I hate gnome like you wouldn't believe.Gnome hate thread.Share what you dislike about the objectively worst desktop environment in existence.
>>106756045gnome is deprecated now that cosmic is out so this thread is useless
>>106756045everybody does>>106756093>gnome is deprecated now that cosmic is out so this thread is uselessalways has been, KDE is the only worthy linux DE since it's superior to any DE in every possible way.
>>106756045Nah, give us your reasons
>>106756045But I like it.
>>106756045>Dev team focuses too much on backend compositor/toolkit shit instead of implementing basic features every other desktop has or fixing several year old bugs>Corporate product so community has to use javascript extensions to fit the common desktop usecase over the expected server/workstation environment>Extensions do not utilize a stable API, chances of breakages upon gnome-shell updating increases exponentially with the number of extensions installed>Gtk4 forces developers to create equivalents of libadwaita so everything is more isolated (i.e. every desktop has to spend more development cycles on fighting with the toolkit rather than using a shared base like how Qt or older Gtk desktops work)>Part of freedesktop, refuses to acknowledge any other linux desktop>Linux-exclusive due to its systemd dependency, including excluding other distros>Entirely different desktop paradigm, confusing to get used to along with outdated and lacking documentation (many GNOME features are hidden and not made obvious, especially compared to other desktops)>Icons and theming are default on linux, refuses to make them fit anything other than itself, causing breakages on other desktops>Does not follow wayland specifications, causing program breakages >Release cycles only care about RHEL, "stable" only actually applies to a release that will end up in RHEL, even Ubuntu gets the shaft sometimes>Libadwaita disallows native theming, just because they don't care>Supposed focus on accessibility is shattered whenever the user does something not "allowed" by the devs>Gtk4 development being done mainly by GNOME and other GNOME-adjacent developers means Gtk4 mainly fits GNOME's needs rather than anything else, despite Gtk being ubiquitous in LinuxThere's more things I could mention, but the key takeaway is that GNOME is 'selfish', in that most of its issues stem from the fact it grew from a desktop operating system DE, to a piece of a larger RedHat puzzle. t. 2y in gnome
I'm glad COSMIC is going to deprecate Microsoft Gnome.
>>106759092In 4 years, perhaps.
I find dash-to-panel funny because at that point why would you even use the standard gnome de
>>106757145What's the use case for reasons?
I hate how you have to make loads of custom widgets just to make a regular application
I like just about all the GNOME apps except the DE shell itself and use sway. It's been comfy.
>>106756045God yes, I fucking hate gnome and every fucking retard idiot who uses it. It's is the most unintuitive piece of shit I've ever had the displeasure of using. The only thing it has going for it, is the fact that winblows is still somehow worse.
GNOME is the only DE that actually just works and isn't bloated though.
>>106763396That's because DE's suck dick. Either use a WM like a chad or you can use mint if you're a normy retard.
>>106763316>unintuitive >press windows key>manage windows>manage virtual desktops>spawn apps by searchingIt's literally the least shit workflow I've ever used in my life. Windows, fagOS and anything else literally look like a joke in comparison. Throw on gTile and it's literally over. >muh kdeBloatwindows key only opens up the shitty start menuSearching for apps is slow so late results in search can fuck with your current selection. shit literally crashes, lock screen, task bar, etc. I don't get how you people, if you can even be called such a thing, can say this unless you're functionally retarded, unless your workflow is entirely driven through some r/UnixPorn tier X window manager autism. >>106763415Show me your Wayland WM...
>>106763444>using gaylandngmi
>>106760570it's what i'm used to
>>106756045Well gnome gave me my first annoying "Why do I need this bullshit on my computer" moment with Linux via the whole glycin bubble wrap thing that just showed up.It's not a HUGE issue, but it's still a question of WHY.
