havent looked at the mechanical keyboard market in a very long time so I'm pretty ignorant, why is keychron discontinuing all their barebones boards that don't have a fucking knob, does anyone actually like or use these goddamned knobs
>>
>>106853515
I wish my keyboard had a knob, it's like you don't listen to music.
>>
>>106853534
I get that you can reprogram it, but I don't know, I already have a knob on my DACAMP, but I would never use it for volume control anyways since it's not program specific it will just turn everything up or down
>>
>NKG-2297
>no qmk
why do they use proprietary firmwares?
>>
>>106853515
I feel you man. I hate those stupid knobs
>>
>>106853582
I'd reprogram the knob to some unused f-keys (e.g. f15 and f16, and f17 for pressing it down) and set those as global hotkeys for foobar volume up, volume down, mute. That way there's no context in which they do not alter the music volume the way I intend.

The thing that makes windows volume controls useless is that they are unpredictably context-dependent and sometimes do nothing.

R8 my dremel.
Literally the only 4.5U PBT spacebar I could find was white so I had to find some set that works with both black and white for the rest of the case.
Also what should I do about the case and retarded 0.75U keys that are still disgusting ABS? Plastidip the case so it feels like old thinkpad exterior?
Cutting navkeys to fit would leave huge gaps on the sides. Opinions on mixing profiles? Would super low profile flat nav cluster and f-row work with the rest of the keys being normal profile?

I've lived a full life. I'm a virgin, I'm well over 30 years old, and I earn my living working from home. But when I am old and seconds from death (ideally), I know perfectly well what I'm going to be thinking about.
My parents. My friends. The pets I've had.
Hah, got you. I will think of my oneitis - GOT YOU AGAIN!
I will think of my parents, my friends, the pets I've had, and then I will think of the one thing that gave my life meaning outside of these people, these beings and the experiences I shared with them.
GMK.
That's right. GMK. I will think of the group buys I endured, I mean we endured as a community. Our shared suffering, our mutual misery, the pathos of not receiving my GMK Hyperfuse, the bathos of unboxing GMK British Racing Green R2 and finding all the keycaps in their proper place.
The joy of finding extras in a random Discord announcement after you missed out on a GB, the sheer bliss of holding a box of the finest double-shot ABS plastic that mankind has come up with. And finally, when I see the light, I will remember (verbatim!) my favourite product description of any GMK set ever (CYL FTRO)
>Is the future shiny? Is it chrome? Many may wonder, but rarely do we receive answers to such questions—until now. Through a garbled transmission from a date unknown, Earth of 2024 has been warned. Divert course; take back the joy of digitized input before the oppressors take over!
>Hard-coded into this message were the blueprints necessary to create a set of keycaps to aid us. Enlisting the support GMK electronic design GmbH and leveraging their techniques, this double-shot ABS keyset has been enhanced with UV printed APL operator sublegends. Take up the call with the ORIGIN base kit, or add some extra boost to your signal with the optional ALERT add-on kit.

>if I make my keyboard look like shit immediately, I won't need to worry about it looking worse over time
>>
>>106857903

Had it for 3 years, spacebar got so warped it bounced off the stabilizers if you look at it wrong. Only replacement was white or getting another of the same ABS set. PBT grain felt way nicer to touch so I decided to replace the rest.

I use gay Microsoft ergonomic keyboards but holy fuck is the gigantic wrist pad making my posture dog shit, especially in game dev where I'm using WADS a ton with long presses. Would a regular ass keyboard just be better for my posture at this point? T. Wigger
>>
>>106857939
Enjoy the smooth grain before it starts getting shiny in a few months. Plastic is plastic and all plastic shines when you rub it frequently.
>>
>>106857981
Use a keyboard drawer, old school style. Your keyboard is too high.
>>
>>106857294
It greatly offends my sensibilities.

I'll admit it's pleasant that the dark gray matches the gray of the board reasonably close, and the color scheme is attractive. The legends (where they are normal) are good, the caps don't show any warping or other failures to be uniform, the shined ABS with that profile is a good look. All of this I freely admit.

You can call it "autism" to have aesthetic standards which can be violated, but you would thereby relegate nearly all aesthetic criticism to the domain of the psychiatrists. I contend that it is healthy to have certain lines which, when crossed, produce revulsion.

I will never accept a violation of the purity of the alpha cluster. I will always be uneasy at a mismatch between a key's face value and its actual use. Etc. And I will always feel contempt for those who view these as personal eccentricities, and who think all is a matter of "taste", and "subjective", and arbitrary.

(This is me btw >>106854209 since I'm talking shit I might as well in fairness give you the opportunity to hit back)

tbf I use that one solely for COD so the shitty layout is alright by me. My regular work board has verdant retros with no modifications.
Also I like the unique Apple style font on your Photon, it looks weird but in a good way because it's consistent and the print quality is pretty sharp for such a small font.

