I got this 2017 MacBook Pro reinstalled with Ventura.
What should install on it for daily use?
Do I really need to create an Apple ID account to download shit from the app store?
Is there a mac/apple thread here? I didn't see one.
Can I still dual boot this with Windows?
Is there a way to installer a newer OS? I can't believe this 7 year old machine wont let me install anything newer than Venture.
So far I hate Mac

Cool
Stats.app, iTerm2, Lulu if you care enough, everything else should just be the same shit you'd use on Windows or Linux

>What should install on it for daily use?
How should I know? What stuff do you use a computer for on a daily basis?
>Do I really need to create an Apple ID account to download shit from the app store?
Yes, but there's absolutely nothing worth getting on there, especially for x86 machines.
>Is there a mac/apple thread here? I didn't see one.
Welcome to the mac/apple thread
>Can I still dual boot this with Windows?
Yes.
>Is there a way to installer a newer OS? I can't believe this 7 year old machine wont let me install anything newer than Venture.
Yes. Look into OpenCore Legacy Patcher. The current version, Tahoe, is the end of the road for x86 support though.

Cool.

Congrats retard.

Yes, and people shill it as an alternative to the already nanny-OS of windows for some reason.

What's different is that one OS uses local accounts, and the other doesn't. You need an Apple ID to use Apple apps, but you need a Microsoft one just to get to the desktop.

You will hate it for months, possibly forever
Your tech-savy stubbornness will inevitably force you to fight it every step of the way rather than learning how it works from scratch

Mac has drivers? I thought it just worked.
Anyway I got it sorta working with an external keyboard but it's stuck logging in

what's the difference between a brain dead technology illiterate nigger that doesn't know what windows home is vs literally any other version of windows, and freetards?
there isn't any

It's quad core and has 16gb of ram

I'm reinstalling venture.
After I installed opencore is just let me upgrade to Tahoe. I didn't see other options.
I'll try again.

I'll probably end up putting windows 10ltsc on it or play around with win11.
I really can't stand macos

I would say, stick with Sequoia. After that's installed you should see OpenCore launch again to install drivers. There's also a system setting toggle that you need to enable. That app will prompt you. I think you may have missed that hence your problems or that OpenCore Legacy doesn't quite work well with MacOS 25 or w/e it's called.
>>106892494
Yes they have drivers and the OpenCore Legacy Patcher will install them after the OS is installed. I just don't think it works with Tahoe just yet.
>>
For software, just use the regular open source ones you would have used on Linux. So start there. Like LibreOffice and Transmission.

For browsers there's always Firefox or one of the derivatives. Brave isn't bad. Definitely install homebrew.

If you like Linux and their alt leftclick and alt right click window manipulation, mac homebrew has the easy move/resize utility. It's nice for when I'm using an external keyboard and mouse.

You have a nicer machine than I do.

use opencore legacy patcher

Linux Mint is the obvious choice. All you have to do is go to Mouse and Touchpad settings and enable Tap to Click. The keyboard shortcuts work out of the box.

lol

I have a MacBook Pro 2017 and Linux runs fine on it.
>>
>>106893275
Thanks. I'll try it again. So far it only allowed me to install Tahoe
>>
>>106893529
You're wrong, Apple acknowledged and covered repairs only for the 13" models that were affected, but 15" MBPs are affected by this problem too.

I have an old Office Pro 2016 account that I can install it on multiple machines. I'll stick with that.
I was never a fan of transmissions, I use qb.
Im having trouble getting fast fetch working, nor have i seen many threads on it here recently, is it still a thing?
>>
>>106898021
oh ffs microshits. i cant find a way to download Office 2016 anymore, its not available from my MS account, they only want me to upgrade to O365
>>
ok, i got Sequoia installed and its drivers.
this thing is kinda slow, it was slow back in Ventura.
for some reason google takes a while to load.
anyway, how can I install another OS on this machine?
do I need to do anything special for a Windows OS? i want to play around with different OSs on this thing
>>
>>106898948
its also still allowing me to install Tahoe, do you think it will work now after I got Sequoia working with all the drivers?
>>
>>106898948
Slow after install due to indexing. Should clear up in a few hours. Intel shit is fucking slow in general compared to m series tho.
>>
>>106898961
Tahoe is one of the worst releases from Mac in the last decade. Don't bother. Stay on Sequoia.
>>
>>106898976
>>106898986
thanks fren.
i'll stick around on this OS for a few days. i should really learn how to use macos
>>
>>106898999
No prob. Also install xcode cli tools and homebrew (package manager, brew.sh is the website). You can bootstrap pretty much anything you want from there.
>>
>>106891358
>Is there a mac/apple thread here? I didn't see one.
Yeah only 30% of the regular threads in the catalog are about shilling apple
