Post some Linux distros that feel like old-school Linux
q4os
Debian+Xfce
>>106814172>q4osthat dont look oldschool, i mean like knoppix
>>106814193>Xfceno lol fuck xfce
>>106814201:(
>>106814197Q4OS Andromeda, Trinity, live - 64bit / x64 ... 1727M MBytes ... setup guide
>>106814232THAT DONT LOOK RETRO FUCKIN ZOOMER
>>106814243it's literally what op is
>>106814243it's TDE, which is KDE 3.x... the rest is just theming. you can grab a theme and apply it yourself. if you can't just go use the classic theme on win7 and get viruses you cuck
OpenBSD still looks like this by default.
>>106815488cuck license
>>106814102You can make KDE Plasma look like that. Kvantum allows for application styling too. Check out KDE Store / pling for themes. Irixium, Commonality, Commonality Sol
I don't see why kde keep breaking their desktop right after they make it stable enough for daily use
with new qt version i meanin hindsight tde did the more sensible thing
>>106814102zoom zoom
why not pick an agnostic distro and install a "nostalgic" WM?like windowmaker or openbox or maybe even cde if it's still a thing
>>106817689How do I install that on Debian 13?
>>106817945iirc the package is called wmaker, then you switch at the login screen
>that mix of bitmap and vector fontsVGH
>>106814102>linux with twin windows managerthat's old school, if you can get it running
>>106817945just, apt install gnustep .I use that
I don't even care if it looks retro or old or whatever, I just want it to look practical and that includes 3D shaped buttons etc (like in this pic >>106817689) and less flat garbage
>>106814193>Xfceannoying as fuck to use
>>106820663You can theme current Plasma and xfce into that.
>>106817689>alfredo kojimaimajine being a chink named after a type of pasta
>>106821177How.
>>106821263Plasma theme manager can download and install themes automatically https://store.kde.org/p/2138468On xfce you have to do it manually. People like Chicago95 there https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95
>>106814102QRD on a bunch of things in this pic?Are they using Wine for those MS programs? Can I get a DE that looks EXACTLY like this or is that version of KDE le deprecated
>>106817689windowmaker looks good in screenshots but feels like ass to use. The dockapps are cool for a few days then their novelty dies off as the rest of the desktop feels like ass to use with the separated dockapps/window buttons/pager system. Not to mention good luck finding anything that actually looks native cause nothing is built with the windowmaker toolkit
>>106815488only zoomers who have never installed an os and selected every package they want to install manually believe this
>>106814201>>106820715Skill issue
>>106821978stf faggot
>>106817689There is the nscde project if you want modern cde
>>106823412i have that in my debian and is the better choise
>>106821288Problem is KDE theming is KBroken and inKonsistent. Even Cinnamon has better theming.
exist any project to revive old kde???
>>106821821This was always the issue with Linux im the first place: everything is frankenstein'd together. It is still a huge problem. If it's not the widget sets then it's the fonts...If you take a look at Irix for example, it only uses motif and it's beautiful (to some) but at least it's consistent.
>>106825544Trinity for KDE 3, Katana for KDE 4.
>>106825708i try to install TDE but i only get errors
>>106821821came here to say thisnscde and windowmaker are too different compared to modern DE that makes it hard to use on a daily bases if you haven't grown up using itthough real retro elitist don't need an X or wayland server. Who needs videos when you can just watch the telly ? Who needs compatibility with government services when you can just show up in person ? X and wayland are just readily available slavery
>>106825564not saying you're wrong, but i also feel like that's more of a vapid, superficial take than a functional critique.i've never seen that opinion and immediately not thought, "it's more important to them that all their tools match than actually using them".
>EVERY Linux theme that tries to emulate 9x Windows>no fucking exception
>>106829425the zoomies using them won't notice the details
>>106829352uncanny as fuck and literally just looks like a non passing tranny. Nothing about the title bars or GUI's themselves look even remotely similar to win 9x
>>106825544Gimme that pape.
>>106829352looks horrible
>>106817689>why not pick an agnostic distro and install a "nostalgic" WM?OP doesn't know how to install anything. he wants something pre-configured by a tastemaker
I know I keep asking this and spacing out on actually doing it, but are there any retro style themes for cinnamon?
>>106814243ootb, but it is just kde 3.5 at the end of the day, and can be configured to look like op's pic.
Nop
>>106829352This is so bad it's almost amusing
is there any actual advances in desktop UI design that isn't just copying mac and windows AND is not ass to use(looking at WMs).i wish there was some kind of a 3rd option
>>106834212I liked Haiku and even ran it for a short time on my main PC. The UI allows tabbing so you can snap 2 different programs together into 1 window and change between them with tabbed titlebars
>>106825708is xfce fuckin iriot
>>106833712i need that
>>106827181Fix your llm bot.
>>106829425except gnustep
>>106829352Trannycore
