What is the point of all the Discord """forks""" when all of them are just the web client in a shell?
Fuck they don't even do anything interesting wiht Discord visually, much less under the hood.
>>
Because Discord is by FAR the most dominant social platform among private nerds (no, stop, no one asked for your schizo shit no one uses) and since you're never convincing the unwashed masses to switch to something more private, and Discords API will never allow a proper reimplementation, the forks are pretty much as good as it gets.
>>
Better performance
Better security
Better sandboxing
Better resource usage
Works better on linux

There are also client that don't use the web client

Discord is super anal about third party clients and ban accounts over it
>>
Why not just use your own browser then?
At this point you're feeding your data to:
>Discord themselves
>whatever browser they happen to use to shell the Discord site
>possibly the developers too

I use vesktop cause of added functionality

Because being a web client was never an issue worth solving for 99.9% of userbaze
>>
the important part isn't what client you use, it's that you connect to the fed-run servers
>>
>>106827162
never got that after using it everyday for years
>>
>>106826652
literally no one has EVER been banned over it though

We're in web 3.0 where everything is a web client in a shell. The idea of writing a unique protocol is dead because there's no portability unless Chrome can run it

aarch64 user checking in
I use something called Legcord
>>
Vesktop is okay. I still hate discord but I don't have to face the godawfully long loading times of the vanilla app
>>
also discord is a faggot platform for pakis

I can't be the only one who had no idea there were Discord forks before this thread. What's the use case? I get the improved performance/compatibility part, but maybe I don't use it enough to notice any issues. Do these forks offer anything else?
