i put ublock origin onto my dads computer. do you use your tech knowledge to improve the life of your parents?
>>106815699yes because I'm a good son
>>106815699My in laws use mac, which i don't even know how to turn on, and my mother doesn't have a computer, which is a bit perplexing because she's a nurse practitioner prescriber. I couldn't help them even if I wanted to. I do fix their tvs when they get stuck in Spanish caption mode or whatever somehow.
Back when i was still living with my parents I set up pihole on our network. My mom just complained about NOT getting ads anymore.
My black friend found a windows 11 laptop but it was password locked>reinstalled windows 11 with local account using the disable networking trick and saying no to everything>moved start menu to left, deleted all the gay links>deleted edge from taskbar and start menu and desktop, installed BRAVE (with ublock)>disabled cortana, disabled cloud shit>installed 7zip and made default>installed VLC and made default>added qbittorrent with search engine, downloaded 'Total Recall' and placed in his videos folder>changed wallpaper to a tasteful, dark texture
I did but it's been uninstalled by chrome when the manifest upgrade happened.he hasn't found ads unbearable enough to ask me to fix it. I don't know how boomers can withstand ads.
>>106815699Yeah, I installed Debian on my dad's PC. He hasn'r had to suffer with winbloats for years now
>>106815748>black friend>found>password locked
>>106815699Microsoft kept nagging my grandfather to upgrade his ancient rig, so I did by installing Mint and ungooglrd chromium (with uBlock), its faster than ever and serves his need well.
>>106815699I tried once years ago and my mum nearly had a mental breakdown because her Facebook games didn't work with the ad blocker on, I never helped them with anything like that again. They do use my Plex server though and text me their tv show requests
Back in the day it was pretty easy to get malware in windows if you just clicked through shit. It still is I guess, but everyone 30 and up remembers seeing someone with 15 search bars in their browser because they just clicked 'yes, yes, yes yes' when installing some programUbuntu was a solution for them. Because linux doesn't actually have software, they can't get tricked into installing this shitI only saw ONE person who managed to fuck windows 10 up so bad I had to reinstall the whole OS. His name is John last initial A and he's a fucking retard
>>106815699When I was a kid, my father used to request the PC at the most inopportune times, like after dinner when I was playing MMORPGs. I missed so much online clout thanks to that, so twenty years later I still make his life a living hell as revenge.
Based. I did the same thing with their chrome many years ago and told them i upgrade it to google ultron.
>>106815699you were watching JBlows twitch stream, weren't you
>>106815699I installed Linux all for my friends and people at work and now my personal IT support tickets did go from 47 per week to 2 per month. People also like that most of the features just work without buying debloating and tinkering with regedit, command line, group policy, random msi and exe files, task manager, device manager etc. They also like automatic updates that are not forcing them to reboot and how stable their PC is now. Also how I changed Brave to Librewolf and now they think internet is faster, finally no ads get through, no risk of Brave stealing their money or doing MITM and their whole internet traffic doesn't go through Brave's servers. One guy liked Brave and Windows because there is over 2 million transsexuals and over 300 million LGBT devs there and now with Librewolf he doesn't like the "nazi" fascist devs and I explained that the right wing politics is not bad and he will not see that in the actual browser experience. He said something about how nice it is that Brave gives 16 million dollars per year for the LGBT and Librewolf doesn't but I just said that he can give his own money to the LGBT if he cares.
>>106815741>My mom just complained about NOT getting ads anymore.i think boomers like ads. they feel something missing when they haven't seen an ad all day
>>106816198>artistic works of fiction
>>106815699i put ublock origin on my dads computer and got pissed because it blocks the visitor counter and other widgets on his blogspot page
I install ublock origin on everyone's computer. Some people manage to uninstall it and then come to me again complaining about viruses (the ads they start seeing again).
setup streaming alternative for my parents that I won't name because it makes people on /g/ seethe apparently Bought my parents a minipc. They were using an all in one computer my mom got on sale from Costco
>>106815699My brother install GNU/Linux Mint on very old parents notebook and i install antivirus and set up some secure DNS on it. Also i install antivirus on all parents android smartphones and tablets.
>>106815699it over, now I get yt ads in firefox even with ublock origin
nah i tried to put ubuntu on my mums computer but she just got drunk and angry when i told her about directories.very drunk every night and she just wants a normal computer.it's my fault she's unable to understand and my fault she feels so ill.
>>106815699>do you use your tech knowledge to improve the life of your parents?
>>106815733>she's a nurse practitionerThat right there explains it.
the main reason i use plex is because its easy for my parents to use and i was fed up of them paypigging to (((streaming services))) when i can just download it free. I put ublock on my dads laptop without telling him because he was getting boomer rage at youtube adverts (Which to be fair, are awful).
