After Microsoft force-updated my W7 desktop completely ruining my Plex setup and forcing me to spend a day fixing it, I just went to Linux and put Windows 7 in a VM and that's where it has been for the past 10 years. All the Windows software I need works in there, everything else I can use Linux for. You don't have a bajillion connections phoning back home to Microsoft about what you're doing all the time... No forced updates.... Works pretty smoothly as long as you're not on cutting-edge hardware in my experience.
