>I expected more from the new logo
Totally agree.
The old logo is so iconic, and the new one looks like Ai generated clipart. Not even the color makes sense.
The logo was never the problem, and especially not after they "flattened" it, to make it look less like something from the 90's.

There's actually so many people who have made awesome new designs for the logo, such as picrel, where a guy (seemingly unprompted?) made an entire visual identity overhaul.
How we ended up here, so far from the original source, is still a mystery to me.

That being said, it seems the devs are still taking in suggestions, so go and voice your concerns there I guess.

>I hope we can find people to do the same with Gimp and Inkscape.
This would be a dream come true.
GIMP has so much potential, but is suffering from the same issues as Audacity; dragging around old code in every update.

Somehow I actually think it would be good if GIMP was bought by a big company, just so they could finally steer in the right direction.
I wanna see GIMP be an OpenSource alternative to Photoshop, and not just another image editor.

it's funny how some things were destined to be first, and others to be last. and by this mean those who make the beginning of something and those who make the end of it. in gimp's case, what they spawned wasn't an image editor, they wanted to make an image editor, but there wasn't a good gui toolkit for that in linux back in 1995... so they made their own, to compete with the proprietary qt and motif... called gimp tool kit (gtk). this in turn resulted in someone forking that (gtk+) for use in making a fully-free desktop environment (gnome), and nowadays gimp doesn't even keep up with gtk+ versions.
it's funny how gimp's biggest contribution was not even what it set out to do. though thinking about it, i can think of several other things which ended up like that

They're changing logo for their new "Audacity 4", which is the entire app rebuild from ground up, with a much newer framework, and many new features/workflows.

There has been a lot of redesigns of their logo in the past, and with this new relaunch, many talented designers has come forward to pitch in.
Here's some more suggestions, which I find really nice and pleasing, whilest keeping true to the original logo. Something that can not be said about the red one, which they've temporarily used.

We ended up here because Muse Group hired an outside designer to make it match their other logos. The new logo seems to be based solely on fitting into the lineup.

>Gimp needs a layout overhaul. Functionality wise it's fine

i installed gimp 3.0 specifically because i was told it added an outline text tool, and when I used it i discovered it's basically an "inline" tool and does the exact opposite of what anyone would want. gimp is just another one of those shitty FOSS programs which is maintained by coders who don't listen to users or even use it themselves

Yeah that's beyond retarded, but what's arguably even more retarded is that they actually fucking have a proper outline tool, it's just under filters as a drop shadow. If you set the position to 0 0 and blur to 0 the drop shadow functions as an outline, and yet they still decided to do the inline shit. It's maybe one of the most anger inducing design decisions they've made for me

You should really go and watch the video from one of their development leaders. It gives a lot of insight into why they're doing what they're doing.
https://youtu.be/QYM3TWf_G38

Basically it boils down to them still dragging around a ton of of code written 20 years ago.
Since the code is so convoluted, you end up breaking completely unrelated things, when trying to implement something new.

He also touches on this whole "old users vs new users" dilemma.
To you and me, Audacity looks and works great. But that's because we've grown used to it, and all of it funny little quirks.
To a new user, who has never seen the program before, getting started with it can be completely overwhelming, since there are so many buttons and settings and menus and submenus. Just dragging around a clip requires you to know the program, and it's intuitive at all.

Again, feel free to watch the video above. He explains a lot of things, and showcases how they're solving these issues, so that the program is both familiar to old users, as well as being welcoming to new ones.

Most egregious is probably that they charge to download most filetypes from their website, that they have absolutely no rights to.
When open source devs made workarounds, they both sent lawyers after them and actively tried to ruin their lives.
Muse group gives zero shits about open source and only touts it when it earns them good advertising. Of their properties, only musescore and audacity are open source, and likely only because they started that way before acquisition.
