Can you guys recommend me a good printer for someone who uses Arch Linux and is into FOSS philosophy? I heard Brother Printers were good, is this true? Is any model alright?
>>
everything is now network and remote controllable "smart appliances" if your printer is automagicly able to accept scan/print jobs, they all speak avahi/mdns airprint/ipp

I have a brother and it works just fine with linux

What the fuck are you talking about? Speak English and explain all that shit you just said like I'm 5.
>>
>>106848572
he's saying any printer will do the job
>>
>>106848596
Is that safe though? Does it respect my privacy?

There's no FOSS printer out there. Look for features like AirPrint, IPP Everywhere or Mopria. Those are truly driverless.

https://mopria.org/certified-products

Brand doesn't matter really. New models that have wifi or ethernet should be one of those.

CUPS 3.0 is the future and that is driverless printing.

This is all you need to know.

You're too dumb to care about that.

iptables -A FORWARD -m mac --mac-source 00:00:00:00:00:00 -j DROP

Pretty sure I'm smarter than you.

FOSS philosophy and other well intentioned things just lead to a place in Norway

Just don't buy HP, you'll thank me later.

If it's "just a printer", then I agree with the anon who mentioned ipp / driverless. Pretty much any model is going to work.
If it's a "multi function printer", the kind with an included scanner, etc, you still need to check in advance if the drivers are available for the other parts.

~ $ pacman -Qsq brother
brlaser
brother-mfc-l2750dw
brscan5

But for the scanner, SANE is the name of the project to look into, there are several useful lists on their site. Manufacturers/models that are supported, but also there is a list of of models that are specifically not supported. Usually the reason is the driver contains non-free software, so you have to get it from the manufacturer's website.
For the model I have, there were already AUR packages with this stuff.

Can't quite remember why I have brlaser installed. Maybe it exposed some extra options, 1200dpi mode or something?

What's wrong with them?

That makes sense since retards usually have high levels of self confidence.
>>

I have that printer and it works well

None because when you plug it in, you'll need to spend 5 days trying to get it to work
