Need a new laptop.
>>
>>106741666
overpriced
look at the forums and see how much of a disaster QA and bios updates have been

What laptops aren't overpriced and have good QA and bios updates?

They aren't bad. Go for it.
>>
Overpriced is right. Your "savings" by upgrading individual parts is overall more expensive than buying used laptops on ebay at the same interval.
Find a laptop you like and get it on ebay for 40% off msrp. I like lenovos and asus ultrabooks personally but asus seems to be dropping the ball a lot lately. Avoid HP and Dell.
>>
>>106741756
Actually ignore this thread. Two framework threads opened 5 minutes apart, fuck you shill.
>>
>>106741666
most anons @ /g/ are on decade old hardware, thoughbeit. imo, framework has useful features and the company is positioned as a worthy alternative.
>>
>>106741756
Not OP but I tend to keep my computers for a long fucking time. Assuming they live. For instance, my last desktop had parts that were 12 years old before I built a new one. Given that, would the Framework make sense for me, especially since I just want a laptop for internet/Youtube?

It's much better than capple at least. Still not great though.

What cpu?
>>
framework laptops are the laptop hobbyist equivalent of glamping

youre paying more money for features 99% of the buyers will never use because they want the product for what it represents, not for what it actually is
because if you want a framework laptop for what it actually is, buy any other business laptop
you buy a framework laptop because you want to present the idea that you can change your motherboard by buying a $500 proprietary part directly from the manufacturer, or buying a $300 cheeto dust covered part from ebay, without ever actually doing either of those things

if you want to actually do those things you buy an old thinkpad because it costs less and the parks market is larger and the part swapping is pretty much the same in terms of technical difficulty, it just doesnt have oem first party support for doing so, but that doesnt matter for anyone whos going to do anything like take their laptop apart
>>
>>106741909
I do want to support right to repair and shit like that. Yes I could easily just cobble some franken thinkpad but sometimes it's nice to have something new.
>>
>>106741936
if you genuinely follow this you wouldnt ever buy a new product, if you care about right to repair and the idea of treating electronics like the complicated and impressive pieces of technology that they are, and that they should last a long time and that consumers should be able to modify, change and repair them over time, you wouldnt buy a new machine

yes having new things is nice, if you want that then actually commit to that
dont larp that you give a fuck by buying a laptop which lets you pretend youre part of something you arent
>>
>>106741950
>Just don't buy new shit ever and definitely don't buy repairable shit
That's gonna work out great when the used parts market dries up because everyone is buying Macbooks with soldered on RAM.
>>
>>106741786
>especially since I just want a laptop for internet/Youtube?
If it needs to be a Windows / Linux laptop, then get something with Intel Lunar Lake and an IPS screen. Lunar Lake is the best x86 CPU for battery life rn.

>>106741862
Update your bios ffs.
>>
>>106742098
>Lunar Lake is the best x86 CPU for battery life rn.
They only put that CPU exclusively in premium laptop.
>>
>>106741862
if you using an older model try ptm7950
they cheaped out on the paste for the older models
fw16 has liquid metal and it gets worse thermals than with ptm
>>
>>106742200
>they cheaped out on the paste for the older models
buddy, liquid metal costs more than ptm
>>
>>106742133
you're misinformed
>>
>>106742265
liquid metal was only for fw16 and it wasn't applied correctly in the factory so thermal throttling is common

>>106741666
or you can buy a mac.
- comes with the latest hardware so you don't need to think about upgrading immediately
- has a nice screen. framework hasn't shipped one of those yet.
- maintains a good resale value and active resale market to offset the cost of upgrading later.

I sold my Framework 16 for more than I bought it for to some Korean.
>>
>>106742367
must've been a great laptop if you sold it so soon.

No 180 degree hinge.
>>
>>106742422
Why would you do this? Why would ANYONE do this?
>>
>>106742448
I am always on the move (homeless).
It's the best portable setup.
>>
>>106742569
Why wouldn't you just use the laptop keyboard? If it's an issue of height, why wouldn't you just put something under it to get it to the specified height?
>>
It's the only laptop which is morally correct to purchase new. No other company even attempts what Framework did.

If you are buying used (which you probably should be) then there are definitely better options.

lmao poorfag
just buy a used Framework on eBay instead of some Chinkpad slop

framework is stupid and the concept of 'upgrading' a laptop (or any computer) is outdated and stupid

In your head, maybe
>>
>>106741666
They're good but if you're a poorfag better buy something like a used Thinkpad. Even something as old and cheap as a used T480 is still viable for ~$100.
Framework is like those "hacker machines" that you pay a premium because they're (mostly) "open source" with detailed schematics available and you could, theoretically, easily design and build your own mods/parts/firmware for the machine. It's a much better deal than most of the other overpriced "hacker machines", and arguably quite close to most new laptops, but not as much to used business laptops.

>>
>>106741666
they are a pretty good option, but they are more expensive than other brands and repairability-wise you are mostly going to be stuck in their ecosystem
>>106742422
thinkpads remain the best used option imo

I might consider getting an F12 once an AMD board is released for it even if it would be an older generation APU on it, RDNA 2 is fine for my use case which basically boils down to can it play DOTA or not and even shitty Chromebooks can do nowadays.
>>
>>106747114
lol are you the guy who was trying to trannyjack f4mi with roop to force that guy out of retirement? or are you one of the people who really think that shit is real? one of your guys told her about your schizo plans, idk if she deleted those screenshots to protect him but it was all on her tele group
get some fucking help instead of harassing women online

I have one and like it, but i agree with everyone ITT that it's overpriced. You can get something better for a better price

I wouldn't count on doing any gaming on the Framework 12, I'd consider at lest a 13 for that.

Shitty keyboard layout, no navigation key column.. Pass. People would literally pay an extra $40-$60 for a more customized keyboard for actual power users like the hp's, thinkpads with nipples, etc.
