Just bought a Lenovo thinkpad T480 for $170.

Specs are Intel Core i5-8350U 1.70GHz 8GB RAM. Price includes the 500gb SSD and charger I got for it.

I intend to maybe run a mc server on it and to upgrade the ram eventually. Did I do good or no?

why would you buy a laptop for running a Minecraft server
there is better suited ser

Minecraft has stupidly high CPU requirement unless everyone agrees to travel together 24/7.

Well, ignoring the minecraft pipe dream, is it not complete shit?

just give your money away at this point

Come on... it's a thinkpad... it's gotta be worth it...
>>
>>106742228
not for 170 fucking dollarinos
I got a T430 for $35 recently and I don't even think it was a good deal
>>
>>106742204
Oracle has Always Free tier ARM service with 24 GB ram so hosting your own minecraft server is rather pointless.
Anyway, it's a good buy if you do go outside. That's about it.

>for some reason spent $170 on a thing with a display
You would have gotten infinitely more mileage out of three used K8 M720 tinies for $120 + s/h
>>
if it's in mint condition, and battery is good, it's a fair price
>>
>>106742285
Battery is good, things been stress tested and verified. Only minor scuffs on casing.
>>
>>106742276
This.

People use laptops for dedicated servers usually because that's what they have lying around.
Otherwise, people rent (cloud/internet/virtual) space/servers or have run their own physical servers, which can range from some Raspberry Pi to... idk, some fag probably even has 512-core server racks at home.
I use an i5 myself, a few generations older than yours, but I've never played Minecraft.
>>
>>106742242
Fuck I paid $200 for my T430 just a couple of years ago.
>>
>>106742139
They'd ask like 500 usd dollars for that laptop in the shithole of a country where I live.
>>
>>106742302
*Also, it's a fine price, OP, no mistakes there.

They don't even use modern thinkpad.
They use 19 years old Thinkpad T61p and 11 years old HP Zbook.

Truly shows the durability and utility of the thinkpad. Bravo IBM, Bravo Lenovo.

Cost of laptop + shipping is $110 Trump dollars. Fair?
>>
>>106742139
It's pretty mid if you don't need the portability. I bought a T440s for about $100 a year or so ago and even though it's a sturdy and serviceable machine that can handle office work and basic computing, I just never have a reason to use it over my desktop unless i'm traveling or presenting.
>I intend to maybe run a mc server on it and to upgrade the ram eventually.
If I wanted to run a server I'd just get a 100$ intel N100 mini PC, but yeah otherwise laptop's are decent for running servers as they're power efficient. getting more RAM is a meme unless it's bottlenecking you, same for SSD storage, don't get more unless you need it.
I'm thinking of buying a $250 10gen I7 system with 64GB's of ram and I'm also looking at a 13th gen I5 with 16GB's of DDR5 on a B760 mbo for 300$. You can get significantly more powerfull hardware in your price-range if you look into desktops.
>>
>>106742477
so freight forwarding + international shipping was $60? thats fair
>>
>>106742245
Yeah, but you have to make an account and gib them your payment info.
>>
>>106742563
I live in freedom land ham burger football school shootings and the SSD + Charger is the $60 (The thing came without them). The used laptop itself is $110 with the shipping. Shipping only a few states away.
>>
>>106742139
you overpaid

>>106742285
No it isn't
>>
>>106742139
>>106742242
>170
>35
Where do you guys buy these things? There are expensive in Amazon
>>
I remember when those cost around 60 (although you'd have to buy them from boomers who would just send them by mail and you had to gamble on its actual condition)
>>
>>106742482
i use my T440s probably 20x more than my powerful desktop because I primarily just fuck on the internet from bed. desktops are not comfy and you can't use them in bed
>>
>>106742305
Consider ebay, I got a t14s for $170 + $200 for shipping and taxes, still worth it.
