They're trying to position Audacity as one of the apps in the Muse suite, copying the Adobe Creative Suite design. It's some sorry squashed thing to match the rest of these icons. While it looks better in the red rounded rectangle, I'd say it intentionally looks a bit shit to make MuseScore or something look like the more premium option. You wouldn't want just one Muse icon on the taskbar, right? Only the free one? What are you, poor?
>>

>>
>>106782742
I withdraw this comment. MuseScore is free and available on Linux, looks very polished, and is actually a sheet music editor. I think they all are free? This doesn't seem to be a marketing scheme to buy anything like Adobe. I'm confused by what this is.

Very very wrong.
Musescore is the gayest most Jewish most nigger tier kikeware product ever created.
The sheet music editor is "free", sure.
But as part of the experience they spam with NON-STOP nagging about uploading your newly created sheets to musescore.com
And that's where they fuck you.
If you upload your sheet to musescore it becomes part of their sheet music library and you automatically waive your legal rights to provide the arrangement anywhere else.
After doing all the work creating the sheet music, you're handing copyright of it to musescore.
The musescore website and mobile apps for browsing the sheet music library are also predatory kikeware. Every time you open the app you're greeted with a full-screen unskippable ad nagging you to subscribe.
Fuck this company.
Fuck their near monopoly on online sheet music.

>>
>>106787328
Ah yes, my personal choice is going to change what millions of users are gonna see when using this app. This is the way UI design should be done, cater to the 1%. Not to mention branding as a whole!

And make sure that the logo you're proposing doesn't have any transparency, is hyper-detailed, has pointless gradients/bloom/vignettes, and most importantly, doesn't actually meaningfully change the original. Absolutely stellar work, please send your portfolio to Muse Group post-haste, they'll be overjoyed seeing that you single-handedly solved branding. Without even learning the first thing about it!

so how did Muse buy Audacity? how do you buy an open source app? Couldn't they fork it or something? or did they buy some foundation with the website?

so I use the "label" feature, because they can be used to chop audio.

You can auto label too based on silence.

ctrl-b adds a label at the play head.

I also use them to help me keep track of what's in a track when deleting stuff I don't need.

I'm doing this for personal language learning.

yt-dlp -x
to extract audio
(always updooted to the latest)

also, in audacity X pauses with the playhead wherever it is. vs space that resets.
>>
>>106782913
>legal rights

It's not good that we have copyright. It's not improving things. Patents are also a bad situation.

The theory was that it would encourage innovation, but it doesn't, because they are held too long, and innovators aren't rewarded (too hard to ramp up a big business on a patent, since people who don't understand tech are investors, so there's no connecting good idea and money)

This. I don't get why they went with the eye raping pink-red, and the loss of the the waveform loses the rest of its identity.

Rest of the app looks pretty good, though I'm amused how he explains how much the app should be simplified and have good defaults, then proceeds to have a handful of configurations or modes, and even worse annoying popups to determine preferred behavior.

ngl that is fresh after all the flat materialui shit everywhere. the waveform had to be there definitely

The logo isn't even designed by that guy. when he talks about it he was even ambivalent about it. But regardless of the logo, all other changes are nice.

>>106795114
crazy how much better this is

It's useless to argue over the logo because it was clearly made with Musehub in mind. They've already made up their mind, they're not showing it off early for feedback, they're showing it off early to try and get you used to it.

>>
>>106798372
I think its like fashion, they keep changing the "in" thing so you have to pay someone or pay for something to be "in". Its why I had baggy jeans as a kid, skinny jeans as a grad and whatever the fuck (straight?) jeans as an adult. When we were kids icons were symbolic and targeted clarity at low resolutions (16x16, 32x32) and small color palettes. Then icons got JUICY because color palettes and resolution improved, then we adapted skeuomorphism because of Apple, and then we entered the FLAT era because of Duarte over at Google. All pointless changes that keep confusing people over and over again to keep graphics designers employed.

I think it's pretty funny how the video is a pretty high quality, well mastered and edited one and then there's the clips from the devs which look to be recorded on a 320x240px potato
>muh logo is dated
no, the UI / UX is (was?) dated. the logo is fine.
I'd go further: the entire logo lineup looks like some shitcoin wallet, with random shapes next to each other. much like I'm positive about practically all the 4.0 visual changes to audacity, I dislike the logos with a passion
granted, it's a bit of a law of triviality: few people can meaningfully critique how audacity's UX should work like, but everybody has an opinion about logos, but... those are just bad, man. "two purple squares with a circle between them on a black background", what is this even? a satellite? I wouldn't guess it's supposed to be something musical without the name being Musehub. The audio.com is more like some bullshit postmodernist art or possibly CAD for children.
Flat can make sense for UI, like in VS code or whatever. But those are straight up bad.
t. not qualified to criticize audacity UI
>>
>>106806143
>no, the UI / UX is (was?) dated
it's a tool, not a fashion item
flat is objectively inferior
>>
>>106806177
the tool's GUI is almost by definition how you interact with the tool, and good presentation is immensely valuable. Audacity was always fine for my simplistic uses so I don't really have strong feelings about the qt rewrite, but it was unarguably clunky for anything but the simplest uses.
I'll take the dark mode and less excessive buttons that turned out to be unnecessary, thanks

The problem was when it was shown alongside the rest of the "suite", so there are definitely plans to enshittify Audacity down the line like they did to MuseScore.
