Cut out most corporate bullshit slowly but surely and haven't seen ads in a long time.
I'll occassional go over to my father's place and watch cable only to be disgusted by it.
The answer though OP Is yes. It's all about advertisement and commodifying your data. This is the natural conclusion of runaway corporate capitalism.
