Why not egpu?
>>
>>106746577
too much hassle. i dont want to play newer videogames enough to justify lugging another piece of crap around. its enough to play old games/non demanding games. cyberpunk 2077 is pretty cool but ultimately its a fps. i already played enough the witcher
>>

Because they are the size of a 2nd laptop.
Just get a desktop
>>
its expansive and doesn't offer much if you don't have the gpu already
>>
>>106746577
>Buy Mini PC that costs twice as much as a Desktop PC with the same power
>Put it on your desk where it wastes space
>Notice that integrated graphics is shit
>Buy a GPU dock that costs as much as a whole GPU
>Buy a GPU on top
>Have a loud ass GPU sitting directly on your desk
Somehow this makes sense to the numale
>>
>>106746577
>no support on GPU, stresses board at PCIE connector
>unused bracket on gpu which was intended for support
>cable coming out of the front of the minipc for something that will always be connected
why would you want this situation? it you need a dgpu build a sff computer at least.
>>
What are the downsides between a regular gpu and an egpu with thunderbolt4 vs thunderbolt5 vs pci?
>>
Limited bandwidth can hurt performance and it's more expensive.
>>
>>106747738
the egpu using thunderbolt is about 10% slower. it's a retarded move to plan to buy an egpu. an egpu should only exist when you fuck up and realize you need a dgpu later.
>>
>>106746577
The question is, why egpu in the first place? It's not even going to be cheaper, while it performs worse and is more messy as well as less reliable. Rather than paying for a mini-PC, just build an actual PC and put the GPU in there.
>>
>>106746577
Why not just make box more bigger?
>>
SFF is the only rational option, the bios on these mini pcs are very basic and shit, they're OK for when you're travelling I guess, with an sff build you can get a good motherboard and as much ram as you want
>>
Here is bigger box
Put box fan on top for cooling

It's a shame this type of gpu dock isn't standardized in some way, it's more convenient than oculink and you get the full speed of your card
>>
>>106747738
So you can't just buy a normal gpu and use it on a egpu connection temporarily until you get a real pc? I thought it was just a dock where you attach normal gpus at the downside of losing that 10% until you connect it to a real pci slot.
>>
>>106746577
how to I plug in my sata interface storage into that?
>>
>>106746577
egpu is probably the future of consoles. instead of selling you a rog ally pro you just buy asus gpu + dock.
>>
>>106748286
depends on egpu. they sell compact ones that dont support desktop ones. (xg mobile, GPD G1)

most support a full size normal gpu
>>
>>106748286
the progression of purchases is the issue. if you buy a minipc you should be sure you're never going to want an egpu. it's just a waste of money to not start with a lower end normal PC.
