Are CS grads just fucked? Even UC Berkeley grads can't get work.
Grim.
>>106770011Skill issuet. recently landed a remote job and im enjoying itt. have been working remotely for the past 6 years
>>106770280>already employed prior to covidyou didn't beat the game
>>106770011In the US they're utterly fucked, here in my country there's plenty jobs for anyone capable of coding alone something minimally complex, the problem most of those people are probably finding themselves on is that they have nothing to show off to get at least an internship, so they can never gain experience and probably get hired at the internship.Plus, most universities are just teen daycare, nowadays, so it's not as if a degree even mean shit in the current state of the world, a properly done programming trade school degree is worth more than an university degree where people can barely do any work whatsoever, but they know a lot about the inner workings of a computer.
>>106770011The American economy is in the absolute gutter and has been for the past two years. All of the media is owned by elites, the entire government is owned by elites, they are doing everything to make sure that you will own nothing. Indian CEOs are sending jobs overseas and claiming it's because of AI which is the single thing propping up the US stock market, once it becomes more widely known that AI is a dead end and that the real cost-savings are coming from sending jobs to Bangalore, the house of cards will come crashing down and we will have a crash the likes of which this country hasn't seen in 100 years. Mass unemployment, mass civil unrest, and ICE will turn from going after random Mexicans to going after any American that dares to try and raise a finger against the elite-run regime. Labor camps have already been erected all over the country and the incarceration rate will skyrocket while the top 5% of people will be told that nothing nefarious is going on, it's just antifa / white supremacists / whatever partisan boogeyman they will believe is to blame for everything as long as they don't believe it's Israel.
>>106770280Apparently reading comprehension is no longer a required skill in the job marketOP should be fine
>everybody should learn to codewe told you that was retarded
>>106770592It's so over
No they're not fucked but people are getting the wake up call that they can't just do 0 work in college and get handed a job at FAANG. When I graduated in 2018 I had to apply to 100+ jobs before I got one offer too, nothing has changed in this regard and "AI is replacing us :(((" is a smokescreen. If AI was genuinely capable of replacing juniors I would be using it daily to do my job but its not.
>>106770011As some one that got a job during the peak of it here's the problem people have>They lack a application routine>They don't understand they are competing against jeet bots that are trying to scam jobs>they often do 2 a day and bail>they often lack the ability to have lower expectations>they often doom on here instead of applying. You should be doing 10-20 a day bare minimum.
>>106770778The new meta is "learn to plumb", which is even more retarded. Zoomers and Gen Alpha are in for a rude awakening when they all go into the trades and realize that no, you don't magically make 100k being a welder, and no, running a business isn't easy especially not when you're competing against fifteen local scam artists.
>>106770592meds
>>106770818Can you explain the methodology you used to find a job? Is linkedin the best? Local? I've got a long gap after my CS degree and wondering if it's over for me, though I do have a lot of Linux, virtualization, networking, and server experience.
>>106770592ok doomer
>>106770011Tech is stagnant, you don't need people to just copy shit that's been copied and bastardized 100 times before.
>>106771441He's a krobe. They troll employment boards and threads, mocking people looking for jobs and trying to demoralize them. Krobes almost never actually have jobs themselves. They're typically "smart but lazy" types bitter at the world that never recognized their self perceived brilliance. They want you to be unemployed forever as it makes them look good by comparison.
>>106770011the jews are exporting all of our jobs to aliens in foreign countries just like they destroyed our manufacturing, they are now destroying tech workall nu-workers are going to be aliens with AIthe government is allowing this to happen
>>106772135Based. Foreigners actually work hard. They deserve an income, not you.
>>106770011It's not just CS anon, it's all jobs. They keep revising numbers down when they weren't great already. The (((high interest rates))) are making it tough or impossible for businesses to expand, AKA hire.
