You don't need a systems programming language at all for that.I actually work with industrial sensors (usually Modbus over RS485, so essentially serial) and the computer interfaces are usually written in something more high-level. There's LabView stuff, Python stuff, even some ancient VisualBasic programs.And Python is actually quite comfy for working around low-level binary protocols with the builtin ctypes and struct modules.
