On linux there is lxrandr that provides a simple gui so you don't have to remember the command switches for xrandr.

However it is annoying still as it doesn't just work. You have to either remember the correct resolution or try several different resolutions to get it right when you connect it to say your television. With modern Windows, it simply automatically switches to a correct resolution to mirror your laptop. With linux it is a struggle session. Stuff like that sucks under linux.

linux is best for industry uses. Is it possible to use for desktop? Do I use it for desktop? Of course. But I find that it works best as a server environment. Hell half the service my linux server provides work better on windows.

Most stuff works through the GUI for a normal user nowadays. If something doesn't work you can always troubleshoot and fix it with the terminal.

If something doesn't work or you want to do something differently on your apple device, you're shit out of luck. No fallback, no alternative, no nothing. It just works, until it doesn't.
