Windows 10 will die in one week. How do you prepare /gee/?
>>
I've been using Windows 11 Enterprise since less than a year after it released. Just run WPD and O&O like you did on Windows 10 and it just works.
>>
>>106817824
Windows 10 LTSC versions do not all have the same end-of-life date; the support duration depends on the specific LTSC release. For example, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 ended support on January 9, 2029, while Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 ended on January 12, 2027, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 will continue to receive support until January 13, 2032

Fedora KDE is another good one but you might one to start with Mint.
Zorin is a guilty pleasure for me. Many anons don't like it but I've found it to be really good idk why. Your call between Mint and Zorin.
>tranny drama and faggotry
you don't have to engage with any drama. Just use the software for what you need it and be done with it.
>linux wine proton
yeah, start with Steam's proton to play your catalog and see what runs well and what doesn't.
>dual boot or keep w10 for gaming
I'd restrain from dual booting on the same drive.
What I do is this:
I have a drive exclusively for Linux which I use for general stuff like browsing, writting docs, most of my work can be done on Linux. This is my main and default boot drive.
Then I have another drive with W10 IoT LTSC that I use only for gaming, VR, and the odd program I'd need that can't run on Linux.
This way I don't have to sacrifice usability and utility.

There are minor drawbacks because the installation is barebones. The features differences between Enterprise IoT and Enterprise are minimal (the Meet Now icon on the taskbar being one, but that's something you can remove easily with privay.sexy). Otherwise, neither of these come with Microsoft Store, which means a bunch of stock programmes like the default photo viewer are not installed. But, again, reinstalling Microsoft Store and getting all those apps back is a piece of cake.

Remove Meet Now:
Install Privay.sexy, Go to REMOVE BLOATWARE > Remove "Meet Now" icon from taskbar.

Reinstall Microsoft Store:
simply type "wsreset -i" into CMD

Also I should add, opening chrome is FASTER in XFCE linux than windows 10 and searching as well. The browser is much snappier. The desktop is faster, the file manager is faster and almost instantaneous loading/switching folders, the ram usage is lower.

I'm using 1.1GB on boot and thats with all the bloat mint packs in.

3gb on average with steam, chromium with multiple tabs and corectrl running at the same time and 1-5% of my CPU.

Compare that to windows with 3GB on boot, 5GB for the same programs and 10-15% CPU usage just running chromium and steam.

I held out for as long as possible but my SSD croaked. I tried installing windows 11 but it didn't work because I didn't have some safe mode setting or some shit like that so instead I thought "fuck it" and I switched to Ubuntu, and I got a say... I like Ubuntu

Hello, kiddo. I installed Windows 11 25H2 on an 8th gen just the other day. Please check your sources a little more autistically. Thanks.

I just grabbed the 25H2 iso from microsoft and spinned it up on my usb stick with rufus on Oct 1st, and did a clean install of Pro with a local account. I can't complain, it's pretty snappy on my 165hz monitor despite running a 10th gen cpu, it's pretty enough with the mica transparency/shading effect, and the core applications work for my use case very well and are auto-updooted like calculator, notepad, paint, photos, clock, gamebar, snipping tool etc. Much better than stuff pre-installed on Fedora 42. Feels very satisfying to be back on chromium based browsers and windows too because of superior text rendering, all eye strain gone, and games actually feel like they're built for the OS and just install with absolutely zero issues be it from GOG, or Steam, or Epic, or pirated, grabbing all the dependancies automatically and running perfect, gamebar is surprisingly simple and nice for taking pictures, videos, and benchmarking too. I'm enjoying it, helps that every niche mod for vidya works super easy too. I left W10 because of how ugly it was but W11 feels like W7 v2, home sweet home. It's a bit enshittified because of MS being desperate to get you into their ecosystem, but beyond the bing search in start menu search I don't have any other annoyances after simply uninstalling apps I don't need with a single click in the start menu like OneDrive, Copilot, News, Weather, 365, Teams etc.

So going from 10 to 11 isn't as bad as it seems?

After reading a confusing amount of forum threads and "solutions", I still lack understanding of how to choose the correct path if I want to keep my Win10. So let me get this straight:

>Windows 10 will end in a few days
>the official way is a one time payment of $30 to receive security updates for another year
>or you can download some magic, intransparent script from a random dude who made it some time ago
>the script apparently changes something on the deepest levels of your registry
>this should magically change your Windows to some version that will receive updates for much longer and you don't need to create a Microsoft account
>it is unclear if you have to enter a license key, but if you need one here's a generic key that should work
>it is also unclear if you actually will receive updates after October 15th when using this unofficial method
>the best confirmation is people who just write "it worked for me" without providing any proof
>all of this completely for free and done in minutes
>somehow Microsoft, the largest software maker in the world, is still oblivious of this one simple trick

>How do you prepare
by doing nothing and by telling everyone around me to do nothing
The way i see it is that as long at the win10 is above 25% of the windows market share, all they can do is threaten to withdraw support.
Kind of like they've been doing

Just keep using it, nothing ever happens (as long as you don't run anything questionable without manually scanning it first). My OS is always outdated by months because I can't be arsed to reboot.

There are much more things going on with Windows 10 than you can comprehend.
Microsoft would probably like to keep giving updates to consumer versions of windows but OEM pressure is as such they are being forced to not

Do you honestly think for a second Microsoft who otherwise gave anyone and everyone who had windows 7 and 8 free keys for 10 are going to be the main beneficiaries of windows 10 being EoL? No, the main beneficiaries are the OEMs who get to sell new hardware.
Microsoft couldn't give a dick about licensing, that's why they host the script for you to pirate windows on github WHICH THEY FUCKING OWN.
OEMs however internally are probably looking to not stock as many windows machines because they really don't want to support hardware for literally 15 years as every Windows 7 machine is also a Windows 10 machine
OEMs have to make sure their systems can still work with the massive amounts of different versions of Windows 10 that has came out.
Windows 11 allows there to be a cuttoff so OEMs can stop supporting this hardware.

MS however is giving people an out with being able to install other versions of Windows 10 that are going to be supported for longer for those willing to get into the weeds. The IoT versions have always had extremely long support times, way longer than consumer.
