I unplug it and plug it back in.
>>
>>106706238
You realize AMD supports Thunderbolt over USB 4.0? I use Thunderbolt on both my AMD laptop and desktop.
>>
>>106706218
These are the most overpriced devices in the consumer space
It's actually maddening.
>>
>>106706511
For real. These could solve so many problems (especially with Macs), but the cost is absurd.
>>
>>106706511
You can get them used extremely cheap. I purchased a Lenovo model for $25 cad.
>>
>>106706218
i got the one on the right if i'm spotting it correctly. it's expensive, but they just don't put enough ports on computers.
>>
>>106706534
>You can get them used extremely cheap.
This, it's nuts how cheap used docks are compared to new.
>>
>>106706533
I'm aware, but it still baffles me there are $300-400 examples when ultimately it's just a smattering of generic hubs, NICs and converters.
>>
>>106706238
What do they buy?
>>
>>106706320
Not that kind of docking.
>>
>>106706218
The one that my company gave me for free because they upgraded some

Anker 778, picrel. $100 on sale.
I use just about everything in the dock. 3 displays, 3 of the 4 usb ports on the back, both front usb-c and ethernet. I don't use the downstream thunderbolt port because I'm waiting for m.2 thunderbolt enclosures to drop in price.
It's got issues. with USB4 on my asus laptop 1/3 screens flickers once every 30 minutes or so. It gets worse when the dock gets hot so I have a fan pointed at it. Using only 2 of the 3 display outs at a time pretty much fixes the issue unless it's roasting in my office. I'm considering cracking the shell and jerry-rigging a heatsink.
Also my usb switch doesn't work on any of the rear usb ports so I have to have a usb a-c converter and plug it in up front. The other front port charges whatever phone or tablet I have lying around.

I’m planning to get a Plugable TB5 through work to complement my M4 Pro MBP. Has no displayport out but that’s OK I’m gonna use USB-C to HDMI anyway.

Now we know that standard is fucked in regards to bandwidth not having a normalized standard
>>
>>106706511
What about the Chinese ones?
>>
>>106709052
USB 4.0 is 4 PCIe lanes too.
>>
>>106708813

My dock gets really hot also. I wonder why? That's probably why they're expensive.

I don't need more
wish macbooks had a single usb-A port desu
>>
>>106709308
They're doing a lot in a relatively small package. At least my dock has to do some kind of magic fuckery to get dual displayport AND hdmi AND a downstream port all working together.
The heat doesn't really surprise me, the lack of active cooling does. It'll be better in the winter but I think next summer if I push it like this summer it's gonna fry itself.
>>
>>106709308
>My dock gets really hot also
I think every modern dock gets pretty warm, same as with nvme 4 / 5 drives. Shit's fast yo, and the heat has to go somewhere.
>>
>>106709339
Which dock is this

facts

I assume that the heavy majority of them are office purchases-- who buy new and have little need once they're deemed defunct.

Neither because my display already works like my dock. Usb hub, charging, ethernet, dp.
>>

icy box IB-DK4080AC
got it because it has some funky signal splitting for video output which let you have more external displays than macbooks supported by default.
Don't need this functionality on the new machine but it's still a pretty solid device - the usb ports are only 3.1 but it has 3 of them, one usb-c with 100W PD and ethernet
>>
>>106706218
I just got a tb4 ThinkPad dock for work. I use 2 DP and 1usb 3.
>>
>>106706218
Most of these thunderbolt docks are fucking dogshit garbage.
>THREE THUNDERBOLT 4 40Gb/s PORTS!!
>TRIPLE DISPLAYPORT 8K!!!
>EIGHT USB 10Gb/s PORTS!!!
>and uhh one 2.5Gbit ethernet because fuck you no 10Gbit for you

All of these companies can EAT SHIT.
>>
>>106717129
use case for 10 gbps ethernet?
