Building a SPH PC is probably the most satisfying thing ever

It's fucking hard and annoying when you build it but when it all comes together it's incredibly

A tiny box like that but running a full sized graphics card like the 5080 is NICE.

A small BEAST that packs POWER.

The pricing is annoying though, everythings at a massive premium. Unlike M-ATX, which is super cheap comparetively.
>>
>pay out the ass for microATX and SF power supply
>case can't fit most GPU's
>shitty case manufacturers will probably short your mobo with bad screw placement
>pay out the ass for a PCIE riser
>get worse thermal performance anyway for your troubles
>all to play the same games as everyone else
I will never understand the tiny PC autists. Why would you unironically pay more for a worse build?

Portability is neat. So is desk space.
>>
>>106744924
purely aesthetics bro, it looks nice
even MFF cases have come a long way, not as small but definitely small that it fits a full sized psu + full sized card
>>
What's more important? How a computer looks? Or how a computer sounds? You don't look at your case all the time, but you're always listening to it. A zero moving parts machine is more luxurious.

I dont give a fuck about SPH but I do have an penchant for a totally passively cooled PC.
with a heatsink large enough there shouldn't need to be a single moving part and that is really neat as fuck to me.
>>
>>106744923
I own a house though, I can have both my computer and amplifier on a coffee table next to my desk and still not be troubled for space.
>>
>>106744939
modern case fans have great thermal performance with almost no noise. mineral oil or passive radiation cases are a meme for autists like you
>>
>>106744940
the better part about house ownership is you can make holes in the walls and then the computer isn't in the same room
no sound, no heat
>>
>>106744924
>pay out the ass for microATX and SF power supply
not really
>case can't fit most GPU's
i have a 3 slot 4090
>pay out the ass for a PCIE riser
it came with my case (which wasn't very expensive)
>get worse thermal performance anyway for your troubles
not really and "worse" is irrelevant when a 4090 and 9800x3d have 0 issues in the case.
>>
>>106744926
>So is desk space
>have the money to build a super expensive premium computer
>somehow doesn't have an adult human sized desk
Something isn't adding up.
>>
>>106744923
lol a 4 thousand dollar GPU so now you can play what? indie metroidvanias that run at 240p?
>>
>>106744941
>are a meme for autists like you
yeah I know, but fans still make noise, I have a fractal torrent with the best air flow money can buy and the 4090 fans still spin up to 100 in some games.
but my dream would be to have 50kg of copper with massive fin surface area as a silent sculpture in the corner of my room, with a 5090 and 9950x3d hidden inside.
I've done the napkin math before and it's all very possible and achievable just prohibitively expensive.
>>
>>106744946
Make the desk an entire copper hint sink.
>>
>>106744923
I get what the bit is in this thread. Anyways, I'm looking to upgrade my PC since it's been a few years and wondering if any anons had good recommendations on cooling solutions. I use some Notcua heatsink they don't make anymore.
>>
>>106744947
could do, the volume required for ~750w of cooling is about the size of a bar fridge (couple of square feet of fins) so if you got creative you might be able to do it.
if I was stupid rich I'd definitely do it.
>>
>>106744942
My home has air conditioning and I use speakers, I couldn't give a shit less how much noise my computer makes.
>>
>>106744936
>most sff cases can fit both
Wrong because it's not SFF unless it's mITX

>>
I like small things, but I hate small PC's. They're a total pain to work with, they get hot, and have shorter upgrade paths. A big full-size ATX PC is the best because you have so much room to work with, it's cooler, and you can buy big GPU's without having to take measurements and worrying about limited space and blocking ports
>>
>>106744952
Indeed, so why mention heat as though it's some insurmountable problem or even something that matters at all to anyone outside of a favela?

Pic-rel was my first case.
After two cross-country moves I was over it.
Being able to toss my PC in a backpack or any checked airline bag or shipping box feels good.
Ignoring all the stupid fictional shit you are imagining [SFFPC build guides/YouTube content should really, really do a better job of noting that retards are not welcome builders here], performance is top-notch and the extra $ has never been a concern for those of us with jobs.
>>106744925
That isn't a fair comparison when SFFPC benefits for the extra $ are tangible, visible things.
HiFi audiophile niggers will spend more $ on any given component in their stack than a wholeass top-end SFFPC will cost for no discernable benefit.

Main thing from having my SFF was wondering why more cases don't vertically mount the GPU, like even in ATX it seems more space efficient and puts less strain on the PCIe slot.
>>
>>106744972
some full tower cases did experiment with this. They ran into airflow issues, since the fans were jammed up against a panel window. Obviously you could get around this with an open panel e.g. some of these small cases, but it's not ideal for the rest of the components.
>>
>>106744923
It is far more satisfying to rackmount things.
>Better cable management
>Keep network and power equipment in the same place as well
>One direction for airflow, so you're not sucking up dust from a carpet
>Nothing on your desk
>You get to laugh at people getting GPU support brackets, because your GPU is vertical
