>mfw displayportRedpill me on DisplayPort
I have a USB-C monitor that supports display port. It also has USB ports on the monitor, so I can use it like a hub. I plug my laptop into the monitor for dual monitors. If I want, I can plug a keyboard and mouse into that, but I generally just use the extra screen and charging. It's kinda nice.
>>106784291you're alway paying a bit extra to the patent jew if you use hdmi
>>106784291I really wish DP would become standard for everything. HDMI fucking sucks
>>106784291A MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF VIDEO WIRES!
>>106784291>Redpill me on DisplayPortThe REAL open standard, unlike HDMI.And with open standards you have typical issues with it, it's not as widely used as HDMI, so you have to buy separate wires and adapters. Everything for freedom I guess.
> still can't get DP working on my shitty graphics card with linuxI still can't figure it out, probably the one issue I have on Linux but it works fine on windows
>>106784291> Display portNo audio? No thanks.>HDMIShit>USB CBased
>>106784291Fuck dp, redpill me on dvi. I have a dvi-to-hdmi cord for my media PC and it's outputting 4k@60hz with audio. Both of those are supposed to be impossible.
>>106784291HDMI Redpill:Insecure protocols let people snoop easily. DisplayPort is better because it doesn't have that vulnerability.
>>106784291I could be completely wrong but I think DP cables disconnect monitors when they go to sleep so windows rearrange all to the first monitor. Could just be general Windows shit though.
>>106785240> No audio? No thanksWRONG.
i thought this shit was obsolete are they stillmaking it?
>>106785711DP is superior to HDMI in every way, and it latches.
>>106784291Well gpu got one hdmi and 4 display port so i'm kinda forced to use. Aside of shops have like one expensive brand of dp cable suck ass
>>106785240>sending audio to shit built-in speakerslol. lmao even
>>106785770Jokes on you my plugged in speakers are shit too.
>>106784291I don't have a problem about the display port and sound with my AMD Radeon Rx580 on my Linux PC. I can plug and unplug whatever I want and works just fine
It's more annoying to removeIt's harder to find cool monitors with DP 2.0 than it is to find HDMI 2.1 monitorsI guess uh, on AMD + linux it's better? And the HDMI forum is full of people with small clits?
>>106785642You might be right. At least it happens in my case and the second monitor is connected through DP caple.>>106785240Didn't know that. Like I thought it could send through audio too.
>>106785642they do, very annoying for diy remote control shit when the display turns off due to waiting on something and the thing disconnects you
>>106784291Not proprietary like HDMI
>>106784898Works fine on my i5 with built-in video>>106785240DisplayPort does audio just fine on Windows and Linux
>>106784291DisplayPort has higher bandwidth than HDMI or USB-C and it's an open standard, so on desktop you will almost always use a DisplayPort cable.
>>106784291Its the replacement for DB-15 (VGA), SCRAT and DVI connections. Displayport is designed for computer peripherals. HDMI is the replacement for myriad of A/V connections and is tailored for A/V ecosystem. The only reason it exists on some computer monitors is because they share common production lines with small HDTVs. "Computer monitors" just omit the TV tuner.
>>106787079> On some99.99% of new computer monitors have display port and GPUs usually have several display ports and only one hdmi
>>106785642This is how sleep mode for computers is suppose to work in the first place. Previous interfaces never did it correctly. This led to perception that "disconnecting" is wrong. The whole moving around and resizing are just ancient bugs and QoL issues of ecosystems that never bother to wrestle with dynamic monitor and resolution setups since it is still a niche use case.
>>106787098Finding HDMI input ports on computer monitors you idiot not the outputs on GPUs. The HDMI ports on GPUs are a holdover for A/V outputs (S-Video, RCA, component) that higher-end SKUs use to have.
>>106784291plug it up your ass and tell us
