How old were you when you realized all the bickering over which "distro" is best is for linux noobs

When did you realize that most distros are just different coats of paint of the same 3 linux flavors?
>>
>>106746913
ubuntu and fedora are the only relevant distros, everything else is a meme

ubuntu is just debian but bloated

nobody cares what a fat neet 50 iq retard from the third world thinks. lenovo, with the biggest notebook/laptop market share in the world thinks Ubuntu and Fedora are the only ones they're secure in offering to their consumers as they're bound to be properly programmed and tested
>>
>>106746940
anything that can run ubuntu can and does run debian by default

ubuntu is just debian with different branding
>>
Is there a gamer distro for gamers like me who don't want to tpm (I clean bathrooms for a living) chip but still have normal hardware to run anything made before 2025?

Right now because I dont use Linux. Linux is for pretentious oxymorons and has 0 software support. Just debloat/despyware a windows installation and remove more programs/tweak the install for prefered speed.
>>
>>106746956
no it does not, only some debian unstable branch packages are 100% equal to ubuntu, ubuntu makes changes to many packages and most programs that make .deb packages like say spotify or steam specify that they only intend for them to be tested for the latest supported Ubuntu LTS release usually and sometimes Ubuntu non LTS as well. One of the weaknesses of ubuntu used to be that it wasn't compatible with .debs made for debian and now it's the opposite, with more people targetting ubuntu while debian is stuck as an afterthought.

>Linux is a le unusable OS for elite hackermans only that breaks for no reason and you have to dig through man pages and occasionally type a command into the scary terminal!
>this is why I run a billion scripts on windows and manually edit hex values in the registry every time there's an update to disable basic functionality of the OS that's tied to the spyware
Also
>0 software support
99% of software for windows runs extremely well with wine or proton. If you're talking about specifically adobe and autodesk and other shit so loaded with DRM that it actively sabotages itself, it's not a Linux problem, it's a problem with that software.

Anyone with a brain knew distro hopping was retarded when you can just install whatever the fuck you want, but kids like looking at install screens man what can you do.
>>
>>106746913
I use Arch btw but I can respect Gentoo, Debian, Void, and the likes. If you use bloated downstream distros you're a retard.
>>
>>106747286
tumbleweed and fedora are upstream do you respect them?
>>
Too bad they all use the same AIDS kernel
>>
>>106746958
Fedora itself is quite nice for gaming, Ubuntu have made changes to their kernel for gaming optimisation. Take your pick really
>>
>>106747373
You can use a different kernel retard

Who the fuck is Ed and why does he get his own Ubuntu??

most of my life is spent with the main three distros, though earlier on it was zorin and mint (both ubuntu, by extension also debian)
i still have fond memories of installing fedora 3 years ago and actually using it for about year, right now im driving arch for 6 months already

true. which is why arguing over which DE is best is much more refined.
although it would so happen that the best DEs just so happen to be derivatives of Gnome 2

>the most used and praised distros are just debian with different flavors
>implying that the best desktop environments are just gnome 2 but with updates
so basically the best system is just debian with gnome from before 2011
>>
>>106747449
Lol with very minor changes, the kernel is basically exactly the same across distributions, linus' circumcised little prick is leaking all over your kernel lol
>>
>>106750365
cinnamon is gnome 3
>>
>>106746913
Idk, around 20? I realized that it was more about what you're using it for. But it's all pretty much the same, just different defaults for some small things. These days it's completely irrelevant though, there is basically Gentoo for source based, Qubes for secure desktop, everything else is pretty much the same and the only real difference between them is how "stable" the packages are in their repos.

Former longtime tumbleweed user here.
Stay away, ever since that rotting flesh stunt they pulled development has been fucked, they are in the middle of removing yast and have been doing a horrible job with package management. They can't even do basic stuff like handle nvidia open drivers something fedora because they don't know how to keep the driver and cuda versions together in the same package. Also they are outright abandoning yast which was the main draw of tumblweed because they didn't maintain it for years and now it's a broken mess.
