I'm having trouble with my network connection. The connection is being received by my PC and smartphone, and the reception is strong, but I cannot access the web. It just times out after failing to load any page.

The interesting thing is one of my other phones can access the web. To be clear, the internet works fine, the reception is good, the password to connect is correct. But for some reason I cannot load anything.

I suspect the devices have been blacklisted for throttling the network once or something, I dunno?? Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?

is there any way to only enable vim plugins for certain filetypes? i want to only enable emmet-vim when i'm actually in a html/css/js file, but i can only see how to disable for specific types with automcd FileType.
i could just list all filetypes that aren't the above three but that feels unnecessarily tedious.
>>
>>106847487
and of course i find the answer right after asking
with vim-plug it's just
Plug 'mattn/emmet-vim', {'for':['html', 'css', 'js']}

>>
>>106847487
Also can't you enable them with an autocmd?
I know you almost certainly can with neovim, since plugins are generally loaded explicitly with require() so you just make an autocmd to require() them on the filetypes you need.
>>
>>106847715
now that i think about it yeah i don't see why not, could probably just reverse what's said here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3368184/disable-vim-plugin-for-certain-filetypes
either way i think the default method makes more sense since i'm not on neovim anyway.

Well, so far you had only asked whether it exists, hence my answer.
If you want to know how to do it, unironically ask an LLM, this is the kind of stuff that's too involved to explain in a single /sqt/ post but easy enough that modern top LLMs should have little trouble writing it correctly and explaining to you how it works in the process.
That is provided the LLM doesn't fuck up the extension APIs, sometimes they can one-shot perfectly the most obscure stuff but nevertheless other times they can fumble niche stuff and just not know how to do it properly. I would say one possibly very straightforward option might be a userscript that runs in violentmonkey or whatever for every page, and just scans all the HTML elements for your string, that has a very low chance of the LLM fucking up.

I'm trying to save the full resolution version of this image from Google Images.
Google says this image has a resolution of 6515x4343. However, if I select the image and go to "open image in new tab," the resulting image is 275x183.
If I follow the link associated with the image, the website "Travories Blog" is completely dead, stating "{"message":"Cannot GET /swayambhunath-temple-guide/"}"
If I reverse imagesearch this image that I want, all of the duplicate versions of this image are from the same dead website, "Travories Blog."
Is there any way I can get the full resolution image directly from Google, or that I can somehow get the image from "Travories Blog" even though the site is defunct?
>>
>>106848667
Thankfully was a personal choice. Checked the issues on vscode-jupyter and had to downgrade the extension to get the kernel running.
>>
>>106849434
I doubt you can. There's no reason for Google to host the original image, they only need the thumbnail, and seemingly also the original resolution value to display on top of it. You could try the internet archive and see if it has a snapshot of the site form when it was active
>>
>>106849570
I forgot to say that I already tried the wayback machine and that the website wasn't archived at all.
Oh well. I can live without the image, I had assumed Google wouldn't host anything beyond the thumbnails themselves anyway. Thanks still!
>>
>>106849570
>>106849637
I looked into it a bit more. I can't say I have good news, but it seems that the website travories.com still works, but their whole "blog" subdomain (i.e., blog.traveries.com) doesn't. This might indicate that they changed the website's structure. That is to say, the blog that the image is on is located elsewhere on the site. Though, I didn't find it, since it's difficult to navigate, especially if you don't have an account. Again, this isn't necessarily good news, just a possibility.

Every so often, after about a week or so of running, my Raspberry Pi that I use as a seed box and home samba server has its Internet connection completely fail, as in not even pinging 192.168.1.1 works. I've seen several forum posts about people having this problem, and I've tried everything from them (install NetworkManager, mess with dhcpcd.conf) but it still happens every so often. The only lead I might have is a journalctl log going something like "NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (smsc95xx): transmit queue 0 timed out". Of course, turning the machine off and back on again technically works, but I'd like it to be able to correct itself without manual input. Has anyone else had and fixed this problem?

Sometimes they desync (audio goes on, video freezes then goes very fast but never really syncs back), most of the time they skip (around 5 or so seconds, which then proceeds to desync).

