Is Unreal Engine dogshit?
>>
Isn't it silly how humans type letters in the computer and get mad at letters in the computer?

i hate UE and TAA so fucking much bros

holy shit, we spent my entire life aiming towards greater and greater visual fidelity and then they drop in this blurry wokeslop engine everywhere
>>
Game development in general is dogshit. The different tools are different flavors of dogshit.
In my opinion, game development should be considered a form of computer based self-harm.
>t. spent teenage years doing gamedev, got a CS degree and became a run-of-the-mill software developer
>>
turns out making hating unreal your entire personality isn't a great idea
>>
>>106776515
UE is basically the epitome of "we're paid a salary so we have to justify our jobs by implementing more shit".
>>
>>106776581
>game developer goes out their way to make slop
>blame the engine
cringed so hard that it rippled back through time and my hunter and gatherer ancestors are looking around grunting and wondering what had just happened.
just face the facts: various game developers have hit the bottom of the barrel of ideas or just cloning styles, ideas, presentation etc.
>>
>>106776639
yeah and they just so happened to all use ue5 with taa and blur this shit out of all their games

i can handle a lot of shit with modern day AAA wokeslop but blur, narrow fov, dof etc is just a line in the sand for me
>>
>>106776656
>but blur, narrow fov, dof etc is just a line in the sand for me
i hate it. looks terrible.
>>
>>106776515
unreal engine is one of the most impressive software ever written
>>
Has there ever been a good unreal engine game?
>>
>>106776515
Always has been
>>
honestly it's kinda funny that 4.26 and 4.27 were great final versions of the engine, and then they ruined it all with releasing 5.0 and basically starting from scratch. except this time with more bloat and less performance. kinda feels like ue4 is the game engine, ue5 is the virtual production engine. unreal engine 5 will be completely irrelevant for 3rd party games soon as everyone will be dev'ing in their three.js/babylon.js/webgl/webgpu engine of choice
>>
>>106776788
The original Unreal, amazing graphics and performance for its time.
>>
>>106776903
Yes I meant to exclude that but I was too lazy to type it out
>>
>>106776788
UE1: Unreal, UT99, Deus Ex
UE2: Splinter Cell CT, UT2K4, Tribes, XIII, Swat 4
UE3: Dishonored, Life is Strange, Mass Effect, Spec Ops
Only truly starts going downhill around UE4, and even then there were decent ones like Returnal, Days Gone, It Takes Two.

Anyone who responds to someone else's interpretation of a critique instead of going directly to the source, or better yet, asking them directly, should be castrated.
>>
>>106777329
>>106776618
The thing is though, he does criticize UEwith mostly valid points.
But "sebastian" in the screenshot is right, he also does argue that other engines are a waste of time and only unreal matters.
>>
>>106776515
no, it is a skills issue
>>
>>106777378
>he also does argue that other engines are a waste of time and only unreal matters
Can you link the video where he makes this argument? I've only seen one of his videos, the most recent one about BRDFs. He makes some interesting points but I don't particularly want to
>actually watch all of our videos in their entirety
>>
>>106776617
Most anything you'd want to do with indie game is easy now. It's an art/game design challenge now.
>>
>>106777378
Link to the original criticism. I'm not interested in your interpretation.
>>
>>106776639
>cringed so hard that it rippled back through time and my hunter and gatherer ancestors are looking around grunting and wondering what had just happened.
beyond reddit
>>
>>106776618
You are NOT watching our content. You don't know shit!
>>
>>106776515
the problem is every unreal engine game looks the same somehow
>>
>>106776515
unreal 5 is dogshit but its the best we have right now

>>106778263
a lot of the problem is use of default shaders, sorta like how every unity game looks the same because 99% of them are asset flips
>>
>>106776515
>Watch ALL our videos in their entirety and then come back
kek
>>
>>106778325
>attack someones argument without actually knowing the entire thing

