Crazy how it ends distrohop for most people
It's the default version of Linux. Anything else is installed out of contrarianism.
>>106818385had to distrohop due to outdated GPU drivers lol
>>106818385And starts transitions
For me it's still Ubuntu
Does it? You can't even use a proper web browser on it without breaking the Debian guidelines. And its version of yt-dlp is multiple years broken. Not suitable for desktop use at all with the way software is developed these days.
>>106818385what's with the debian shilling lately. is it you with all the debianposting? i love debian on my mini pc servers but i haven't run it on my desktop or laptop since debian 9 and for good measure, shit gets too outdated for desktop use unless you like flatpaks or distroboxes or whatever the fuck. sure debian 13 is semi-fresh right now but give it a few months and it'll be stale as all fuck
>>106818443it was an interesting watch. watching him fart and do all that XD
>>106818385I have utmost respect for Debian, however Linux Mint provides everything I want out of the box without the need to install additional resources.
>>106818450just use debian sid. it just werks and is rolling release
>>106818540>rolling releaseno, it isn't. it frequently has weird broken git snapshot versions of packages in the repos just like Fedora testing, and several softwares are still easily a year out of date. Neither release nor rolling.
>>106818540just werks my ass. unless you have the barest, emptiest install, sid breaks more often in a month than arch does in a decade. that's why siduction is a thing, they make snapshots of sid at known good working moments because rawdogging sid is like gambling with your kidneys on the line
>>106818540even if it was RR, which it ins't, what the hell would be the advantage of debian sid over something like arch
>>106818560>>106818569did you use it once? I use sid for a year
>>106818580yes, i am a 10y debian user on server and for a shorter time on desktop. started with jessie when they started shipping it with systemd. my worst times were with sid/unstable. i tried siduction for a while and it was ok but raw sid, no way.
Between siduction, PikaOs, Aptosid etc which one is the best?
>>106818642aptosid is dead. siduction is alive but userbase is mostly in germany. pikaos is a new kid on the block and hasn't gained my trust yet. since you mentioned it, i assume you want something for gaymz. just go with one of the popular choices if so, don't dig too deep
>use apt-get to install something>ok I don't need it anymore, apt-get remove thing>prompts me to remove 200 packagesWhat the fuck
>>106818385true
Crazy how fucking nightmarish you can make the packaging of software for Debian.
>>106818450Strong opinion for someone who doesn't know how to install yt-dlp.
>>106818443not for long, 25.10 will break everything
>>106818453>sure debian 13 is semi-fresh right now but give it a few months and it'll be stale as all fuckThere's a new version coming out every 2 years so at most it's going to be 2 years old. Also you don't have to wait until the next one is released, you can just point the sources to that version. So let's say Debian 13 is now new enough to be used but after a year it's getting too old, you can start using Debian 14 in advance and just watch it getting more and more stable as the time goes on. If you use the Toy Story names instead of words like "stable" and "testing" it's going to stay on that specific version after testing becomes stable. Or you can just stay on testing the whole time if the stable version is never enough for you.>unless you like flatpaks or distroboxes or whatever the fuckThere's also Debian backports which pulls a certain package from Sid instead of upgrading the whole OS to Sid.
>>106818385yeah, i've tried them all, and they're great (i loved slitaz), but my default has been debian for a long while now.it jest werks

>>106818642>>106818681PikaOS doesn't directly use sid, they recompile packages with v3 instructions like CachyOS does. So it's an extra step removed. Not really trustworthy from my perspective.

>>106821556So true!
>>106818764>>106820081There's minimal install and full install that comes with default programs. If you install the full install and remove a program that comes with it, it might depend on your desktop environment and ask to remove all of that as well since they were all automatically installed. You can set something else to be flagged as manually installed so if that depends on your desktop environment as well, it won't ask to remove your DE since another program depends on it. An easy way to set a program to be manually installed is to just apt install it again. It doesn't install anything since it's already installed but it flags that package as manually installed for the future. The manually installed package can also be the DE itself. If you still have the same problem you should report it.
