The internet was unironically better when it was slower.
>>
>>106811215
Sure but it wasn't better because it was slower. Its slowness kept normalfags far from it.

Why didn't you uncheck "log onto network", faggot. It does literally for a PPP internet connection and is only used if you're logging into a Windows network remotely.

Source: I did telephone tech support for dialup ISPs, and I told every single customer who called to do this and it sped up their connection time. Otherwise it literally has to wait until it times out!
>>
>>106812845
*literally nothing.

I bumped my head earlier.
>>
>>106812845
I’m using 86box’s modem emulation and this is the only way it works.
>>
I disagree. The peak was when most people were on broadband internet but social media hadn't taken over yet, early to late 2000s. Dial up era was shit in comparison.
>>
>>106812890
>86box
What's the server like on the other end? If it is just using radius authentication it shouldn't be needed.
>>
>>106811450

this is true
it took my dad a week to download Jazz Jackrabbit 2 for me. then I played nothing but that for a year or two. now I have so many games, yet its so hard to actually get into something.
>>
>>106811215
Downloading porn pictures on 56K was wild. Like playing a scratch off lotto ticket every minute or two since most pictures didn't even have thumbnails. Just a text link.
>>
>>106811521
This but unironically
>>
>>106813110
yep. and I remember when Napster came out it took 3-4 hours to download a 3 minute song on dial up. zoomers have no idea what the fuck they are talking about, slow internet sucked ass
>>
>>106811215
Back in the 90s, If your browser crashed, it usually crashed the entire system. Windows XP was a godsend.

huh, I've used dialup from '94 to the end of '03 and I never knew this

It uses SLIP.

What you mean to say is: The internet was better when it was populated by middle class civilized nations.
Which is factually correct. The only time i ever see anyone browsing porn in public on a phone its always an arab or a jeet. Without fail. Every single time.

he probably uses Firefox (a formerly popular, very slow browser that used to be the best browser, isn't the best browser anymore but some people think it is because they're out of touch)

I always think about this, what the world will be like, if internet access becomes slower and more expensive and the absence of smartphones, that in itself will make normies not interested in using the internet
>>
it was shit.
>>
>>106811215
For me, it was a time of pure, innocent discovery, I was around 10 years old at the time. Despite being poor, I had access to computers early on. Installing Win 95 and basic software on a new computer was a big event. Seeing a computer being repaired brought me pure joy. I would lose myself for hours on end trying to fix things. Connecting to Dialup was like waiting to be transported to a new dimension. 56kbps, dat modem sound... HTML & CSS were a big deal for me. I got into graphic/web design at 13. By 20, I was doing web dev on a LAMP stack, at that point, I had access to 256 kbps DSL. My parents were skeptical... they thought it would lead nowhere, they just wanted me to get a job that "paid the bills" (their bills). By 24 I left my shithole country. I don't know what my life would be like without the internet. I will always cherish the moments captured in OP's video.
>>
>bandwidth is cheap and home computers are more powerful then ever
>noooo I must pay $30 a month for a cloud VPS to host my blog instead of self hosting
>>
>>106814456
I don't know where you live, but ISPs in my area made it impossible to host anything.
>>
>>106814506
I live in a first world country where I can pay $5 more for a static IP and unlimited access to my personal router settings.
>>
>>106811284
I did. Soul dies on the altar of convenience. Technology and Internet as a whole would not have advanced as much as it did today if Internet speed was capped at 256kbps, but I think that's a good thing. Just like having a walkable rustic town is better than an efficient car centric city with 20 floors apartment blocks and mile long malls.

Of course as a kid I craved both the hustle bustle of the big city and faster internet, but now I know better.
>>
>>106811215
That's because internet is an inherently a bad idea and corrosive to the fabric of society. So yes, it was better when it was worse and more limited.
You should have to pass an IQ test with a minimum of a 120 score to get an internet license.
>>
>>106811215
FUCK no. You were not there, you will never know.
>>
>>106815190
I have to agree with this... a sort of "internet license" (NOT some ID bullshit) delivered by wizards.
>>
>>106814730
Why would you ever want a static IP for home use? You sound mentally unwell.
>>
>>106815277
Server use.
Personally the way I serve stuff now is port forwarding on a vpn this way my is doesn't really know what I'm hosting and my static ip is not exposed
>>
>>106815277
it guarantees you won't randomly be affected by some random faggot's ban
>>
>>106815277
If I was mentally unwell, I'd be afraid of having static IP at home.
>>106815511
I'm not affected by some random faggot's ban either.

Feels weird seeing someone who has to be over the age of 50 unironically using a Satania pic.
>>
>>106816132
I bet it does, covid anime larpfag, but some of us always enjoyed anime and don't have a false idea of what it is and isn't, fuck off normalcattle.
>>
you're confusing your life being better because you were a kid who leeched off his parents with the world itself being better

you just turned out a jaded failure and you are projecting that onto technology, the only hobby you have and what you use as a substitute for having an actual personality
