If I want to get a 9800X3D for GAYMEN is their any reason to get better than a B650?
>>106745981But those are exactly the same timings.XMP/EXPO is very dumb because it covers only primary timings, voltage and frequency all the rest is set by the motherboard.
>>106745981You don’t know what XMP does, and higher end EXPO kits generally have tighter timings.XMP only sets the advertised speed and primary timings.Board manufacturers tune the other auto timings.

do NVME drives need a heatsink if i'm just doing gaming and maybe light 3D modelling?
>>106746063Gen 3 do not ever need a heatsink, Gen 4 or 5 might
>>106746063PCI-E 5.0 drives are very hot in general. Those will throttle if ran without heatsinks. As always check reviews because things may vary.I had no need for heatsinks for Gen4 or Gen3.
>>106746085>>106746093it's a gen3 slot so i guess i'm good even if i get a newer drive, thanks
>>106746063I've logged increased errors and even had a dead drive from not using heatsinks on gen4 drives
>>106745852I'm planning on upgrading my CPU sometime soon. I live near a Micro Center - which bundle/CPU would be the best to pair with my 9070 XT? I play at 1440p @ 144hz. Don't play any competitive games outside of LoL, but would like to be set for the next few years. From what I'm reading online, the 7600x3d sounds good enough for my use case.9800x3d bundle: $629.997800x3d bundle: $549.997600x3d bundle: $429.99My current CPU is an i5-10400f. I don't have a budget, but I don't want to overspend or waste money on overkill specs. I only use my PC for gaming and light web browsing, so I'm not worried about productivity performance. Would jumping from a 7600x3d to 9800x3d show any notable/meaningful performance boost in games @ 1440p? I guess it really depends on the title?
>>106745981They're the same. Every secondary (not tRFC or tRC) and tertiary timing follows JEDEC specification on either profile types.
>>106746136Only lol? 7600x3d will do fine then
>>106746063PCIe 3.0 drives probably not. 4.0 drives may get pretty toasty, they don't need active cooling or something but I wouldn't run them completely bare. At least use the heatsinks your mobo probably comes with, they should be fine with that given that you're not going to push them particularly hard.
>>106746136You have a pretty fast system, I wouldn't really buy a 6C CPU. Either 7800X3D or 9800X3D should be fine though, depending on how much you're willing to spend.

>>106746291Still better than average Zen5% uplift.
>>106746313100% of the gains comes from clockspeeds where the 7800x3d throttled because of strict pbo limits. This also means 9800x3d has to chug a lot more power just to keep that 10% performance lead

>>106746333I didn't know thatwas there ANY improvement in the 9800x3d then? surely the ipc alone should give it a 10% or so uplift
>>106746422It's faster in crunching numbers outside of games. Like being 30% faster in cinebench r23 over the 7800x3d. Zen5 is just a server first architecture with no improvements catered towards gaming unlike zen4 and the upcoming zen6.

You don't need an XL case for those parts.Components look fine; you can drop down to a B850 or B650 motherboard if you don't have specific needs for an X870 board.Get the Peerless Assassin V3 or the Phantom Spirit.Peerless Assassin V3 has newer fans that push the same amount of air @ lower noise levels.Phantom Spirit has an extra heat pipe; either will cool the 9800X3D just fine.

>>106747380there is absolutely no reason to buy RDNA 3 anymore. it's like buying a GTX card when RTX exists, you'll be locked out of future innovation and tech. there's also absolutely no reason to use Linux when Win11 is fine and like a million tools exists to debloat it to your liking, among other things possible, without having to sacrifice compatibility and/or performance for 90% of games and applications.

I know it's PC building, but maybe someone here knows kung laptops-fu.My family asked me to pick out a laptop for a student with a budget of ~1100 EUR (~$1400 USD).Is there anything particular that I should look for or be wary of when searching?I assume that, since 1k euros is the ceiling, he will be playing games on it.

>>106748086>$2Hahaha, cant beat it!
>>106747966Honestly these days €1000 isn't going to get you a proper "gaming laptop". You'd be looking at a 4050/5050 on the GPU side, maybe a 4060 tops if you catch a sale. Of course that's still plenty for light gaming like Esports just don't expect to max out UE5lop.For specific models I can't really help you. There's too many and the stuff that actually makes a laptop good or not isn't on the spec sheet so you'll have to find reviews of the model(s) in question. I'd say to start by going to your country's main electronics retailer and filtering by price+specs to narrow it down. Pick five models that look good on paper and read a review for each. Pay attention to build quality, cooling, and ergonomics. Especially cooling because that basically determines performance in mobile; if the GPU is locked at 40W it won't perform as well as the benchmarks suggest.

ETA of the next break through in the CPU/GPU techs? Just 10 years ago i7-6700K was released. It was the big dog back then. Nowadays, a cheap ryzen from 2-3 years ago and several generations behind can BTFO it with ease, let alone the top dogs. This still amaze me.

Any suggestions for ultrawide monitors with good color spaces and high refresh rates (144hz would be fine)? I use my desktop for photo editing and gaming pretty much exclusively and I'd like to upgrade from this 75hz LG one with just okay color space
do NVME drives handle partitioning the same way as a normal SSD or HDD? if one gets corrupted the other should be alright?

I have seen that one recommended quite often but that much larger size seems like i'm going to need new desk(s) too or somehow rethink my setup

lately I’ve been having an issue with my motherboard. As soon as I power on the PC, the red "CPU" LED stays on. I tried a few things including a bios update and swapping cables, but it’s still on no matter what. The PC runs totally fine otherwise, the performance is exactly the same as before and I had gaming sessions with no issue, no overheating. It didn't have that issue before CPU is a 9600X, mobo is Gigabyte Aorus B650 AX V2any ideas?
>>106749762Reset the CMOS by unplugging the PSU and taking the battery in and out
>>106749751yeah, i know. It just never lasts and i dont bother. My desk at least is usually a bit more tidy
>>106745852I need to replace my old laptop I used for college, and I'm looking at building a pc, mostly for gaming (FFXIV). I have a friend who can help me fit it all or double check the parts I want. But how the hell do I actually decide what parts are good or what I need? Just clicking on pcpartpicker all day isn't helping. I'd appreciate recommendations or suggestions I guess
Is this a good 5070 Ti model? Pretty good price, I was waiting on the Gaming Trio but I might just jump the gun if this one's decent.

>>106750053Hmm, could reseat the CPU but thats a pain in the ass. Do you get any error messages when you go into the BIOS?
>>106749856My 7900xtx was 750 euros and I feel like it's better than that but it's not a bad card by any means
>>106750092yeah I'd rather not reseat the CPU if possible no error message on the bios. I had updated it earlier. And now I just entered BIOS to enable expo profile, and it told me that the bios had been successfully reset

>>106750138That bench is from 9 months ago dude. 9070xt became faster than the 5070ti through driver updates and the 7900xtx is even faster than the 9070xt. Even amd won't compare 7900xtx vs 9070xt in their own benchmarks its always against the 7900gre.

>>106750589MSI are the least shitty and overpriced with the second-lest shit bios drivers. ASUS are the "premium" choice, but i use that term very loosely.Flashing bios remains a mystical artform for MSI mobos, i used 4 different flash drives before 1 worked, all were 32gigs, and the one that came with my motherboard wasn't the one that worked (a dodgy Sandisc one with overheating problems proved to be the winner, VERY stressful flashing).

You can do better than 1440p/144hz with a 70ti, framegen there's basically 0 downside in use after a certain point. Can easily 240+ even at 1440p.