let me guess, trump voter?
>>
>>106776515
>You are NOT watching our content; we answer your questions in our videos
>Stop spreading false rumors & inaccurate misquotes about us
>no, I won't tell you which of the things you said I think are false or inaccurate
>just spend six hours of your life watching my videos and try to guess what you did wrong
>>
>>106776515
If you want to make a game of plastic people living in a plastic world, this is the right time. UE5 delivers that look, for free (RTX 5090 = minimum requirement for 60 FPS).
>>
>>106778263
No they don't. Most AA and AAA games just use that AAA cinematic realism art style. Lego games, Valorant, Marvel Rivals, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, Infinity Nikki, and some others don't look like unreal games because they use a distinct stylized art style. I bet you think a lot of games that aren't actually unreal are also unreal.
>>
>>106776515
It’s a freemium product.
Literally, they hand it out like candy then have the big fees kick in if you make over a million with it.
It’s going attract the type of person for the dev base that a freemium game would have as a player base
>>
>>106778571
the lighting is usually a dead giveaway to me
>>
>>106778580
>big fees kick in
It's literally 5% of revenue
>>
>>106776515
it's shit that ships
there are 20 features many games should not use but are
>>
>>106778584
It doesn't have a single lighting system. The raster pipeline is highly configurable and also supports plugins for some stages like GI so you can roll your own solution.
>>
>>106778382
If you can't make an argument for "bideogayme engine bad" in a few minutes it's not a good argument. No one needs to explain it in 20h videos, it's not rocket science. In fact a rocket science 101 class probably takes less
>>
>>106778580
unreal 5 monetization is ridiculously good for the studios compared to unity
>>
>>106776526
You motherfucker, how DARE you? I will brick in your goddamn mouth, I swear to god.
>>
>>106777247
Oh, I see what this is. Your derelict ass found a new daddy. Will you ever develop some kind of self respect?
>>
What they need to do is make engine development easy, like TV, so baste gaymers like myself can get jobs in the industry.
>>
>>106776515
>you have NOT
fucking kill me please
>>
Unreal Engine / Unity is the mark of extreme cost cutting which is EVERY public traded company on the stock market.

BREAKING NEWS: THREAT INTERACTIVE IS HARASSING UNREAL ENGINE GAME DEVELOPERS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnz6CF6ROVM
>>
>>106778834
Fucking kek, I wonder if I should also leave some 1* review to fuck him up.
>>
Grifters sure are dogshit.
>>
>>106777378

>creative writing is reddit
>noooo heckin r/4chan told me you're supposed to just say slurs!!!!
>>
>>106776515
>make one of the most impressive pieces of software ever
>make the easiest scripting system even a monkey could figure out
>think devs can focus on making the games fun now
>instead they show their real selves aka lazy niggers and retarded jeets with no clue what they are doing
>nobody bothers with optimization because UE5 manages to optimize almost everything
>people blame ue instead of the retarded devs
very sad to see.
>>
>>106778263
No they fucking don't
>but muh clone of the 2010 shooter game from parashart interactive(tm) looks the same as the clone of the 2009 game by NiggerGames(tm)
hang yourself
>>
>>106778580
>the big fees
it's literally 5% + goy taxes
>>
competition drives improvement? okay boomer this isnt the 50s anymore, competition drives cloudflare to ddos meemaws cooking site so they can maintain hegemony, get with the times gramps.
>>
>>106776515
how did unreal win over quake is what I want to know.
>>
>>106778900
Your slop will flop UE using cuckjeet lol
>>
>>106776639
>blame the engine
>nooooooooooooooooooo yOu'RE just HOLDING IT WRONG REEEEEE

literally every fucking UE5 game I played was shitty and slow. UE4 games were not nearly as fucking bad. eventually you have to either come to reality and realize that:
the engine is fucked, or is so retardedly unwieldy, literally NO ONE can use it.
>>
>>106779190
id would just hand you the source code and say "good luck" while epic would provide engine support
>>
>>106779320
>id would just hand you the source code and say "good luck"
ok, that's kind of based.
>>
>>106776515
Seems to be, yeah. Pretty much every game out there made with UE5 suffers from it. It's either poor performance or poor image quality due to all the temporal accumulation effects looking like utter crap, or both in many cases. UE5 is the thing all these games have in common.
>>
>>106779190
Unreal didn't go down a path that disallowed wide open spaces to run (Id Tech IV, engine could not handle large areas so every game on it was cramped) or chase meme techs that had an infamously shitty initial outing (Id Tech V, VRAM wasn't enough at release for megatextures to be any good and nobody wants their 2011 AAA game to be full of textures that look like a 1997 game's)
>>
>>106776515
Unreal Engine does have problems but most non-coder game bros fail to understand. It's legacy code, leaky resource automation, and complexity.
