What happens if Windows 12 is an online only operating system with a monthly $9.99 subscription?

Then nobody would use it

Don't worry, for $19.99 a month you can get the Pro tier that let's you run it on your own hardware* instead of their servers.

The only reason why it flopped is because microshit didn't force it with constant update notifications like it did with w10 and w11. Now when they know how to force shit in people they can do anything.

I'm thinking that the vast majority of people have never "paid" for Windows. By that I mean that while they have bought computers before, they haven't paid a full, discrete line item that says "Windows" on it.
And so I don't think most people will want to pay for Windows, especially now that other OSes are free.
>>
>>106873994
Many companies would just pay it (probably at a bulk discount but still a lot) because a lot of corporate/industry software puts DRM on their shit to stop you from using it on "outdated" windows versions (not to mention anything that isn't windows).
Average users would probably complain, but they'd eventually succumb to the "PLESEE UPGRADE SAAAR" messages and popups.
Besides, they literally "upgraded" a lot of people's machines from 7 to 10 without their consent, if they really wanted to they could just do that.
Granted, I think the AI chip will be pushed a lot harder; those copilot+ PCs will probably become the standard for windows going forward. Recall will be on by default and can only be disabled by running a script that breaks the file manager, and you won't be able to turn off onedrive.
>>
>>106874346
Seeing how people bend the knee so easily to subscriptions and microtransactions, it doesn’t matter if it isn’t the vast majority, the whole point of doing something like this is to normalize it.
Just like a lot people don't know about Torrenting or pirating nowadays, they slowly but surely gain more customers that don't know any better.
>>
>>106873994

depends of the rules many would pay for computer display plus audio only star trek holodeck
>>
>>106874346
W12 could still be "free" for OEMs while being subscription to customers building their own system or upgrading from W11
>>
>>106873994
You will be able to pirate local LTSC version just fine.
>>106874010
>troonix

>>106874012
a fair share of us doesn't actually pay for Windows since years. Sure, Windows keeps getting progressively worse since 7 or so, but it works and we can get it for free, therefore alternatives are redundant.
>>
>>106874003
dude, it will sell, specially if devs continue to make their software for win and win only. you know people will fork the money over, and by the time the next iteration of win rolls around people will just use the success of the first subscription model as a reason to continue supporting it. "its fine, it just works. i can just use it, you are being dramatic" it is just gonna sell, because instead of banding togheter and making one linux distro that can just do anything microshit can, linux fags would rather keep working on a different distro, if nothing else, for a mather of recognition rather than functionality. like a fucking pride flag hoisted out of their asses.

It would be pants-on-head retarded which means microjeet might just do it. I'll just point and laugh from afar since I'm using fedora. It would be the unity pay-per-install fiasco all over again. even after they retracted it, people lost trust in unity altogether and they still haven't recovered.

This is what sucks about the modern Linux community, especially in the past few months. 20 years ago it was about Linux being its own ecosystem where everything can be modified and freely redistributed, to the point where many of those apps eventually became staples on Windows such as Blender and VLC. Now all anyone gives a shit about is if Linux can run their steamslop, it's more important to get some super accurate Windows compatibility layer happening to the point where you wonder why people don't just run Windows. At least when trannies were taking over the community things were still being kept open sores, but these days I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of the userbase has never compiled anything before so they won't even notice when most of the stuff they're using is nonfree binary blobs five years from now.

There's a reason there was still a massive userbase of XP users even after support ended, same happened with Windows 7 and same will happen with Windows 10.

If Windows thinks they can charge the home user a monthly subscriptoon for windows then they are insane, people will just stay on their old windows.

Windows 12 will probably be good at gaming again, with slightly less bullshit compared to Windows 11.
They will roll it out at $9.99/month first, and after backlash, over halve it to $3.99/month, so people think they are getting good deal even though it's still $240 in over 5 year period.
>>
>>106877280

same reason as japan: proprietary software. linux has nothing like .exe. you can't sell a disc with a linux program on it that would still work after 2 years. games, interactive shit, drivers, you name it

It would die because suddenly business users would have to actually pay for licenses instead of pirating it without getting caught like everyone else.
The cost monthly would only go up, every company knows this so they'd all just move to an easy LTS linux distro for office work to dodge suddenly having to pay thousands a month in extra fee for office seats.
It would be complete retardation, if MS weren't such a terminally incompetent company I'd feel bad for them being essentially forced to maintain the worlds most used OS for free but they're also one of the top 5 most valuable companies on the planet so no.
