I will probably be forced to switch to it soon, and I've only heard bad things about it. Is it truly as bad as people say? How much of a headache is it really, and is it always possible to somehow get incompatible applications to work?

It just works (on Ubuntu)

why will you be forced to switch to the inferior option?

Fine for general desktop use on AMD, Intel, and Nvidia
Gaming is only stable on AMD

It is the most stupid API ever made.
> How much of a headache is it really?
Nothing is standardized. Compositor cross incompatible apps are impossible to get working.
If you want to develop Software targeting Wayland the headaches become even worse.

Since it is obvious sabotage, I'd recommend to never install it and never contribute anything to it.
It can't be fixed by design.

i kinda dont see a difference

forced vsync is actually quite a headache, and some compositors still can't handle selection paste/middle mouse scroll

No you wont

From having dealt with it for years and years:
Good for new features
Bad for nvidia
This remains true as of right the fuck now.

For "security reasons", but not out of my own volition. From everything I've read though, the security benefits are tiny in comparison to the problems it brings with it.

This is what it kind of feels like to me. Linux has finally gotten to the point where it's actually quite comfortable to use, but suddenly many people are forced to install something that just breaks a good chunk of Linux applications in countless ways. I've gotten very used to Xfce for example, and won't be able to use it anymore.

I used to use Wayland because I have two monitors with different refresh rates, now I use Xlibre with KWin-X11-Lite on Plasma and it's a slightly better experience for me on that than on Wayland.
I guess the only reason to still use Wayland is if you have multiple monitors with different DPI scaling, want HDR, or if you need to configure color profiles for your monitor since X still doesn't support those. Maybe it will with Xlibre one day, who knows.

Everything done by the CoC mafia seems to be designed to destroy FOSS.

I thought there was a variable you put in a config file to disable it.

dwm runs on X11.
