And I'm tired of pretending it won't. https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-tri-folding-phone-debut-international-summit/
No, shill it won't, there is no purpose.

folding phones aren't going to be a thing until apple decides to perfect the concept
>>106768479ive heard the one fold versions are more fragile than a regular phone. if youre buying these things you should expect to buy the new version next year anyway
>>106768519rofl, shame, looked like a nice thing, if that's what they're expecting from me then miss me with that gay shit
>>106767864I want to have sex with her so badly
>>106768474Like I said they have to make them less gay before people will actually wear them. But they make perfect sense because they're like having a large high resolution screen in a small wearable package. - much better than any (folding) physical screen.
>>106767864These are so cool until you realize they get DEEP scratches from fingernails.
>>106768479If you're not a sperg it should last at least a couple of years. But probably not the full 7 years Samsung offers software updates for.
>>106768614Luckily I'm a man so I keep my fingernails trimmed.
>>1067686242 years is too little, specially if they ask for fuck you price, which they probably doyeah I get it, I'm not the target for them, then, they're not the target for me either
>>106768707Many people buy a new phone every two years. Many people also get their phones as a tax deductible business expense. You might not be the audience but there is an audience.
wow! 2 creases on my screen! foldables aren't ready until the crease problem is solved.
>superior korean phone, folded over 2 times!
>>106767864>uh-oh folding phones are not selling as well as we thought! l-lets double down with them, okay?People working in tech companies are genuinely retarded.
>>106769076underrated
>>106767864let me know when they make a phone that can be folded more than 7 times and I'll be impressed
>>106769004They should just make phones that can roll up. The Samsung Scroll would be a game changer in the phone industry.
>>106767864i want smaller phones, not bigger ones
>>106768518they aren't making one until a creaseless 2000nit foldable amoled display hits the market
>>106767923>>106768479As far as I'm aware, the actual mechanical action is pretty reliable, and they're not even that easy to break. They do still come with warnings that they're not dust-resistant, so if you have dirt in your pockets and it gets in the hinge maybe it'll cause friction. The real dealbreaker on these, though, is that the center screen is made out of flexible plastic. It gets scratched and marked by everything, if you have dirt in your pocket forget the hinge - if it gets inside the fold it's leaving a deep groove, and you can't put any extra screen protectors on top. And they are pricing them as if each section was its own flagship phone, so you're paying $2000 for a fold and probably $3000 for a trifold, all to have a shitty plasticky screen that looks mediocre and ripples when you pass your finger over and scratches if you touch it with your nail. The mechanics are basically a solved problem, it's foldable screens that aren't.

>>106768420>Android phones force you os updates>iOS doesn't force you into os updatesTells you all you need to know
>>106769167They should make penis shaped phones
>>106767864Huwaei released one a while ago, and it had a ton of trade-offs that kinda sucked.
>>106767864ngl if it's good I will buy itthe only thing I want is to be able to read manga full screen on tablet devices I don't care about much else I have a tablet for that now but if this saved me from needing two devices I'll get it It needs to unfold at a minimum of 11" though I tried many smaller devices and I did not like them.
I think one of the chinese companies are also making a tri-fold and like Samsung's its going to cost a fuckload. It seems they're only just getting folding tech set up decently without creasing the screen and with having tempered glass protection. It seems like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is probably the best lengthwise fold to date and doesn't need to deal with shitfuck Samsung proprietary UI / ROM variant, likewise the Huawei Mate XT or whatever their trifold is. I'd be more impressed with something that can fold open and clamshell style so I can pocket it more easily and then open it once to get a traditional smartphone form factor, and then unfold that the otherway to get a tablet style, rather than a 3-fold-makes-bigger-tablet necessarily. Ah well
>>106769479I'd check out the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Its the first foldable with the IP68 water and dust resisting certification as I recall, and the center screen is glass (one of the new Corning Gorilla Glass Vae Victus 2 or whatever the fuck they call it) so thats promising at least.
>>106767864I find less and less need for my no-fold smartphone, let alone one that has 3
>>106769444which surprise, surprise is what it will take for foldables to be worthwhile
>>106768244these were popular though and lived up until the smartphones took over
Didn't the Chinese do this like a year ago? Why will the world change when the Koreans do it?
>>106768436The third fold is from asscheeks spreading when consumerism comes to fuck you until you bleed
>>106767864this is a direct consequence of normalfags having only tiny phones as their main computer device. having a dedicated laptop or a tablet is a no-no but a thick brick flopping around in your pocket is ok.
I want to creampie a plain japanese girl.
>>106768332then elder scrolls after that
>>106767923I saw a customer using some folding screen phone at work a few weeks ago and told him I hadn't seen one of those screens IRL until then. He said he's had it for a couple years without issues. I don't remember what the model was.
