We need a standard like maybe the left inch of the title bar can be reserved as "grab" space. I hate having to hunt for a place to click, and using the keyboard+click is annoying.

No, and I admit, "merging" the menu bar into a hamburger button on the title bar is fine and one of the few things Gnome actually does get right.