I can't install windows 11 on my new NVME drive, I made a bootable USB with Rufus with the ISO from Microsoft and I boot the drive through my bios the initial install of windows goes fine but once it restarts to keep going with the setup it won't install. When it boots to the drive it just boots black screen then loops to the bios splash over and over. I have CSM disabled, I have AMD ftrm or whatever enabled. Nothing works....if I try to boot from the USB again it just says I booted from the installation media and gives me the option of restarting the installation or restarting. I updated my BIOS to the latest update, I don't really know what's going wrong. I guess maybe I will just try installing windows 10 but I know support ends in a few days. I still have my old SSD connected with windows on it, but that shouldn't matter as I kick it down to the bottom of the boot order.

I wanted to just clone my current windows 10 onto the NVME but apparently my 500gb WD SSD is so shit it's 512 byte sectors and my new NVME is 4096 and you can't clone them.

anons, I got myself a 2tb NVME enclosure and was wondering:

- Can I use it for two purposes:
1) a Portable Linux install that I can boot into
2) OUTSIDE OF Linux, an archive folder for storing files.

Essentially, would it be possible to "split" the nvme to two different purposes? What is the best way to approach this idea?

>>106853436
If you install it exclusively onto the drive it should work as normal, you may need to play with /etc/fstab if it has issues with a non-present drive

As a seperate partition
FAT32
exFAT
NTFS?
>>
>>106852604
>When it boots to the drive it just boots black screen then loops to the bios splash over and over
When this happens, open the boot menu of your motherboard and take a picture, the answer could be there.

>>106852832
I think you need to boot into that partition, which means that your current bootloader needs to have an entry for it. Unless you backed up the previous bootloader and its configuration, this won't be easy.
The simplest method is to download the recovery image from your computer vendor.
https://www.dell.com/support/contents/en-us/article/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/software-and-downloads/dell-os-recovery-tool
>>
>>106853436
Format the NVME with FAT32 and copy the contents of a Linux ISO image to it.
Done - you now have a bootable NVME and you can use it to store files.
You may want to create a 10 GB partition for this first, since using an entire 2TB drive with FAT32 isn't the best idea.
The second partition can be your data store.
>>
>>106853436
i haven't use it myself, but i believe this may be something where NVMe namespaces might come in handy
>>
>>106853618
>>106854166

Got it working, got the ISO on my USB, booted into Linux Mint and followed the install process for my enclosure, just had to be careful with names. Allocated 256gb to Linux Mint, 1.7tb free for formatting later. All looks good. Thanks!

Pretty please, help me fucking understand color management.
My MSI monitor (271qpx, QD-OLED) has a sRGB clamping color mode. Windows 11 has this ACM feature which does a similar thing. When both are enabled everything looks dull as shit. Novidia does this thing where if colors are set automatically, it switches to 10 bit color. I have to manually set it to 8bit which disables ACM (or disable ACM, which switches it to 8 bit, same shit). Apparently "stacking" these features is a shitty idea.
So what should I do? Enable ACM and just the normal user preset on my monitor? or use the sRGB preset and disable ACM?

pacman, arch's official package manager, does not support the aur directly. this is on purpose as aur packages are not official nor supported packages. they're submitted by users.
it's common practice to use an "aur helper" such as "yay", which can be used in place of pacman but supports the aur directly. an easy way to get it is to download the yay-bin package from the aur manually and install it with "pacman -U yay-bin.tar.gz"

I'm using Win10 and have a fairly small C drive (250GB) mostly because it was the first NVMe drive I ever bought, and then just decided to both keep the drive and keep the OS on a separate drive from everything else as I've upgraded my PC. I always have about 40GB of free space left, which is fine, because I don't use the drive for storage. Today, I booted up my PC and saw that I only had 7GB of free space left. I suspect Windows downloaded an image of Win11 in the background so it can keep pestering me to update. Is there a way to check to see if it downloaded it, and more importantly, is there a way to get rid of it?

Is an electric shaver worth it? I just nicked myself with my safety razor, just about had it.
>>
>>106863434
You can nick yourself with an electric too, depending on the model, but yeah, it's worth it, for a pre-shave, and then you touch up with one of those disposables that have the 5+ blades. I use Harry's or Dollarshaveclub after I use a standard trimmer (the same one I use to give myself a buzz-cut) and it works flawlessly. Naturally shave with the grain instead of against so you don't get ingrown hairs, and wash your face with warm water beforehand to open your pores, and then splash with cold water after your done to close them.
>>
>>106863434
It depends on your beard I guess, I tried switching to an electric shaver in university, but had to give up because it caused a lot of ingrown hairs, which doesn't happen with regular razors.

