Tell me about air purifying technology. If I'm on a low budget, should I get some cheap chinese shit or go for a DIY variant?
>>106863725HEPA filter tied to a box fan.
>>106863744Aren't HEPA filters too strong and they impede air flow? I heard Merv 13 is preferred when it comes to box fan purifiers.
>>106863725Can I use my pc to filter the air?
>>106863820How much you impede air flow is a factor of the size particles you want to catch.
>>106863833I guess I mostly care about dust and standard outdoor/indoor pollutants. What should I go for that?
>>106863725This is what I use and it REALLY helps with my hayfeverLV-Pur131
>>106863725Winix 5500-2
Best of the best and they actually work for odours:Iqair Heathpro plus, Airpura, Austin Air, AllerairBudget: Coway, Winix, Levoit, Philips, XiaomiAll Blueair purifiers use ionizers that can't be turned off. The only decent Levoit devices are the Vital 200s and Levoit Everestair.Purifiers that have the carbon come last might eject carbon particles into the air. Coway motors are reliable. Winix has problems with the bearings starting to make noise (google it). Coway filters sometimes like chemical warfare.Everything else: shilled brands, chinkshit, whitelabel crap
>>106863725None of the longest lived people did any of this meme stuff.
>>106865307air doctor >>106865319did they live in polluted cities? or rural italian villages?
>>106865307>Coway filters sometimes smell like chemical warfare.fixed. Also Austin Air is good as well. Also H13 vs H14 is just marketing for non-premium devices. The seals simply aren't good enough to get H14 level of filtration.
>>106865369crap. Meant Alen Air is also good
>>106863820HEPA seems to be the only option here in Europe...
>>106865319Do those long lived people have their window opening straight to the street and have to vacuum their apartment twice a day to not go to sleep constantly inhaling dust?
>>106863820>>106863833Air purifiers dump the cleaned air directly into the dirty air so HEPA is pointless. CADR is all that matters and you get better CADR with coarser filters. You only need HEPA if you have a clean-room setup with a clean side and a dirty side.
>>106867351Merv 13 doesn't filter 0.3 microns as good. More air exchanges doesn't make up for it.An E12 filter would probably be better than H13 for recirculating air
>>106863725The cheapest one is probably the IKEA air purifier. If you're expecting to get rid of dust etc. forget about it, it's not going to help, I've got a Xiaomi one. I'm actually considering getting an ozone generator to get rid of kitchen smells and cigarette smoke smell.
>>106863725Turn on any portable fan you have in your house.Place paper towels on the back (suction side). Cover up the suction side. Tape the paper towels so it sticks. Now you have an air filter. Cheapest and easiest DIY air filter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw7x47MePdgIt works. You can stack paper towels together to filter even finer material as well. Cause paper towel themselves stop larger particles but if you stack more, you can get more finer materials
You probably don't need it unless you let hairy animals that are incapable of wiping their own ass after defecating, or otherwise bathing themselves, into your home
>>106863820increase airflow by using 2" or 4" filters instead of 1"also use more filters

>>106870328Used the box setup for a long time and other than just destroying the motor on the fan the system works great
>>106863725I live innawoods and don't have allergies, so clean air is just an open window.
>>106870328But those are still Merv 13's anon...
