Could someone explain the latest NixOS drama? It's very confusing.
>>
It's the usual thing, the majority-trans and leftist dev team forces the cis non-political devs out, a story as old as time.
>>
>>106769963
They have three bodies:
Board (I guess permanent?)
Steering Commitee (elected by committers/maintainers)
Moderators (Unelected that self appoint members)
For some reasonnNixOS needs a "Constitution" as well as a CoC.

The Steering Committee has authority to remove mods, so they removed one of the mods. Other mods resigned in protest and demanded that mods also have the authority to remove steering committee members. Then leftist SC members decided to "vote of no confidence" another SC member, which failed because the Nix team (developers of the language and package manager) are not far left, so they were like "lmao no". Now people are asking them to resign

trannies hang themselves
>>
>>106769963
troons sabotaging projects. troons crying and quitting when they don't get their way. troons harassing people trying to get shit done. give them an inch and they take a mile--slippery slope is real.
>>
>>106770464
Why deal with this nonsense? Just get a Mac.
>>
J̣̌ Irŵin post above ignore and report
>>
>>106769963
NixOS is now full on jew/tranny genocide. Trannies seethe and ragequit.
>>

>Could someone explain the latest NixOS drama?
some people are still seething that anduril wanted to sponsor one of their meetups
>>
I don't have any of these issues on GNU Guix
>>
>>106770884
you don't have any issues because you have no drivers to have issues.
>>
>>106770520
If apple makes a good OS, I'll consider it.
>>
>>106770520
>Just get a Mac.
but you can run nix-darwin on the mac
>>
>>106770902
retard lol

>Other mods resigned in protest and demanded that mods also have the authority to remove steering committee members
That's how the Rust project is set up. The mod team is self-elected and can ban people from the leadership council or from other teams (the teams are the people who actually do the work, and the council consists of one representative from each team). It's supposed to make you feel safe, knowing that the jannies can ban anyone, no matter how important, if they turn out to be problematic.
>>
>>106771110
>demanded that mods also have the authority to remove steering committee members
That sounds delusional.
>>
>>106769963
>steering committee is elected
>steering committee decides how things go (which includes moderator overreach) by STEERING the project
>randoms are granted moderator status and not voted into power
>mods are mad about steering committee direction and want to be able to control steering committee
>steering committee says LMAO no
>mods have a tantrum
Even if you don't like the steering committee, their decisions, political leanings or whatever, you have to admit it's pretty fucking stupid of the mods.
>>
>>106770884
your guix vm that you boot up only for neofetch? tinker distro.
>>
NixOS seems like a good idea but in practice I only have like 2-3 computers I use frequently, in which case I just install some distro with sane defaults and the time it takes me to add packages and settings as needed is way less than the time needed to write the nix config files. Also not all of my computers are made equal. Each computer has different hardware and use cases and will likely have different software which means different nix files for every device so what's even the point.
>>
>>106772108
Flakes solve this exact issue
>>
>>106772108
either you like the idea of having the description on how to set up your system in a centralised place or no. of course you could do the same with some scripts for personal usage and using nixos for your desktop and even homelab is kind of an overkill unless it satisfies your autism
>>
>>106772108
i have a base configuration that is shared between everything and a host specific config that includes the base. it's easy and convenient.
>>
>>106771912
LOL as opposed to nix?
>>
>>106773159
I mean the whole drama started because a military company wanted to sponsor them, we can safely assume people actually use that stuff
>>
nixos sucks because if you have some application with a problem, most times you can't just solve it directly, you have to jump through nix hoops and pray your problem can be solved with how the maintainers decided to implemented the package instead of just editing a config file manually or something sane. unless you're managing fleets of identical servers it's not worth it for single or few boxes
>>
>>106770076
But isn't these the same guys that wanted to fork it due to the founder working with miltech guys? If i remember correctly, one of them was that guy/trans that was fired by Google and said it was due to discrimination due to being trans.
>>
>>106773202
If your bar is "some people use this stuff" the same could be applied to Nix, because other than trannyware and ricing shit Guix can work just as well in for industrial shit.
Just a reminder that the 1 gorillion dogshit """packages""" nix boasts about are a) worthless rice shit b) rewritten in rust tranny shit c) literal tranny shit d) gaymer desktop shit
Now do us a favor and kill yourself.
>>
>>106773302
Yet anduril chose nix over guix

damn I can't believe a heckin evil military industrial complex company was funding nixos development, so glad we got rid of them and kicked all their employees out of the project, now let's continue using software like systemd made by RedHat (owned by IBM who have no MIC ties what so ever)
>>
>>106773340
And?
AMD uses Guix. They even contribute packages.

>>
>>106773384
That's actually pretty nice

>>106769963
>snowflakeOS
>>
>>106773233
>pray your problem can be solved with how the maintainers decided to implemented the package
Pretty sure theyll ask you to implement the package yourself and thats the nix way. With their non-existent/incoherent documentation
>>
>>106773159
>as opposed to nix?
Meaning which, that NixOS is also a "tinker distro", or that someone would only have it in a "vm that you boot up only for neofetch"?
>>
and because of this nonsense upstream nix will never get the multithreaded evaluator

I'll take this an opportunity to vent my frustrations about /g/.

/g/ is mainly performative. The neofetch and browser bootloader meme is absolutely true. /g/irls (because every serious /g/ user is trans) like to think they are literally Motoko Kusanagi and are deciphering the Matrix as I type this with their custom firmware ThinkPad collection. Upon closer inspection the tasks performed are literally the exact same as any other computer user.

They are browsing here, playing games on Steam or otherwise, using a Twitter clone for their special interest, or reading some meme philosophy like Kant or Stirner or ""knowledge"" off of /x/.
>"Yeah women with crystals are fucking gay but have you like heard about DMT machine elves?"

Since they don't produce anything, the best thing they can muster is neat looking personal websites and terminal prompts. Maybe a weird keyboard that would get a cheap pop from someone who's never used anything other than the one the computer came with.

As a result all of the threads posted here suck. There's never any interesting threads about embedded technology or code golf (that isn't sequestered in some gay general with known/tripfag posters), it's just lame "my thing better than your thing" threads. Maybe a cool looking thread will drop about new technology, but it usually pans out to be useless trinkets like Flipper which at best was just another badge cloner.

But they don't stop just there (as this thread mentions), all of this burnout nonsense manifests in a vying for control in community projects. The few remaining wizards and train people that make software for a living or for fun are now dealing with a barrage of some variant of this person coming in and basically doing what Indians do and doing pointless commits or code housemaking. They fluff the pillows up and make a GUI installer, but aren't in the trenches writing the low level code. Then, the project isn't about the code anymore, its how they can feel affirmed.

>>106771110
source?
>>
>>106772218
I satisfy my configuration autism with a big Puppet config that has a bunch of ifs for various computers. Supposedly NixOS is better than Puppet, but I find all the controversy and infighting deeply offputting. Also, their CLI seems really inconsistent.
>>
Chuds are taking over.
>>
>>106775587
The development of nix itself is separate and the drama only affects nixpkgs and nixos
