Why would they do this? I just want a normal fucking full keyboard. I don't want lights, I don't want rainbow, I don't need it to look amazing I just need a full keyboard with nice switches, why is that so hard to find?

Recommend a full size 104 key switched keyboards pls.

NTA but I don't use Insert, Scroll Lock, or Pause, so I'm happy to remap that top trio of keys to volume keys, and moving Print Screen (which I actually DO use) down to where Insert ordinarily is. I do have the original keys mapped as layers in the incredibly unlikely event I need them.

CNC milled metal cases would be eye-wateringly expensive (a few thousand dollars). Injection molds would be orders of magnitude more expensive than that. There's nothing wrong with 3D printed cases, so why would I bother when the other manufacturing methods would either be far less flexible, far more expensive, or both?

In my view, the best solution to the numpad problem is picrel. It uses the NumLock key to switch between the regular keys and number keys. Shame it's not a very good keyboard in other ways.
But if you want an actual full size kb, Keychron makes a few, like the V6.
>>
>>106830172

Keychron V6 Max for me. Not bought it but wishlisted. Hotswap is a must, I almost killed my current keyboard by washing it with water and soap. Enter still doesn't press reliably. Also radio/USB-C.
>>
>>106827054
Yea I think so. I tried my old ergodox some time after switching to a dactyl and it felt weird how far the rows were from one another. For what it's worth I wouldn't want to switch back to a flat board.
>>

>What ways? It prints characters on the screen upon keypress...
I still have one too as a backup keyboard. Maybe I worded my post poorly... it's not a bad device, it's just that standards have risen since it was released. For example, I prefer using my Keychron V3, despite the inferior layout, because it's a nicer keyboard in various little ways. The keycap plastic is more pleasant to the touch and more resistant to shine; the stabilizers are tighter; the sound is nicer; the keys move more smoothly.

I got the Corsair K70 PRO TKL today (Magnetic Hall Effect switches) and I have no idea what is the point of the magnetic thing.
It's infuriating that it is missing the Scroll lock, pause break and print screen cluster and I didn't notice earlier.

Why is it so difficult to get a proper TKL design? the premise is that you dont miss any keys
>>
>>106830202
when you write or program for hours little things like feel and sound matter. faggot shit like lights and fakey blank keys don't. it goes back to navigation too, not taking your hands off the keyboard and yet being able to navigate the text or code is ergonomically superior to reaching out for the mouse like a caveman. it doesn't matter when you're a doomscrolling shitposting kid but when you're doing actual real work those little things add up.

Nothing, the factory making them has zero quality control, you legitimately get better fitment and build quality buying a reddragon and swapping out the caps for cheapest PBT doubleshot caps available.
>>
>>106822906
I don't know, man. If you want a full keyboard just get a full keyboard.

>>
>>106832341
it's just a cheap brand that's widely available, they're fine, if cheap and plasticky feeling, the price matches the build quality, unicomps are genuinely awful.

>>
>>106830172
The best solution to the numpad is to move it to the left, if you're right-handed and as such have a mouse on the right. This is quite rare in keyboards, but it's very easily achievable by just buying a regular tenkeyless keyboard and a separate numpad.
>>
>>106831189
>I have no idea what is the point of the magnetic thing
Maybe it's supposed to be more reliable long-term? I don't see why you'd care at all what the actuation mechanism on the switch is, as long as it works reliably for a long time (and mechanical switches already seem to do that).
>>
>>106832761
this is definitely a thing in scroll wheels and joycons. magnetic last forever mechanical lead to sticky/reverse wheel and stick drift in short order. I've never had mechanical keys wear out or fail, even after the letters wear off so idk if it's really worthwhile on key switches.

>>
>>106832779
I don't even know of any scroll wheel designs which aren't optical. I guess there might be some out there but I was under the impression that optical detection on scroll wheels was standard (which still stops working eventually due to dust & gunk building up in the slots the light passes through).

With analog sticks the problem is a bit different I believe. The "standard" design there is to just use potentiometers there, so you have a contact point sliding across some resistive surface, in order to read the voltage change which results from different positions. This can obviously wear out eventually. Keyboard switches though are far simpler usually, I mean typical mechanical switches just require 2 pieces of metal to touch, reliability isn't often a concern, at least not in my experience.
>>
>>106831197
Actually, it doesn't matter at all and those little things add up to nothing in reality. Nobody has ever missed a deadline or been unable to finish a programming task because of their keyboard. Ergonomics only matter to people with weak genetics, it's irrelevant unless you are born weak.

My new troon-sized keyboard I put together today.

To the anon who recommended Swagkey Knight V4 stabs, if he's here, I'll agree they're very good—with the caveat that he did a little overstate how good they are. I used some C3Equalz pads underneath because I decided to do a build with my Lichix silent switches to see if I could get away with it this time, and I think I did. At first I tried without the pads and the stabs slammed into the PCB (same as Cherry), so that wasn't going to work for a silent build. This was my first time using this and it helped a lot: https://swagkeys.com/products/c-equalz-stabilizers-soulmate (only used pieces 1 and 3)

I'm probably going to use those on all my builds from now on.

I did have to fill the stabs up with superlube like I would with Cherry clip-ins, but these are still a bit nicer, with a thicker wire that's properly straight and doesn't touch the PCB, no need to clip off any bottom feet, and the clear plastic makes it easier to see lube inside. A genuine improvement I think, but it doesn't solve the stab problem in general.

Hard to say whether this would sound good with normal switches, but I suspect that it would. The Lichix silent is not totally silent, you can still hear the character of the board a little bit. Still waiting for the battery to arrive from China, so can't say anything about the bluetooth performance.

Overall I'm happy with this little board. Also the reason left shift looks a little fucked up in the image is that it wasn't quite all the way down on the stabilizer. I checked just now while looking at the image. Oops.

Final build:
Cannonkeys Photon, recommended 8 gasket config (4 above, 4 below) with the lower-left cut in half so it's not too close to the spacebar
Lichix Raw Silent big-bump tactile (stock)
Swagkeys Knight V4 Stabilizers with 0.2mm C3Equalz foam pad underneath the stem, stems and housing contact lubed with 205g0 and otherwise filled with Super Lube 21010
XMI dye-sub keycaps (L9 Apple)
