They'll never get rid of no Microsoft account mode. It's too integral to the is and boomers in the middle of nowhere won't be able to use it. It also has to support it for the use case where you're doing a clean install and there are no drivers for your wifi. Would lock you into setup forever if they didn't support it.

You say that but the last laptop I had couldn't cleanly reinstall Windows 11 because it didn't support the WiFi and would blue screen during the installation. I had to disable the WiFi in the BIOS to get Windows to install.
>>
>>106830363
Mind you if that OOB/NOPASSNO or whatever hack didn't allow the creation of a local account, then a reinstall of Windows on this laptop may have been impossible (since it didn't have ethernet and I doubt Windows supports networking over USB like Linux does).

As long as enterprise customers have any value to microsoft, there will always be at least one method to install latest windows locally and offline. People who call themself journalists can fearmonger all they want but its not going to change anytime soon. It might not be super straightforward to set up, but it will always be possible. A simple workaround like rufus gives you working, unjeeted windows environment, that will be infinitely better than troonix.
>>
>>106830715
They already kinda did with the HW requirements for windows 11. The require you to either directly pay for ESU OR set up windows backup which will most likely take more space than the free tier of onedrive allows, so you are forced to pay anyway. EU called Microsoft out, so no one in EU is gonna be forced to pay, but rest are.
Kinda fucked when you think that there are machines bought on windows 10 era that are incompatible with windows 11 and now you are being blackmailed.

Yes. Last time I installed windows I couldn't do it with an account because in the installer it asked me to solve LITERALLY 40 captcha in a row with a counter. If I got any of them wrong it would fail, but only after I had done all 40 of them. The captcha were also impossible to solve, it wasn't just typing characters or clicking on cars or whatever. It was some esoteric shit. I have to press a random key combination to bring up the terminal to turn off the required internet connection and to disable the required online account creation.

That was actually after they fixed OS breaking bugs that needed a complete reinstall and would trigger randomly.
Back when it released I tried using it and basically every single day I had to reinstall it because of the cortana bug that would make the OS completely broken and unusable forever.
>>
>>106829810

Windows users all know about linux, but for a variety of reasons do not want to use it. For each problem that exists with Microsoft, you find many more in the linux world. Not to even speak of the unavailability of software, recently, you had a GNOME guy rating about having “hitler particles” inside you if you wanted to use Omarchy. These types of mentally ill characters are not a rarity in the *nix world.

Windows users will simply find a work around and contort the system to working as it is needed. There are actually good reasons for the Microsoft Account, but for power users the option should always remain to stick with local-only.
>>
>>106832282
>>106832317
He claims to have "manually installed" pulseaudio. In my understanding, manual installation means from scratch, not from repos providing sane defaults adapted to distro.
If it works after "pulseaudio -k" than he definitely fucked up something in his load order. Manually. And he can either automate killing pulseaudio after every boot or investigate how to make it load later.

>>
>>106832374
Pulseaudio and PipeWire are both abstraction layers between software that wants to do audio and drivers that actually work with audio devices. Hierarchically it is similar to WASAPI or ASIO etc.
Normally, every sane distro has it in its repositories and you just hit a button in app store (or download a .deb or .rpm or whatever your distro uses) and it installs, but the underlying changes to the OS with or without pulseaudio are way more extensive than just adding some end user software or even a driver or service.

Also notable detail, he's using Garuda Linux - a literally who literally indian fork of Arch. On a laptop. I would not expect there to be sane defaults even in the repositories and preinstalled software.