>>106769004creases are literally not an issue on regular foldables, when you look at it straight on you can't even see it. not sure that'll be true for screens with two creases that aren't in the center though
>>106772746I don't think we're getting "fold into quarters" phones any time soon kek. Imagine how thick a quad-folded phone would be, it would defeat the purpose of being pocketable unless they make it 2x thinner than current phones can be, which doesn't seem physically possible.
>>106772746>>106772841>center screen is glassHuh, source? gsmarena says it's a plastic screen inside. It might be wrong but where'd you get the info
>>106767864still a shitty plastic screen
>>106767864why is cosmetic surgery so normalized in Korea and why do women who get it act like they are better than the men who don't? And why do the women who don't get it blame men for the women that do get it?
I dont want a folding phone. I want a folding portable monitor. There’s one, I think, but it’s expensive as all hell
Saying "chage the world" when this shit has existed since 2024 is cringe as fuck
>>106767864What is the use-case of foldable phones?
>>106769479I have had a OnePlus Open for 9 months and it has been fine. I've dropped it onto concrete twice and just have corner dings. Inside screen is in perfect shape because I close the phone if I'm not actively using it like a sane person.
>>106767864Idk about change the world but the aspect ratio is so much better than book folds. I also wouldn't daily drive one but having a tablet in my backpack with that small of a footprint would be great.
>>106768479had a fold 4, inner screen stopped working properly after 2 years. unfold it probably an average of 3 times a day.i'll never get a foldable ever again.
>>106775620I had a fold 4, 1 year and 11 months in the inner screen would blank out if there was any sound. No issues if i kept the volume muted. Got it fixed under warranty then sold it
Wake me when they make a fucking quad-fold.
>>106768332yea
>>106774402the idea is that one device can serve as both phone and tablet, or maybe just a more portable tabletthe problem, of course, is that as soon as you add hinges it becomes 1000x more fragile
>>106767864They haven't even solved the single fold screen problems. Why would I want a dual fold?Maybe in a decade the screen won't peel apart after a year of use. There's no reason to want something with an extra set of points of failure.
>>106767864>phone:|>phone, folding:/>phone, TWO folding:O
>>106768244The things I would do to get a smartphone like this. The unique designs of the time mixed with the features of more recent phones would be great
>>106767864how is the battery and weight on these tri-folding phones? it sounds cool on paper, but can i carry it in my pocket?
>>106773287noice>>106769479Interesting info>>106768886hmh... then I might be the target sooner than later
>>106768244These seem better than a folding smartphone. Sacrificing size for tactile buttons in your phone makes sense. Sacrificing size just to make your phone the size of a tablet doesn't. It's a machine you want to be able to use one handed
>>106767864This shits gonna cost like $3000 btw.
>>106771269how am I supposed to text my bros, tickle underneath the phone's glans with my tongue?
>>106767864usecase for those who don't watch sportsball?
>>106776242>>106777219In theory, it actually lives up to the "phone + tablet in one device" promise. Single folding phones unfold into a square display that doesn't really let you use them as a proper tablet or portable computer, especially with how tall and narrow phones have gotten nowadays.Tripling the width means you are closed to 16:9 aspect ratio for watching videos or any normal content, you have more field of view in games, or if you're trying to use desktop software or productivity shit you have something that looks more like a real screen.>inb4 why are you watching movies or playing games on your phoneI'm not which is why I have no intention of buying a $3k toy gadget with planned obsolescence, this is just the reasoning why these are being made in the first place. An apalling number of people use their phones for their primary media consumption.
>>106773167good post
>>106768332printed display. you'll be able to print displays on any surface
>>106777713displays are already printed out, they're just not strong enough to deal with the constant use and constant bending. solve the material problem and prevent any form of creasing or wear and you'd be on a winner.
>>106774396THANK YOUI swear to god it's like amerifats exist in a parallel universe. They call rechargeable batteries "eneloops" because that's the only brand they know for example.
>>106773704Eh, a lot of today's phones have a huge camera bump leading to much of the thickness at the biggest part, but if we think back to both candy bar and flip phones of the old days, even a 'quad folded" phone would be no thicker than a pack of cigarettes or one of those high end Japanese flip phones (that often had the screen part rotate thanks to a hinge on othe top) back in the day. The bigger issue I think is having them work on a design that wouldn't crease or have other issues at two directions at the same time not one, which seems an engineering challenge but doable. >>106773838Direct from the Google Store Pixel 10 Pro Fold page. Pic related. Top is the external display, bottom is the internal one. Apparently the gorilla glass victus 2 is on the external (ie 'normal' phone screen) to protect it since that is exposed to everything instead of being folded up, but the bottom internal one specifically claims to be a glass screen individually so not a plastic one.
>>106771269why would ants need phones?
>>106779055>ultra thin glassInteresting. Maybe in like five years they'll actually make them good.
