I have finally decided to ditch windows for ubuntu. Did I make a mistake?
>>106743791Yes but mostly about your chosen gender.
It wouldn't be my first choice of distro, but it's good enough.Don't forget you're not tied down to any one distro as long as you partition your home and root separate. Or remember to back up your home before reformatting.
>>106743791Even the nips know Linux is only good for servers. Why don't you?
>>106743796i've never saved files/documents when changing an OSjust get new files and documents
>>106743791I use Ubuntu as my host, but I mainly use Pop!_OS in a guest as my daily driver. It is also based on Ubuntu. The new Cosmic Beta is out, but I'm going to wait until the final 24.04 is out before upgrading.
>>106743791>ubuntu mistake ?Yes, you're retarded.Use kubuntu instead.
I implore you to reconsiderUbuntu is partially corpo-owned and can rugpull you at any time
>>106743791Ubuntu is usually a solid choice. Is everything working so far or did you encounter any problems?
>>106743897I read something about this >>106743879, actually
https://github.com/polhdez/ubuntu-debullshitif you run this script after the installation then it should be usable
>>106743791Yes you did. I tried a long time to love Ubuntu but ultimately got fucked in the ass. I tried playing Monster Hunter Rise with my friend, but Ubuntu uses snaps and they are TOO secure. Like, they are fucking secure. So secure that I couldn't connect to lobbies in the game. So if you don't game Ubuntu is amazing but if you game, don't use it. Snaps = Can't play with friends>lol it wasnt snaps thoughIt was, it worked fine on flatpak.
>>106743988Pop!_OS doesn't have this problem. It only uses .debs and flatpak.
>>106743791welcome to the cult
>>106743791if you have legit windows you likely want some program that ubuntu has but it wont take long to return windows
>>106743791Yes. It's the worst choice you can make when dipping your toes in the linux world.
>>106743791Debian is Ubuntu without the corporate BS. If you have very new hardware, though most likely neither Ubuntu nor Debian are going to run well, in that case fedora may be your best shot. Arch Linux don't even think about it if you are ditching Windows.
>>106743791Come to Fedora instead, Ubuntu is nagware just like Windows with Ubuntu One Account and Ubuntu Pro
>>106743798server usage is above desktopif OS is good for servers then for desktop-purpose it's even more so
>>106743791Photo editing or music production? You fucked up.Software development? Everything is good.Office products and web browsing? You're basically fine.Gaming? Better than it used to be, especially for older games where Win11 lacks compatibility, but Linux might let you down on multi monitor setups.
>>106746559>music production>fucked uphuh?
>>106743791Yes, Ubuntu is shit now. Microsoft have their shit covered jeet hands all over Canonical now.Should have gone for Mint.
>>106746697But mint is ubuntu with older packages.
I don't care what you pick just don't use gnome. 90% of new linux users drop it because of gnome. There is a reason why every popular linux project that gets high adoption rate from other OS users have abandoned gnome. Again, I don't care what you use just don't use gnome it is GARBAGE
>>106743791How should we call her? Ubu-chan?Bun-chan?
>>106746463>If you have very new hardwareIs this really a problem for linux?
>>106747418Not on something like Fedora or a rolling release like Arch. Using something like Debian or a distro with a slower release cycle is risky with bleeding edge
Ubuntu is fine. Once I started using Xubuntu LTS my linux experience became very smooth.
>>106743791Yes, you’ll find nothing but issues including -- your mice won’t work, goodluck with bluetooth, the power not starting (also flipping your breaker! Possibly damaging all power to your house), windows bootloader will no longer work (thankfully, you can just run windows again for whatever shitty program gets installed to be overwritten). Your car will no longer function correctly due to the U radiation. These are only a few of the issues many people experience. You should switch back to Windows
>>106743876>KDE
>>106743791Ubuntu in 2025 is crazy.
>>106743791Idk depends on what you want. Ubuntu can be really good if you just want something that can play non-competative games and not stream or something.
>>106743791using debian based distros is a nono.If you want a beginner friendly linux experience(arch based) go with cachyos, endeavouros or garudaos
>>106746540That's like saying if a truck is good for transporting freight it's even more so for general transportation
>>106750156>go with a bunch of distros no one has ever heard ofWhy are debian based distros bad for beginners? Debian itself isn't very beginner friendly, but various Ubuntu derivatives definitely are. Ubuntu itself being a derivative of debian.
>>106743791>look it up >it's just usual jap TTS shitI'm so disappointed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH5Awy6QPNU
>>106743988Did you use the Steam snap? It's notoriously shit.
>>106746678is that motherfucking sunvoxbased
>>106750741Nothing, it's just a bunch of schizos on /g/. Even Debian is perfectly fine for beginners if they're interested in using Linux for servers.
