Other than the improvements in the community, what’s the selling point for OpenMandriva over say Fedora or Ubuntu? I know they use LLVM for a lot of the build tools, but I’m neutral on that.

it's less stable than fedora, which is saying a lot since fedora shits the bed quite frequently.
So if you like a rocky desktop experience then openmandriva is definitely for you.
