I have to look down at the keys.
>>
Have you tried practicing?

Took me like 2-3 weeks as a 12 year old.
>>
>>106789591
Just touch the keyboard it won't harm you, trust me
>>
>he doesn't Quiet Aunt Zelda
lol

me neither, I just guess
I mean I get it right most of the time, but I don't 'know' where the keys are, I'm just familiar with the motions to make words

>as a 12 year old.
This is the key.
It gets harder the older you get.

Typing courses should be mandatory on all schools.
>>
>>106789691
Too late now that keyboards are depreciated.
>>
>>106789691
I had typing courses for 3rd and 4th grade, every week we had to spend 30-60 minutes on the computer in the classroom doing typing games.

Then the summer before i entered middle school my mom paid for me to do a 5-week typing "camp" (basically just summer day-care with a focus on typing lessons throughout the day).
>>
How did you guys learn to touch type?

I had a touch typing class back in year 3 of secondary school in '00 or something.
I remember the first lessons being typing 'f' and 'j' over and over to learn hand placement.

mavis beacon now, the bumps on the `f` and `j` keys are there so that you don't have to look. They have blank keyboards if you can't help yourself

Oh yeah, I also spent the next ~2 years of my life playing D&D Online, which while being one of the early games to adopt party voice chat, I didn't have a mic so i had to type very quickly during quests/raids.

bullshit excuse to not put in the time

The solution is obviously to score every key except f and j so they feel different.
>>

>wear down f and j key nubs
I have dished keycaps, and the F and J keys are slightly more dished than the other keys, so you can index easily without any nub at all.
>>
I type in a non standard way despite being able to use the home row.
You may have seen me post it before.

How? What kind of ultra shit keyboard do you have?

That gif is making me feel real empathy.

its gets harder to override the improper muscle memory if you spent years typing the wrong way vs never having used a keyboard before and developing your muscle memory from a clean slate.

>bullshit excuse, again
dont learn it then

I learned touch typing in my late 20s by putting electrical tape on all my keyboard's keys and making a keyboard shortcut for opening a picture of my untaped keyboard in case I really couldn't find a key. Took about two weeks to get used to it and mostly accurate. Took about a month to feel uncomfortable going back to my old typing habits. Took about three months to effortlessly type over 80WPM with 100% accuracy.

For the first couple of weeks you can buy an extra shitty 10 dollar wireless keyboard that you keep in handy for when you absolutely have to type fast, using your shitty typing habits. Obviously you should avoid your old habits as much as possible, but as long as the majority of your typing is done using correct technique, you will gradually move in a better direction. You can set a rule for yourself to at least do 100% of your non-urgent typing (web browsing, shitposting) on your taped up keyboard.

I insulted people in Warcraft 3 public chat.
You learn how to type really quickly when you're fighting other 10 year olds
>>
>>106789691
Excuses, otherwise retarded. Actually, retarded either way, but fuck you for spreading this bullshit myth.

This motherfucker's telepathically typing and still complaining. When did this board go to shit?
>>
It took me ~1-2 months of ~1 hour practice per day to get back to my original WPM (~50) with correct typing form after 10 years of typing improperly. Now I type at ~100 WPM without ever having to look at the keyboard and make far fewer mistakes. It was worth it imo, especially if you work with a computer, it's also helped a lot with wrist and finger pain due to better form.
>>
>>106789574
Me neither
I still manage a good 75 wpm so it's not an issue
