Because the standard Intel forced everyone to use had proprietary benefits that worked fine on Intel, but slowed it down for competing chips like AMD, so AMD had to circumvent Intel's sabotage.

Different timings. I bought intel ram recently, a 2666 kit. While it did work at jedec on AMD and overclocked to 3600 with zero effort, it would not boot with the 2666 XMP profile enabled.
On an intel system XMP was enabled automatically and it worked fine.

AMD is commendable for keeping Socket 4 alive for so long, but no fuck you if you thing this is alright to pull.
