automation only affects the number of jobs available in the short run. new technologies have always displaced workers from jobs, but new jobs tend to pop up as long as productivity remains up. i don't think AI is really increasing productivity, it's really just a distraction and anyone who actually believes ChatGPT has replaced entry level coding jobs is just too stupid to work in that field anyway

All jobs are bullshit jobs let's face it. What's the purpose of living? We live to keep living and that's it. There is no grand scheme or purpose. All or at least most arguments against this will
reach for things that you're already dismissing as "bullshit work" like art etc things that people feel give life meaning. There will only be "non-bullshit jobs" if you can identify the true purpose of our existence and you might think you can but you can't because there is none.

But let's just assume our purpose is "survival": survival of our species and of our societies. That means meaningful jobs are food production and distribution, government, policing, firefighting, healthcare, engineering (only if it pertains to technology essential for "survival"), education and training (only if the subjects are necessary for "survival")

Then you start to have problems with the capitalist structure of society. "Bullshit jobs" have to exist because there are not enough "meaningful jobs" to employ all the people who are expected to work. And people are expected to work, to pay for their own keep.

Eventually AI and robotics are going to get so good as to make all but the most elite humans completely obsolete, to the point that any job you'd be doing, unless you were an exceptional human like, for example, Stephen Hawking was, would be a bullshit job, designed to make you think you're doing something when actually it's just charity, and your "work" is a net loss that a machine would have done 100x faster at a higher quality standard.