>>106770797Correct, AI is a red herring. Even the hype sloppers are admitting that now.>>106771441Find the hiring manager for the job you're looking for on LinkedIn, and reach out to them directly. Email preferably, if you can find it listed. Networking is better than "fire and forget" applications. NEVER use the quick apply on LinkedIn.
>>106770011My university was at least 50% retards that just wanted to do dumb shit away from parents instead of learning
>>106772544I feel it super weird to cold email or message hiring managers. Also based on my history of rejections, I don't have a very good perception of them. One can even say hate them.
>>106772587Then continue doing what you're doing, that doesn't work.
>>106771441>I've got a long gap after my CS degreeyou put personal projects in your resume, r-right?you take on personal projects because it interests you, r-right?>inb4 noidk you might be fucked
>>106770011as its always been, it's difficult getting the first role. nothing has changed.>>106770280i've been doing it for a year and a half. Moving to a new role with 1 day a week in office for a 50% raise.
>>106772955I have a home lab I've autistically configured with subnets and vlans, and I've got a NAS I set up with ZFS, SMB, and a bunch of virtualization shit (ie, Docker, KVM/QEMU Vms). I also have a few basic websites.
>>106772526That makes sense
>>106770011If you're a javascript worshipping Indian web eveloper, sure, it's fucking over for you.If you're a midwit going to an expensive uni, yeah, it might also be over for you.Why were you in CS/SE in the first place?People used to be actually interested in computer science, logic and electrical engineering. These nerds or pioneers of old innovated the entire economy. They had no LLMs, no advanced uni courses on computers, no Stack Overflow, Google or YouTube tutorials.Yet they were incredibly productive, incredibly talented and incredibly intelligent. Everything you use today is their work, or stands on their work.Ergo, their economic value was huge, they were paid very high wages and they enjoyed a high social status.Retards saw this happen. They never cared for technology or mathematics or physics. But they saw the money and the fame and they wanted it.Just the same way that they saw university degrees and wanted them, which is why you need a degree for everything now, while universities are filled with ideologues.Anyhow - they are now surprised that nobody needs their inferior abilities. They can't figure out what to do. Develop electron apps on fiver, or code the 782342nd chess engine in Rust?Regardless of what it is, they simply cannot innovate, because they do not have the necessary IQ - they lack Awen. And NOTHING, no amount of education, no amount of resume inflation, no amount of fucking leetcode will EVER fix that. They are simply being outcompeted by foreign workers, like Indians, with comparable skills, for one third the cost, or even just by LLMs.To summarize: You chose the wrong industry, you need a minimum IQ of 125 to get anywhere and ideally 135 or above.I hear McDonald's managers make $48 per hour.
>>106770011maybe get some actual skills instead of something that can be done by a chatbot?
>there are people who went 50-100k in debt to get a CS degree only for me to make their job redundant with $50/month in AI subscriptionslmfaoshould've learnt a trade retards
>>106770011You need referrals nowadays. I had a 2.0 GPA and no real internships but went to a top 4 CS school. Got almost no callbacks from blindly applying online, and only got an interview by referral by my current manager. Then the rest should be easier: memorize and regurgitate leetcode to pass the interviews. This was after covid but before chatgpt came out
>>106776350>current student copeyeah bud youre not getting a job no matter what weird "actually, im PASSIONATE about cs" copes you have in your headmarket is literally more than 10x saturated with juniors with degrees and no exp right now
>>106776350Pretty crazy that we designed the SR-71 and F-117 with a slide rule, and now fags have to ask ChatGPT simple fucking questions. I was on the phone with a literal Jew customer the other day about some claim bullshit on a a building he owns in Chicago. I was trying to tell him something about his now lack of financial interest in the building and how the insurance company almost assuredly no longer owes for it. This fucking Jew literally said "Well, I asked ChatGPT and it says I can". >Is ChatGPT an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois?>No? So yeah, we don't give a fuck about what ChatGPT saysLike you pay an attorney, Jew. Maybe ask him instead of your fucking computer.