>curing UV
You can just leave them in sunlight, but if you want a cheap curing station, get a UV led strip and tape it around a paint can or box, works just fine.
>cleaning and chemicals and shit
That's really the worst part of resin printing, it is a chore and it's messy, you need a good organic respirator, which isn't expensive (like 20 bucks?), but still a health hazard.
Again, if you don't want to mess with the stuff, you can always send the keycap models to a shop that prints them. Just be sure to print it in a durable resin or the keycap connector columns might be too brittle.

Here's a close-up of a failed batch I made recently for a prototype.

Can't vouch for it because I've never bought Vortex but this one with double shot PBT keycaps and Cherry MX2A Silent Red switches is $115 and doesn't look particularly flashy/desirable for theft, maybe a good pick I don't know:

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/products/vortex-type-wireless-hotswap-keyboard

Vortex themselves are allegedly a nightmare to deal with, so don't expect any customer support from them (as you wouldn't really expect with most Chinese companies), but in the case that it's defective it can be returned to this American vendor. (One of the advantages of not buying directly from China.)

Love it. Was very impressed by the Petrichor, the only AKB board I've tried, which was a gift for someone else.

It brings me pain thinking of the artisan keycaps and other bullshit other people are going to put on this board. It was made for unaccented Dolch, anything else is a crime. I'm not sure I'd even be fully OK with MTNU Dolch.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think the 65 xt layout on this one is more attractive. Not a better layout, but.

>fix the shitty manufacturing tolerances of every switch part by stuffing plastic shims in between each switch housing so they won't rattle even a little bit

To be fair the major players didn't make any improvements in design, especially manufacturing tolerances, for decades. Imagine if Cherry actually gave a shit about refining the MX platform instead of sitting on it for years.
MX2A is literally "new spring WHOOOOA", years and years after people were doing that themselves. Meanwhile some Chinesium switches have tighter housings and are better in other metrics for a fraction of the cost.

I've been doing this for numpad on my 65% and I'm surprised by how well it works. (My normal fn key is next to the arrow cluster, but since I use R3 control I have another fn key in the lower-left corner.) Getting used to the key locations is a little awkward because of the stagger, but now I can type my ○ — é etc. without serious difficulty. I'll have to practice a little more for it to be a serious alternative for fast number input, but for uses where the numpad keys were absolutely required at least I have them. I might try doing a custom monkeytype of numbers and operators to practice.

The idea of adding a tomatometer to the Netflix browser is so fucking funny though. Oh no, I can't decide whether to watch Sinners (2025) dir. Ryan Coogler or Eddington (2025) dir. O_O Jesus christ anon
People do other things at their desk other than type oh my fucking god

Here is a letter I wrote to Adrian this morning for being a sweety and an article I am going to scrapbook.

Honestly tell me I'd be better off with a 20 x 8 x 3 inch, Grey keyboard.

nta and colors are gay but what's wrong with large desk?
>>
>>106868389
I accept your concession
>>
>>106868411
The point is that having a large desk and a tiny tranny board is hilarious, especially when most of the coping from tranny board owners is "muh desk space".

No concession anywhere, just acknowledgement of sheer faggotry and larping, as I already knew and stated earlier. Thanks for proving me right.

Just copped a Cycle8 in Peacock that I'm gonna pair with the ePBT Hellas caps. I found a local machinist who will make brass copies of the internal aluminum cover and the internal foam sheets under it that are of the exact same shape as the add-on weights. I'm gonna try it out with both BSUN Raws and Kailh BCPs, as well as Green Fogs and SWK Ghost Dragons (these are excellent for stab keys BTW).

Wow ok you are right I just went to Micheals and bought this calligraphy set and exacto knife and wrote a letter just to larp for this one picture to you im glad your world view remained the same despite direct picture evidence

Those colors will clash very badly; Peacock being a rich teal hue very much on the green side of blue, and Hellas being a very middle-blue, desaturated and baby-bluish, leaning ever so slightly toward lavender, bordering on periwinkle.

Scratch that. The Akko Green Fogs and Strawberry Cheesecakes for stab keys are now my board's meta.

Can't know till I try. I also have half a dozen SW keycaps on the way, all in different colourways, so one of them is bound to work out.

Was gonna just post picrel as a joke but in all seriousness this is just proof that playing 1000 hours of The Sims is very important life experience

I see what you mean. Well, that's me fucked. I wish I could just get a Retrocast or Terror Below. Perhaps later.

Sometimes the mind sees what it chooses to see.

Also wtf is up with the Sonjas, the stems don't even hold the keycaps in place, nevermind the usual barely-there fit of the bottom housing against the hotswap socket. It's loose on both ends with the Sonjas!
>>
How about the Keykobo Poltergeist? It's like a toned down GMK Laser. Shouldn't look bad on teal.

This is an odd request but do you guys know of a keycap set that looks similar to the keys from the IBM 5100 keyboard? I want to build a mech keyboard that sort of looks like this vintage computer.

1000 hours of The Sims and a spoonful of "color theory" is all you need.
>>
>>106869559
Centered bottom legends are interesting. Never see that on MX keycaps.
>>
>>106868121
Hey retarded tranny your pen doesn't have an ink cartridge in it. Get the fuck out of here with that poser shit.

You need new keycaps. It's the only thing that can save the board at this point. I vote beige JC Studio keycaps