I use the same OneBlade since 2017 and would never go back. Shaving the armpits and balls requires great dexterity or using an adapter (usually bundled).

I wouldn't, the longer the system in on, the more stuff gets cached so you can open stuff faster. If you start freaking out just reboot the system.

Should I go for 9070xt or an nvidia card if I want to (sometimes) gen vector / icon images for docs/presentation? My budget hovers around $500, but I can save up to $1000. ROCm seems to be very unreliable otherwise I would have gone with amd.

I have this particular odd problem: In most(not all) games there is a noticeable stutter or unevenness when moving the mouse, like when looking around. It's not performance related, things run perfectly smooth otherwise, fps are high, even when the camera pans around like during an ingame cutscene, smooth as butter. But as soon as as I move the mouse to look around it feels like frames are being skipped. I tried the usual stuff like reinstalling drivers, various vsync settings, screen settings, even tried out different cables, updating mobo chipset drivers etc and nothing seems to have an effect. I suspect it has something to do with USB. Could there be some hardware defect with USB ports, mobo or stuff that could cause this? Or what else could it be?
>>
>>106864218
do you have it set to a low dpi?
is it wireless?
do you have vsync enabled?
what is your monitor refresh rate set to?

your description is rather vague, which is understandable since you don't know what the issue is, but it does make it hard to tell what the actual issue might be
>>
>>106864312
I tried various mouse sensitivities with DPI button on the mouse but forgot about the windows settings, I'll try if lowering that one helps. It's a cable mouse. Vsync is enabled(Gsync). Screen is set to max frequency, 75Hz(it's pretty old).
>>
>>106864404
another question, is this a new problem? what has changed since it was last working properly? (even if you can't imagine why it would matter)
>>
>>106864218
Something like that can happen if you have some retarded ultragayman mouse with an insanely high polling rate. Lowering it to something normal like 1000Hz will help in that case.

on ubuntu, selection + middle mouse click is a mini copy-paste which is pretty useful, but then i need to move my hand all the way to the enter key anyway to do anything with it e.g. in the command line.
pic rel is my mouse and it has a sensitivity adjuster that i never use, is there any way to change it so that it's an enter key? tried xinput but
xinput test
doesn't register it as a motion.
>>
>>106864418
Setting the DPI low in the windows settings then increasing polling rate of the mouse has helped and it feels better, but it's not gone entirely. Going any lower it becomes tedious to use.
Problem has been around since inmade the system, used to a HP prebuild which I rebuilt with a new mobo and PSU a year ago because it was unupgradeable and had a locked down proprietary UEFI.
>>
>>106864624
chances are the dpi button on your mouse is only used internally to the mouse and isn't actually a button your os can see
>>
>>106864693
so it has been a problem since you made the system, this leaves a lot of variables. what did you use before? most people don't change /everything/ about their system in one go. are you using the same monitor, mouse, os, etc?
>>
>>106864805

Peripherals are the same, main changes are mobo and PSU. The weirdest thing is that the problem is not even universal, but just affects enough games to make me think it's not actually just game specific but a system problem, and those games are fully playable but should be smoother. I actually have another system and the games do feel smoother there at the same refresh rate and vsync settings. I guess I'll try switching peripherals one by one and see if things change, because nothing else has worked so far. I kinda suspect it's either some obscure bug caused by my specific hardware or a motherboard fault, or maybe I'm just going crazy.

When was the last time you used a crossover cable? Are they even relevant anymore?
>>
>>106865398
quite some time ago. no, they practically aren't relevant any more. two reasons why; one, only one side of a connection needs to support automatic mdi-x for a connection to work regardless of physical cable crossover, and also, i believe, /all/ gigabit ethernet adapters support auto mdi-x, which these days, is pretty universal.
simply put, you only need a crossover cable if you're connecting a very old computer to another very old computer.
>>
>>106865398
>>106865485
and for reference, by "very old" i mean over 20 years old. even my 2005 hp compaq laptop has gigabit ethernet
>>
>>106865398
>>106865509
oh one final note, if you have one, you can still use it. the auto- part of auto-mdi-x works both ways, you can still use a crossover cable between two modern machines, it's just not required
