How can i play minecraft with my friends like old times for free? Hamachi is still a thing?

If you want to avoid port forwarding you can also use tor.
At 2MB/s it is more than fast enough for minecraft

I need a more normie way to play with frens, but ty for ya answer anon

I still don’t understand how Tailscale differs from Hamachi, the end result where they create a P2P vpn tunnel seems to be the same. Maybe the difference is the centralized key server?
But that’s beside the point, your friends could create a tailscale network which would work the same as Hamachi. It doesn’t require port forwarding. Why don’t you want to just forward ports to your Minecraft server though, anon? Are you CGNAT’d?

I will give it a try, ty anons!

You want high singlecore performance for the server, so if it's a small group just play via Lan and something like zerotier for P2P networking, since your pc will be stronger than a vps.
But you can setup a free vps with Oracle's Free Tier. Just use paper or purpur as the server jar to keep it playable.
There's the minecraft wiki for setting up a server if you're stuck.
Also use Adoptiums java release and Aikar's flags on the server side.

also
NEVER use the default mc launcher; use prism or multimc, curseforge is a pile of shit
>>
>>106760314
It's that resoruce intensive now? I remember hosting MC server in 2011 on >Pentium 4 desktop running XP lol, had no issues with ~10 people and some plugins.

Yeah it bloated as shit now and most things aren't paralellized, except for world gen, which still hits its limit if a bunch of people run arround at once, so you might want to pre generate the world using chunky, depending on your player numbers.

Tutorial for setting up for a minecraft server?
>>
>>106759920
if you are a loonix pro and know how to properly isolate things then ssh tunnels should solve everything

There's a similar program to Hamachi called Radmin VPN, my friends and I use it, it's Windows only though. Just remember that the hose needs to be on in order for others to join the world.

While I'm here, does anyone know of a similar program for Linux?

You just fire up the server software and set online mode to false.

If you want people to connect to you without port forwarding, you can use programs that do UPNP or similar techniques that don't require other people to do install anything. Won't work if your router doesn't support those tricks.

There are endless tools, whether they be client mods, server plugins, or even external software...

Tailscale allows you to make your own vpn with zero setup and share it with other people.
