>canonical rewriting core utils in rust probably just to change the license to mit or bsd
gnu/bros are we losing?
>>
GNU coreutils are themselves GPL rewrites of BSD coreutils

>computer was invented almost a century ago

I hate this timeline
>>
>>106743452
There is nothing wrong with that, but Canonical can bait and switch anytime. Do you trust that their coreutils will be free software forever?
>>
>>106743452
canonical didn't rewrite anything themselves, and the license change doesn't make a difference to them.
maybe pick a "sport" you understand!
>>
And let's not forget that Canonical has never been about your freedom, but instead pragmatism and the sake of convenience

Anything worthwhile is text only. There's a reason our best attempt at human-like AI is a language model. There's a reason all programming is text-based.

Canonical putting amazon spyware + ads in the OS already disqualified them. Snap with a proprietary back end sealed the deal. Avoid this anti user company.

This is the critical point.

>canonical changes tools and they generate dependency of it.
>time passes
>people forget
>suddenly, a license change imposes those tools as closed source and proprietary (spyware, bloatware).

I see a future where Canonical does the same thing Google did with Android: they start a “good faith” initiative to “embrace open source”, they generate user dependency, and now with that power, they want to get rid of the feature to install apps independently.

IBM did the same shit with Red Hat.

to trust these companies is to give them our individual autonomy.

nta, yes we should promote the use of AGPL v3+NIGGER+KEK(KILL EVERY KIKE) license.

lmao

If computers were still text only the world would be a much better place.

canonical is amazon's puppet and they are working in the best interest of amazon. but it benefits them because amazon supports them financially
>>
>>106745165
amazon didn't rewrite anything themselves.
maybe cosplay for an "anime" you understand!

uutils is neither a canonical project, nor an amazon project.
maybe try your hallucinations on some kindergartners and see if that works!

who's behind it?

Linux has to mature away and split away from gnu and fsf.
>>
GNU 4 ever
>>
>>106746009
it's a typical open-source project a then random mozilla employee started in his spare time many years ago.
who's "behind it" is the community of its contributors. i myself have a couple of commits there, and no one is "behind me". it was just fun making some use-case run faster. i would however happily take money from whoever is offering, but i'm aint losing sleep waiting for them offers ;)

>to change the license to mit or bsd
This is what makes muh Rust rewrites extremely based. This is the only reason why I support the initiatives. Other than that, the obsession with rewriting in Rust is a fucking meme.
>>
>>106746026
This. The FSF mental illnessess have done enough damage for Linux.

i was talking about uutils. different situation. different era (years after rust v1.0). different employee. and uutils was never funded in any way (no reason for it to be). the rust influence within mozilla was of course a factor, as the employee was surrounded by rust developers. he is also a long time Debian developer, since before rust even existed, so that kind of (non-employment) "connection", if you may, was always there.
