Is laptop made by System76 a meme?(as who have used Linux for 30 years)
>>
all these shit brands are going after programmer money, they inflated price not a good deal. like that framework bullshit
I wish for real linux shit, no nonsense no tricks no design bullshit no "theme" none of that. pure cheap linux open shit
>>
>>106826907
Just get a lenovo, it’s the lesser of all evils where it counts
>>
>>106826940
didn't they do some fucky stuff in regards to linux support, something about firmware bs or whatever
>>
>>106826907
Laptop market is stupidly competitive in terms of pricing so all System76 has to offer is borderline grifting.
>>
they use coreboot which could be a plus
>>
>>106826907
system76 make the Cosmic desktop environment which is written in Rust, so they are pushing for the enshittification of software. If you're a smart guy you won't support them. Thinkpads are better and have just as good linux compatibility.
>>
I bought a System76 over a Framework. No regrets. Just as repairable.
>>
>>106826907
They make Lunduke mad
>>
>>106826907
The only advantage I've seen that system76 has is you can change the EFI platform key without fear of bricking. Because they give you all the components of the final BIOS build. This is only relevant if you're worried about someone showing up to do evil maid attacks with Microsoft or system76 signed boot loaders. Otherwise it's just a Clevo.
>>
>>106826907
They just rebrand aliexpress laptops and expect lintroons to pay out the ass to support le hecking linux laptop. And they do.
>>
>>106826947
This >>106826952.

You need to be somewhat knowledgable about computers in order to be to assess their product line-up, yeah...
>>
>>106826932
>framework bullshit

but it has mix-and-match USB ports. isn't that the killer feature you've been waiting your entire computer-using life for? why would you want all the ports when you could choose just 4? where else can you buy a laptop with 4 ethernet cards? and thus unable to charge the battery because it has no usb-c lol

on second thought it's about as schizo as a typical linux "desktop" environment so i understand where they would get the idea.
>>
>>106826907
yes. If I want a really good laptop I would buy a macbook instead of system76
>>
>>106829101
ahahaha i just realized the framework "modules" appear to be usb-c dongles but in a proprietary hard case which makes them useless elsewhere. their ethernet port (which is just realtek USB 3 bullshit) sticks out of the laptop like a goiter. lmao it looks like a PCMCIA ethernet from 1998. lol whoever would voluntarily buy this must have a traumatic brain injury

Huh?
Also, looking at the Pangolin laptop, the only accessories I see are (ridiculously overpriced; it's a 'donation' in all but name, dummy) laptop bags and spare chargers.

>it's a 'donation' in all but name
For companies, who are allowed to spend lavishly on their own equipment.

As a commercial company, you can't _just_ make donations, for you can't _just_ mark them as expenses or similar.
But if it's an outright expense, it's an expense.
>>
>>106826932
>I wish for real linux shit, no nonsense no tricks no design bullshit no "theme" none of that. pure cheap linux open shit
Yes, no design. A thick and big laptop that you can repair like the old Thinkpads before they turned to shit.
>>
I just want a linux laptop as powerful as the M4 and with battery life as good as the M4 and no heavier or bulkier than the M4 and with a touchpad as good as M4 and with a display as good as M4

Is that too much to ask for?
>>
>>106826940
kys shill
>>
>>106829259
sorry i was talking about the framework laptop (equally shit). system76 has more than 10 customers? it looks like a generic chink laptop off aliexpress where someone loaded a crappy clone of macos on it. why would anyone buy this?

>up to 6 hours of battery life
lol
>>
>>106829353
Coreboot.
If that's not enough to sway you, move along.
(Unironically.)
>>
>>106829316
The macbooks are shit though and having a bigger laptop is good. You can't repair a macbook and you're stuck with the ram you have.
>>
>>106829368
is coreboot trannyware or is that the other one?
>>
>>106829383
So buy the RAM you need when you buy the Macbook. And Applecare is cheap.
>>
>>106826907
mine is extremely cromulent. notably, unlike a thinkpad, it doesn't feel like it'll disintegrate if I don't handle it just right. worst part is that it's a fingerprint/grease magnet, especially the track pad
>but the shitty DE
just install something else retards.
>>
>>106829420
Only crappelcucks think that that's a good answer. You want to be able to fix it and add more ram. That's very basic stuff but crappelcucks love to lick some crap so you don't get it.
>>
>>106829471
what the fuck are you repairing on your laptop? if it breaks you take it to the apple store and walk out with a new laptop. laptops generally have one huge board with everything on it, a battery, and maybe ram and ssd and a wifi card.
>>
>>106829420
Poverty mindset. The only people you pay in advance are hookers.
>>
>>106829539
>paying for what you need when you buy the laptop is poverty mindset
you also shouldn't pay hookers in advance. you negotiate price and service upfront and pay after or you'll get scammed. you're an idiot.
>>
>>106829539
lol check out the expert system76 user paying for hookers in advance. make sure to pay the big black guy in the hallway up front

