Need a new laptop.
>>106741666overpricedlook at the forums and see how much of a disaster QA and bios updates have been
>>106741669What laptops aren't overpriced and have good QA and bios updates?
>>106741666They aren't bad. Go for it.
Overpriced is right. Your "savings" by upgrading individual parts is overall more expensive than buying used laptops on ebay at the same interval.Find a laptop you like and get it on ebay for 40% off msrp. I like lenovos and asus ultrabooks personally but asus seems to be dropping the ball a lot lately. Avoid HP and Dell.
>>106741756Actually ignore this thread. Two framework threads opened 5 minutes apart, fuck you shill.
>>106741666most anons @ /g/ are on decade old hardware, thoughbeit. imo, framework has useful features and the company is positioned as a worthy alternative.
>>106741756Not OP but I tend to keep my computers for a long fucking time. Assuming they live. For instance, my last desktop had parts that were 12 years old before I built a new one. Given that, would the Framework make sense for me, especially since I just want a laptop for internet/Youtube?
>>106741691>>106741702Sudoku eyes
>>106741666It's much better than capple at least. Still not great though.
FW13 fan noise is pretty bad
>>106741862What cpu?
framework laptops are the laptop hobbyist equivalent of glamping youre paying more money for features 99% of the buyers will never use because they want the product for what it represents, not for what it actually isbecause if you want a framework laptop for what it actually is, buy any other business laptopyou buy a framework laptop because you want to present the idea that you can change your motherboard by buying a $500 proprietary part directly from the manufacturer, or buying a $300 cheeto dust covered part from ebay, without ever actually doing either of those thingsif you want to actually do those things you buy an old thinkpad because it costs less and the parks market is larger and the part swapping is pretty much the same in terms of technical difficulty, it just doesnt have oem first party support for doing so, but that doesnt matter for anyone whos going to do anything like take their laptop apart
>>106741909I do want to support right to repair and shit like that. Yes I could easily just cobble some franken thinkpad but sometimes it's nice to have something new.
>>106741936if you genuinely follow this you wouldnt ever buy a new product, if you care about right to repair and the idea of treating electronics like the complicated and impressive pieces of technology that they are, and that they should last a long time and that consumers should be able to modify, change and repair them over time, you wouldnt buy a new machineyes having new things is nice, if you want that then actually commit to thatdont larp that you give a fuck by buying a laptop which lets you pretend youre part of something you arent
>>106741950>Just don't buy new shit ever and definitely don't buy repairable shitThat's gonna work out great when the used parts market dries up because everyone is buying Macbooks with soldered on RAM.
>>106741786>especially since I just want a laptop for internet/Youtube?If it needs to be a Windows / Linux laptop, then get something with Intel Lunar Lake and an IPS screen. Lunar Lake is the best x86 CPU for battery life rn.>>106741862Update your bios ffs.
>>106742098>Lunar Lake is the best x86 CPU for battery life rn.They only put that CPU exclusively in premium laptop.
>>106741862if you using an older model try ptm7950they cheaped out on the paste for the older modelsfw16 has liquid metal and it gets worse thermals than with ptm
>>106742200>they cheaped out on the paste for the older modelsbuddy, liquid metal costs more than ptm
>>106742133you're misinformed
>>106742265liquid metal was only for fw16 and it wasn't applied correctly in the factory so thermal throttling is commonhttps://community.frame.work/t/guide-liquid-metal-removal-ptm-usage/59635
>>106741691>shitskin company>logo is an anusevery fucking time.
>>106741666or you can buy a mac.- comes with the latest hardware so you don't need to think about upgrading immediately- has a nice screen. framework hasn't shipped one of those yet.- maintains a good resale value and active resale market to offset the cost of upgrading later.
>>106742333>maintains a good resale value and active resale market to offset the cost of upgrading laterI sold my Framework 16 for more than I bought it for to some Korean.
>>106742367must've been a great laptop if you sold it so soon.
>>106742386I mean it was pretty cool. But I figured I wanted a 180 degree hinge so I can do pic related, so I have the Framework 13 now.>>106742333>macNo 180 degree hinge.
>>106742422Why would you do this? Why would ANYONE do this?
>>106742448I am always on the move (homeless). It's the best portable setup.
>>106742569Why wouldn't you just use the laptop keyboard? If it's an issue of height, why wouldn't you just put something under it to get it to the specified height?
It's the only laptop which is morally correct to purchase new. No other company even attempts what Framework did.If you are buying used (which you probably should be) then there are definitely better options.
>>106742330>sees a cog>thinks of an anusYou might be actually homosexual.
>>106742578You need to actually visualize what you are recommending so that you can understand why it's worse than the vertical stand.
>>106742671I just put the laptop down like a normal person.
>>106742738rip your neck
>>106742802I'm 6'2 and even that isn't tall enough to put tremendous strain on my neck looking at a laptop on a normal desk.
>>106741756>buying used laptops on ebaylmao poorfagjust buy a used Framework on eBay instead of some Chinkpad slop
framework is stupid and the concept of 'upgrading' a laptop (or any computer) is outdated and stupid
>>106741669Fpbp>>106741691Used business machines. Don't buy new consumerslop.
>>106742333And becomes a paperweight if a single capacitor is dead.
>>10674421>the concept of 'upgrading' a laptop (or any computer) is outdated and stupidIn your head, maybe
>>106741666They're good but if you're a poorfag better buy something like a used Thinkpad. Even something as old and cheap as a used T480 is still viable for ~$100.Framework is like those "hacker machines" that you pay a premium because they're (mostly) "open source" with detailed schematics available and you could, theoretically, easily design and build your own mods/parts/firmware for the machine. It's a much better deal than most of the other overpriced "hacker machines", and arguably quite close to most new laptops, but not as much to used business laptops.

>>106746742whatever you say, ConcasHD.
I might consider getting an F12 once an AMD board is released for it even if it would be an older generation APU on it, RDNA 2 is fine for my use case which basically boils down to can it play DOTA or not and even shitty Chromebooks can do nowadays.
>>106747114lol are you the guy who was trying to trannyjack f4mi with roop to force that guy out of retirement? or are you one of the people who really think that shit is real? one of your guys told her about your schizo plans, idk if she deleted those screenshots to protect him but it was all on her tele groupget some fucking help instead of harassing women online
>>106741666> Checked devil numbersI have one and like it, but i agree with everyone ITT that it's overpriced. You can get something better for a better price
>>106747156I wouldn't count on doing any gaming on the Framework 12, I'd consider at lest a 13 for that.

Shitty keyboard layout, no navigation key column.. Pass. People would literally pay an extra $40-$60 for a more customized keyboard for actual power users like the hp's, thinkpads with nipples, etc.
>>106747460I'm literally not even saying anything and you just keep rambling with this schizo shitclearly you're the one that has some problems
