>>106842725This is the most clear-cut money laundering I have ever seen.I do get the appeal of having "just a digital typewriter" so you can focus on the writing part. But it should cost 20 dollars at the absolute highest.
>>106842725If it was a Psion and cost $100 I'd jump on it.
>>106843144>PsionSo much sovl....
>>106842725Why not just use a typewriter? They still make them, you know?
>>106842725Companies created a problem and will now sell you the solution. You fell for it, yet again.
>>106843164>Why not just use a typewriter? This. And their clickety-clackety noises are soothing.
>>106842725I use a $50 stinkpad running headless linux for that.

>Why not just write on my laptop? Well, here’s where my particular context comes in - I’m a professional writer who can more than justify spending the $250/$350 for a writing device, and I’ve become affluent in general and don’t need to worry about that expense. I am not a big gadget guy in general but when there’s a niche device with character I can become smitten, and that’s the case here. I’m also a major romantic when it comes to writing. And I have a specific use case for this thing: big sloppy projects where I’m going to generate a lot of text, have no need for quick turnaround times, and would always do a significant amount of editing on anyway. I’ve already mentioned a new book proposal (which is a long-term thing, not for shopping anytime soon), and I think I’m going to write my next novel with the Freewrite Alpha. I probably wouldn’t write a nonfiction book itself that way, due to my need to constantly research while composing, but who knows? Stuff that’s just for me is already naturally gravitating to the Alpha; I keep a scratch document open at all times for my insatiable need for big directionless documents into which I will pour ideas, lines that spring to me, early feeling-out of whether there’s an idea worth publishing somewhere, complaints about the universe, whatever. For that purpose, the Alpha appears ideal, and I will grab it when I want to write things that don’t at all constitute the day’s work.
>>106842725have a separate productivity setup on another desk, just get an old dell corpo windows laptop (or macbook if you're of that preference) and basic bitch monitor and mouse+keyboard or whatever.don't do gayming or mindless web browsing on your productivity station.
Cheaper to build a zerowriter (open source)

>>106842725For the price that thing better have an amazing e-ink screen and superb mechanical keyboard for a flawless typing experience.
>>106842725Feels like just disconnecting the internet on your computer would be enough, if not just get some cheapo / used PC to have it as your "productivity" computer and keep it offline. You'll still have a real, modern computer word processor available with far more functionality, that thing just looks like a novelty thing, the kind of product you buy because you think it's cool rather than it having some real, practical purpose.
Just install Linux without X on some old laptop, and write using Emacs or other terminal editors.
>>106845379This. Install goyo.vim and take the wifi card out.
Just install ghostwriter on a pre-chiclet thinkpad
Can't you still get an alphasmart for like 30 bucks?

>>106842725Why is the screen so fucking small?
>>106842725Can't even fully express how much contempt I have for this device. A piece of e-waste junk for LARPing as a writer.Actual serious authors were eager early adopters of word processors in the 1980s that were 1000x more capable and ergonomic than this thing. The idea of some jerkoff thinking he's Hemingway typing on this thing in 2025 when Douglas Adams and Stephen King and the like were eagerly experimenting with the frontiers of computing in their time is hilarious.
>>106842873Holy fucking shit literally just grab the first PC you see sitting on the side of the road and don't connect it to the internet. Costs $0.5 in gas or a few calories if you walk.

>>106849235Hello newfag! Welcome to our board/site! It's considered good netiquitte to not post for a while so as to absorb the culture and improve the overall posting experience. The common consensus is about 1-2 years of "lurking" is enough time for the average person to become accquainted with our posting style. This will let you settle in as well as allow you to accrue images, we often use them as accompaniments to our posts here. Now go out there and stop posting! I look forward to talking to you in one year, champ!