This company used to reskin outdated Intel NUC models, mark-up the price 2X and remove all references to the NUC in their marketing/ads.
I don't know if they are still a noob trap but caution is advised unless you want to pay hundreds or thousands for a brand swap.
>>
>>106829608
>pay 4x market for what you may need 7 years later
>negotiate with hookers
what truckstop bathroom did you wake up in?

>>106829642
I have no use for either, but one is demonstrably less stupid than the other.
>>
>>106829667
7 years? that's the poverty mindset. i replace my laptop every 3 years. i also lived minutes from two different red light districts for over a decade.
>>
>>106826932
It's called "a three year old ThinkPad". Tomorrows cheap shit will never hold a candle to todays premium.
>>
>>106826907
>System76
For the prices they charge you could buy a historically overpriced brand like Alienware or Razer, slap Linux on that yourself and be left with better internal components and a (subjective here) nicer chassis.
If buying Razer for an aluminum chassis just make sure you slap an anime sticker over the logo so nobody gets the wrong idea, and don't use Windows with it or their bloatware will pillow your battery in two years.
>>
>>106829722
all the joys of a current year lenovo, but someone has already broken the exterior panels for you. nice.
>>
>>106829748
>but someone has already broken the exterior panels for you
Do you not take a closer look at what you buy? Normies are truly something else. Someone insert an asspulled <that's what makes the charm> normie pacifier sentence here.
>>
>>106826907
I used to get System76 laptops for work, but after the fourth one in a row had the battery swell up in less than 3 years of use, and IT couldn't get S76 support to answer their emails about a warranty repair, IT finally said no more
>>
>>106826907
They're ok but their support kinda blows
My company sent a desktop of theirs back like 10 times for a power supply repair and they kept sending it back with the same busted power supply. Literacy is not their strong suit, I guess.
>>
>>106826907
>>106829775
I should also say, I have a pang11 at home and the battery is fine, though one of the hinges broke after about 3.5 years
>>
>>106829787
the one time i sent something into applecare they sent me a comically intricate box to pack it in, and replaced it with a whole new device. it was 'refurbished' but i could not tell the difference.
>>
"hacker nerd" consoomers are so delusional that they will tell you are they aren't consoomers. it's all good, i'm a consoomer myself. i just don't know how many $500 split ergo keyboards and $2000 Prusa 3D printers and $1500 opnsense branded routers you need to buy before you admit it to yourself.
>>
>>106829840
yes. apple mails your a box with foam supports, a sleeve for the laptop, and a return shipping label for free. i got my replacement laptop within 48 hours. let me know when framework or system76 has this.

the whole point of system76, novacustom, or any other linux hardware is that intel ME is disabled. framework doesnt disable it afaik but you can coreboot/libreboot some thinkpads and optiplex PC's yourself if you dont want a glowie machine and dont want to pay the premium. or just get an m4 macbook air. 256gb storage and 16gb for $1k or get the m4 mac mini for $500
>>
>>106829862
but muh free initialization program

take notice none of the relevant open source developers actually use meme laptops. even RMS uses a greasy thinkpad
>>
>>106829913
has it ever been proven that the ME is a glowie backdoor? no.

these companies are marketing fear to drooling retards.

dell will sell PCs to glowie-type agencies only, with the ME disabled if they pay extra. convince me you need that level of paranoia and security. do you store the nuclear codes amongst your tranny and BBW porn collection?
>>
>the intel ME is spyware i must buy a special PC with it removed the glowies are chasing me
>buys any number of taiwanese motherboards with onboard IPMI, which is full of jeetcode that by default bridges onto the NIC with default passwords

intel ME paranoia is peak level neckbeard meme, knock it off with that shit
>>
>>106829709
You haven't internalized the temporal value of money. You may have moved out of the trailer park, but your brain still commutes there.
>>
>>106830021
The entire PC is a backdoor. Computers are made unreliable on purpose because it creates more jobs in computing and favors the security agency with the most resources.

You can criticize Framework for the pricing, abhorrent QC, or their shaky support system, but most of their hardware is available under CC-BY-4.0
